Chairpersonrsquos CornerWith more and more devotees returning to our temple and more set to return soon two things are abundantly clear
First we truly are better together Even with what remains ahead of us there is no conceivable way that we could be where we are without the commitment of everyone involved with our temple From our volunteers our priests staff and our Trustees there is no one who has not played a part in getting us to this point
Second this is no time to let our guard down As our devotees and staff continue to interact ndash at an appropriate distance we must redouble our efforts to be aware of our surroundings and to continue to ensure that the protocols established by SSVT through collaborative efforts with the Prince George County Department of Health are followed
That means mask wearing physical distancing and frequent hand washing It also means however that we must resist every urge to congregate at the temple or otherwise put ourselves in situations that may increase spread and either halt or worse yet reverse the progress we have made to return to the temple
The good news is that all our priests and staff have received their first vaccinations and will be fully vaccinated by mid-April I hope many of you have also received your vaccinations especially if you are over 65 It is my desire to increase temple attendance As the weather improves and hopefully the positive case numbers continue to fall it will be increasingly easy for all of us to take advantage of newfound opportunities that relaxed restraints allow Last week as an example Prince Georgersquos county has relaxed its restrictions for indoor gatherings We can now allow more than 50 people at a time into the temple Whatever plans we develop will go too slow for some but too fast for others We will continue to make decisions after consultation with our COVID-19 Adviso-ry Group doctors and with the health and safety of all as we chart a prudent reopening strategy
As you know SSVT has suffered tremendous loss of revenue last year I would like to take this opportunity to inform the con-gregation that for 2021 for those who need to take RMD from your IRA you can directly transfer it to SSVT without incurring any tax liability This is true even if you do not itemize and take standard deduction in your federal tax return Please consult your tax advisor
Please consider donating to support our temple Your tax-de-ductible contribution of any amount will help our priests and staff support in-progress infrastructure projects including HVAC replacement roof and maintenance improvements and the con-struction of the Sai Aradhana Center and Meditation Hall Please click here to donate
May the Gods and Goddesses of Sri Siva Vishnu Temple always bless you your family and your friends with peace and good health
If at any time I can be of assistance please feel free to contact me via email at chairpersonssvtorg or by phone at (919) 381-7606
Thank you
