Josephine Baker, international star of sensational, exotic cabarets was the very zeitgeist of the Deco

years. Most famously, She was joined by a cheetah, the idea was

that the cheetah would complement perfectly Bakers image; half exotic, untamed

creature; half elegant beauty and sophistication.

The morals, fashions and mood of the 1920s was a drastic departure from those of the two preceding decades. It was the era of the first you rebellion and this was reflected in less restricting clothing, ellusive behaviour and frivilous spending.

The predicted prosperous economic state of Britain for 2013 mirrors the early 1920s; an extravagant way of living paired with a sophisticated silhouette creates a rebellious & fantasy inspired trend.

Influence: Art Deco

The Art Deco movement in the 1920s was characterized by geometric shapes, parallel lines, concentric circles, step patterns, stylized flowers and other abstract motifs. Africa provided one of the richest sources of exotic imagery for Art Deco designers.

Art Deco jewellery featured futuristic material such as bakelite, chrome, and aluminum Dynamic colour combinations and the use of crystal, marcasite, rhinestone and diamonds were popular.
