LEARN TO SWIM AT THE Y.For many, the YMCA was where one learned how to swim as a child and for good reason. Since 1885, the Y has been a pioneer in swimming education. Literally millions of people have learned to swim through the YMCA's perfected program. In Y Swim Lessons participants learn and practice new swimming skills and feel a sense of achievement from mastering something new that they can enjoy the rest of their lives.

Parent Child Shrimp, Kipper and Inia Lessons are for children under the age of three and their parents. The primary objective of the class is to get the child acclimated to a water based environment. The class will allow the child to have fun in the water while the instructor guides the adult in how to teach the child aquatic skills. Swim diapers must be worn under a bathing suit.

Parent Child Perch For children 19-36 months. This class allows the child and parent to continue developing the skills the y began in the SKI portion of the program while becoming more independent. Swim diapers must be worn under bathing suit.

Pike with Parent For children that are ready to age progress to the independent classes but might not be ready to let go of parents. The students will learn basic Pike skills while being encouraged to be independent in the class environment.

Level 1: Pike The first level of lessons is for beginning swimmers. Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions. Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides. They will also be taught kicking skills and putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Eel Swimmers will learn to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 1 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 20 seconds with an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on their front, back and side for 10 yards with an IFD, and 5 feet without.

Level 3: Ray In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to jump in without assistance, float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmers should also paddle on front, back and side for 25 yards with an IFD and 15 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute. Prerequisites: To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float 30 seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without. Swimmers also need to be able to front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing 25 yards with an IFD, and 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 fee without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yards with an IFD and 20 feet without.

Level 1: POLLIWOG This is the beginning level for school age children and is appropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction. Children will learn the basic paddle stroke on their front, back and sides, kicking skills and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2: GUPPY In this class swimmers will learn to front and back float 1-minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive.

Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to front and back float for 30 seconds with or without an IFD; paddle 25 yards on their front, back and side with an IFD, and 15 feet without an IFD; jump in without assistance; be comfortable in deep water.

Level 4: FISH In this class swimmers will learn to tread water for 3-minutes; swim 50 yards front crawl; swim 50 yards breaststroke with legal kick and arm pulls; swim 50 yards backstroke; swim 50 yards elementary backstroke with a glide; swim 50 yards sidestroke with a scissors kick; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water 1 minute.

Level 5: Flying Fish In this class swimmers will learn to do a flip turn; swim 100 years from crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 years backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to tread water for 3 - minutes; swim 50 yards front crawl; swim 50 yards breaststroke with legal kick and arm pulls; swim 50 yards backstroke; swim 50 yards elementary backstroke with a glide; swim 50 yards sidestroke with a scissors kick; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Level 6: SHARK In this class swimmers will learn to take their own heart rate; learn about open water and backyard pool safety; swim 100 yards from crawl with flip turns; swim 100 yards breaststroke with pull-out; swim 50 yards inverted breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke with dolphin kick and pullout; swim 50 yards over arm side stroke; swim 25 yards butterfly with streamline; and swim 200 yards individual medley.

Prerequisite: To enter this level, children should be able to do a flip turn; swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yards breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementary backstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yards lifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Adult Water Fitness Lap pool 3'to 10' Must be able to swim 25 yards and tread water. This class is medium intensity. Moves from shallow to deep.

Arthritis Foundation Family Pool - 4'-4'6" No swimming skills required. Low intensity class - good for injury recovery. Arthritis Foundation Certified Program.

Aqua Zumba Lap Pool 3'-4'6" Shallow end of pool. This class is choreographed and set to music. No swimming skills required. Medium to High intensity.

Cardio Water Fitness Family pool. This class is designed for a quick cardio session to get you moving and accustomed to water fitness. Great for those just finishing the arthritis class and looking for a little bit more activity. This class is for members only.

Deep Water Fitness Lap Pool 10' Must be able to swim 25 yards and tread water to attend.

Evening Water Fitness Family Pool 4'-4'6" No swimming skills required. You pick your intensity. Good for beginners to advanced.

Fluid Running is a deep water running class that provides all the benefits of running on land and more without any impact. The benefits include burning up to 40% more calories than running on land. Building muscular strength and endurance, working legs, core and arms. There is zero impact thus runners can participate even with many injuries. You don’t have to be a runner or an athlete to participate. Floatation belts are provided.

Morning Water Fitness Lap pool 3' to 10' Must be able to swim 25 yards and tread water to attend. Low to medium intensity. Moves from shallow to deep.

Prenatal /Postpartum Family Pool 4'-4'6" Medium Intensity Start as soon as find out your expecting and continue after baby is born.

Swim TeamBuild self-confidence and self-esteem with participation in a team sport while building individual skills and having fun.

With YMCA Swimming and ASCA-certified coaches always on the pool deck, swimmers will receive the best and most innovative methods of instruction and training during their season. Each coach is specialized in the age group and is educated and trained to handle each group for maximum effectiveness.

Stroke Clinic Atlantic/Pacific Level Atlantic group Stroke Clinic: This is a 4 week stroke technique intense class. Swimmers will spend one week on each competitive stroke. Swimmers need to be able to legally swim all 4 competitive strokes and complete test sets to be in this group.

Stroke Clinic Turquoise Turquoise Marlins Stroke Clinic: This is a 4 week stroke technique intense class. Swimmers will spend one week on each competitive stroke. This group is for all swimmers from beginner to intermediate, ages 5 to 13. Swimmers may not be quite ready to compete but want to be part of the team and work on improving their strokes. Swimmers must be able to complete two lengths of freestyle and two lengths of backstroke. Meets are not required but home meets are recommended. Swimmers practice 2 days a week 1 hour each practice. Swimmers should be able to complete 50 yards freestyle and 50 yards backstroke without stopping to be part of this group.

