Sister to Sister Newsletter Spring 2015 ‘s Ultimaat SISTER TO SISTER Love’s Ultimate Sacrifice By Beth Widener I’ve seen this quote recently on everything from hats and t-shirts to posters. This quote is simple and goes like this: 1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given. Short, sweet, simple, and powerful…. I love it! Jesus’ sacrifice was anything but simple, though. Just the sheer amount of stress He was under caused Him to sweat blood. He could have saved Himself, that’s for certain, but He was totally committed to loving us and forgiving us, even though we were yet to be born. As a mother, I can somewhat imagine the sheer amount of love that He had for us, and His willingness to do this, because there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do to protect my child. He loved us as His children and wanted to give us a chance at eternal life, so He went through more pain and agony than we can possibly imagine and He did it all for us. He was blameless but he took our sin and shame as his own and sacrificed himself for us! So as we approach Easter, let’s remember to be thankful for love’s ultimate sacrifice and the gift of life that it gives us all. Thank you, Lord Jesus, thank you! Love’s Ultimate Sacrifice By Beth Widener

I’ve seen this quote recently on everything from hats

and t-shirts to posters. This quote is simple and goes

like this: 1 cross + 3 nails = 4 given. Short, sweet,

simple, and powerful…. I love it! Jesus’ sacrifice was

anything but simple, though. Just the sheer amount of

stress He was under caused Him to sweat blood. He

could have saved Himself, that’s for certain, but He was

totally committed to loving us and forgiving us, even

though we were yet to be born.

As a mother, I can somewhat imagine the sheer amount of love that He had for us, and His

willingness to do this, because there isn’t anything I wouldn’t do to protect my child. He

loved us as His children and wanted to give us a chance at eternal life, so He went through

more pain and agony than we can possibly imagine – and He did it all for us. He was

blameless but he took our sin and shame as his own and sacrificed himself for us! So as we

approach Easter, let’s remember to be thankful for love’s ultimate sacrifice and the gift of life

After being asked to write this, I felt blank, so I put out an APB to my five children. When stories started coming in, I wasn’t sure whether to withhold my name or theirs. Keep in mind I’m trying to share only appropriate stories. It may not have been so funny at the time, but quite laughable later. These anecdotes may seem to you as a “guess you had to be there” story, but here goes. A real Cosby moment happened when Charles and I Thoughtful as he is, Tommy, in middle school at the time, walked in and said, “I got the other room done.” What?!? He had taken off the top layer of a recently papered room. He’s walking proof we didn’t kill him. Then there was the time Keith was dating two girls at the same time. Who knew when we came home, both of them would be sitting in the bed of his pick-up truck waiting for him. He said, “Oh no!” I asked if we were stripping wallpaper in the girls’ bedroom. I asked if we should keep driving. He decided to face the music. Have you ever left a child? It doesn’t make you a bad person. The first time we took Becca to church as a newborn, we forgot to stop by Tommy’s classroom. We still weren’t used to counting five children. The second time, Deborah Everley was waiting in the church parking lot holding Becca’s hand. She knew we’d be back. How could I not mention backing down our driveway only to sideswipe Carter’s new car, which he was buying himself. When we woke him up to see the damage, he said, “Call the police.” On his mom?? The truth finally has come out about exactly how Becca’s arm was broken. You’d have to see that demonstrated. Right, Tommy? One of the funniest stories about Alice recently happened. There was no mothering involved, except it was in my living room. She was attempting to show Becca how her habit of sitting a certain way has probably caused her chronic back pain. Next thing I know, Alice is lying face down on the floor with a carpet burn on her nose. Sorry, but we all laughed at her “grace.” No wonder her back hurts. Wish I could have seen the whole fall. Young moms, go ahead and laugh at or with your children. You will later anyway. Even the “big” problems don’t usually mean “the end of the world.” Before you know it, they will be telling you about the escapades of their children - Like smearing Vaseline all over herself or how a botched home haircut resulted in their three year old’s shaved head. Oh, the joys of motherhood! -Carole Cole

Memorable Moments with Mom

“She is clothed with strength and dignity;

she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom,

and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household

and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:

Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.”

Proverbs 31:25-29
