New Orleans city tour of Garden District, the Esplanade, the French Market, Treme, the Metairie Cemetery and more! • Cafe Du Monde - NOLA tradition with tasty beignet & cafe au lait. Check-in to boutique hotel near the French Quarter for two- night stay. Free evening to stroll, try your luck at Harrah’s Casino, or just simply relax!(BR) Enjoy breakfast, then depart for the National WWII Museum. Self-guided museum tour of artifacts and interactive experiences that tell the story of the war that changed the world. See Beyond All Boundaries, a 4D multisensory film narrated by Tom Hanks. In the afternoon, we’ll enjoy the New Orleans School of Cooking with an entertaining chef preparing a classic Cajun/Creole meal, while learning about the history of NOLA cuisine. Spend the rest of the day at leisure: shopping, dining, or sipping a Hurricane. (B,L) Breakfast, then head to Cajun Country for an adventure through the swamps and bayous with “Cajun Man,” an experienced alligator hunter who was born and raised on the bayous. Learn about gators, see wildlife, migratory birds and even bald eagles with their nests! Enjoy lunch en route to Avery Island, where the McIlhenny family has built the world famous Tabasco brand pepper sauce. See how the sauce is made, processed and bottled. Later, check in to our Lafayette hotel for two nights and enjoy a free evening. (B,L) After breakfast, tour Lafayette before visiting Vermilionville, a 23-acre Cajun-Creole settlement reconstructed on the banks of the Bayou Vermilion. Enjoy a self-guided tour before an included lunch. Visit Martin Accordions, who’ve been crafting custom accordions for musicians around the world for 30+ years! Learn about the history of Cajun music and enjoy a private demonstration. Next, on to Kelly’s Landing, where Mr. Kelly will give us a lesson on rice and crawfish farming and see antique farm equipment. He & wife Lynn will make us a home-cooked crawfish meal. (B,L,D) Breakfast at our hotel prior to checking out. Depart for Houmas House Plantation & Gardens. Considered the “Crown Jewel” of Louisiana’s River Road, the plantation tells the story of the wealthy Sugar Barons of the 19th-Century. It was known as “The Sugar Palace” because at its peak, the plantation produced a monumental 20 million pounds of sugar each year. Take a guided tour of the house and explore the lush 38-acres of gardens with statuary, ponds & fountains. Enjoy lunch here before heading to New Orleans airport for our flight home.
