SUMMARY OF CONTRACT LOG Total Project Budget: $1,453,697 Original Const. Contract: $1,037,500 Change Orders to Date: 0 Total Current Contract: $1,037,500

Project’s Status: Bales Construction began demolition work over Spring Break in an effort to expose the corridor original ceiling and structure to determine wall penetrations into each of the classrooms. The contractor has submitted shop drawings to receive consultant’s approval and order HVAC equipment in advance to have the product delivered by June 1st. The electrical subcontractor is planning to start the new underground electrical service from

Sunshine Street to the building by mid-April which allows them to set the new transformers, generator, and electrical panels and run power to the new chiller location. Because of the possible dust generated by wall penetrations and exposing the roof structure in the corridors will prevent anymore interior work until summer break. Project Challenges:

Coordination with site principal will be top priority. Work performed within the facility from February 1st to June 1st will be restricted to

those times when classes are not in session and evenings. The contractor will be responsible for daily clean-up and maintaining the building condition in work zones.

Current plan is to have the new electrical service and electrical distributions completed by June 1st so the contractor can make the switch over and start setting the new HVAC equipment the first day of summer break.

The short summer will challenge the contractor. Our goal is to have air conditioning in the classrooms, offices and APR by August 15, 2012.

The FEMA building pad construction has been delayed due to relocating the existing 6” sewer and 8” roof drain pipes outside the new building footprint. This work is completed and the building pad is near completion to allow digging for the cafeteria/FEMA building footings. diligently working to rough in the new electrical service, major switch gear panels and run feeder conduits throughout the building in preparation of the summer switch over. The contractor has submitted shop drawings to receive consultant’s approval and order HVAC and electrical equipment in advance to have the product delivered by June 1st. Project Challenges:

The weather will be the project’s biggest obstacle to the contractor being able to accomplish much outdoors.

A complete month has been lost due to city’s requested change in the way the consultant’s connected new structure’s to the existing structure.

Completing the FEMA footings in time to maintain Prestress Concrete Panels delivery date and construction schedule.

To accommodate the interior construction SPS needs to relocate the summer site staff, principals and counselor by May 25th so the contractor can begin the tunnel abatement.

To maintain the construction schedule the tunnel abatement must start May 24th and be completed by June 25th to allow enough time for the plumber to reinstall the new heating and domestic water lines before start of 2012-2013 school year.

The contractor is progressing with the lower level classrooms demolition work as part of the new kitchen and serving area connected to the cafeteria/FEMA structure.

Original Const. Contract: $2,766,849 Change Orders to Date: 0 Total Current Contract: $2,766,849 Project Status: Project had a favorable bid and the School District awarded the contract to Larry Snyder & Company. Larry Snyder & Co. developed a project schedule and a schedule of values which was approved by the consultants. Despite rain delays, the detention basin, concrete swale and the north parking lot have been completed. The traffic has been rerouted to the north side of the building to allow for work to begin on the south side of the existing facility.

Page 25: SPRINGFIELD PUBLIC SCHOOLS · 1/12/2005  · General Contractor: Bales Construction PROJECT SCHEDULE Award Contract: January, 2012 Projected Start Date: February, 2012 Major Installation

The contractor has noted (12) lost work days for rain and associated with testing and removal of unsuitable soils. We have not received a formal request for time extension nor supporting documentation to approve lost work days. We will work with the contractor to make up any lost days to meet the critical path schedule. Currently, there are two approved proposals for the project which will be incorporated into a change order. One is for a generator and the other was to add additional concrete paving. The total of the two change proposals is $8,894.00. Project Challenges: 1. The weather to date has been an obstacle for the contractor thus far. 2. The tightness of the construction site for staging construction material and

accommodating for the parking needs of SPS staff and contractor’s vehicles. 3. The proximity of the housing around the site is also generating some complaints from

the neighboring occupants.

“Get out of the way” might be a common phrase at the Westport K-8 project. We have major activity in much of both the school and park areas of this project’s scope, within the northwest wing, being redeveloped into part of the new middle school footprint, the current APR stage with new detailing on what will become the new “WOW” entrance to the new library is underway, and site work is occurring everywhere, beginning with all the imported fill to prepare for the 3 main “zones” of the new building “pads”. The underground storm, sewer, and electrical service runs, either being re-routed or newly introduced at the south, southwest, east, and north areas of this project’s boundaries has the big equipment & trucks all over the project site. Masonry, steel framing, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work occurs throughout what the school calls the Red Wing. Both the CMU and the steel interior framing is beginning to shape and define some of the individual middle school classrooms, SPED rooms, and technology teaching spaces. We are pleased that the first of the Gym/FEMA safe room foundation segment has been placed, noting the large volume of concrete and steel reinforcing required in the design.