AMERICAN RED CROSS CERTIFICATIONS AT THE Y.Interested in a great summer job or challenging career as a professional lifeguard? Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you'll learn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED and other skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard.

Lifeguard Certification There is a $50.00 non-refundable deposit on all lifeguard programs once you have signed up. All participants must be able to swim 300 continuous yards of front crawl and breaststroke. Participants must also be able to swim to a depth of 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10 lb brick then swim with it kicking on their backs 20 yards. Lastly, participants must be able to tread water for 2 min without using hands. Failure to pass the pre-requisite class means you will be refunded minus the $50.00 deposit or credited the full amount towards another future class. Failure to pass the class will result in no refund. Once participants pass they will be certified in American Red Cross CPR, First Aid and Life guarding for 2 years.

The training prepares instructor candidates by developing their understanding of how to use the course materials and methods, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants’ progress. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive authorization to teach the above material for two (2) calendar years. Must have taken a minimum of four sessions of Tiny Tykes.

Gymnastics Tiny Tykes (Age 3-4) An introductory class for preschool-age children ready to attend class without a parent or caregiver. Children will develop coordination, body awareness and gross motorskills while working on listening skills, following directions and social skills. Children will use all gymnastics equipment. Curriculum is progressive with a different gymnastics position and concentration each week.

YOUTH

Gymnastics All Boys Our boys gymnastics program focuses on strength development, body positions, and gymnastics skills on all of the boys apparatus. We also work on listening skills and socialization within the group setting. Boys will be divided by age and skill level.

Gymnastics Level 1 (Age 6-16) Little or no experience in gymnastics. Girls will learn body positions, handstands, cartwheels, forward and backward rolls, and basics on the apparatus.

Gymnastics Level 2 (Age 6-16) Should have had some instruction in gymnastics and be able to pass a Level 1 evaluation. Start learning backbends, kickovers, pullovers on bars, and basic vault and beam skills.

Gymnastics Level 3 (Age 6-16) Must be able to pass Level 2 evaluation. Girls will begin learning walkovers, handsprings, skills on the high bar, more advanced vault skills and start taking their floor skills to the beam.

Cheer Tumbling This class is for the cheerleader who wants to learn intermediate to advanced tumbling skills. Participants must have a minimum of intermediate skill level to participate.

Gymnastics Young Beginner (Age 5-6) Children will learn all gymnastics events in levels 1 and/or 2, in a group of their peers.

Basketball Fundamentals Basketball Fundamentals is a great introductory class for youngsters who may not have previously had experience playing basketball. Rock Wall Ascenders Climb This course is set up for wall crawlers just starting out and striving to get their climbing career in motion. We will provide the complete machinery and initiative to ensure that the students will have a positive and astonishing experience. Preschool Spring Break Camp (ages 3-5) Come join us for fun-filled half day spring break camp March 23-27. Camp runs from 9:30am-1pm. M-F, M/W/F or T/Th options available. Each day will have a different theme. Activities will include arts & crafts, theme related activities, games in the gym/outside, etc. Please bring a sack lunch. Before School Care Buehler offers before care for half day preschool on a limited basis. Drop off as early as 7:00 am and teachers will transfer your child to their preschool class.

Child Care Buehler YMCA

Kids Days Out Our Kids Day Out Program, designed for children in grades K-6, offers a full day of entertainment including field trips, games, arts and crafts, and activities in areas of our YMCA facility like our pool, gym, and Family Adventure Center. Care is provided from 7am to 6pm. Remember to bring a lunch, drink or water bottle, snack, swimming suit, and towel each day.

Before School Care We operate a DCFS-licensed before-school care program throughout the school year. Care is provided beginning at 6:45am until students are transported from the YMCA to school. Breakfast is provided daily. Activities include character development, classroom games and activities, and arts and crafts.

After School Care We operate a DCFS-licensed after-school care program throughout the school year. Students are transported from school to the YMCA and provided care until 6pm. A snack is provided daily. Activities include homework support, character development, games and fitness activities, arts and crafts, swimming, and much more.

Kindergarten Counts Children attending Kindergarten at District 15 schools including Hunting Ridge, Jane Addams, Lake Louise, Lincoln, Marion Jordan, Paddock, Pleasant Hill, Sanborn, Virginia Lake, Whiteley, and Winston Campus can extend their school day to include the Kindergarten Counts Program at Buehler YMCA which provides educational and enrichment activities. Kindergarten Counts is a DCFS-licensed program taught by early childhood educators with a curriculum based on Illinois Common Core Learning Standards and includes Jolly Phonics and Guided Reading.

Kindergarten After School Care We operate a DCFS-licensed after-school care program throughout the school year. Students enrolled in our PM Kindergarten Counts program can extend care to 6pm through enrollment in Kindergarten Link. Activities include character development, games and fitness activities, arts and crafts, swimming, and much more. Additionally, staff will transfer children to and from other YMCA programs that operate during Link Program times.

Lunch And Fun (Age 3-4.5yrs) Is your child ready for a longer preschool day but not quite ready for an enrichment class? Here's your solution. Lunch & Fun is a program designed for those students currently in our preschool program that need/want an extended day but aren't quite old enough for an enrichment class. This program includes lunch, time in our F.A.C., gym or playground, special activities (science, art, reading, math) and time to socialize. Registration is for every Friday of the session. Lunch Bunch (Age 3-5yrs) Learn the proper etiquette of eating at a table; including manners and cleaning up after one's self. When your child finishes lunch they may choose a center to rotate through. Our staff will transfer your child to their enrichment class at no extra cost! Please alert staff to any food allergies or restrictions. This class is for currently enrolled preschool students. Registration is for every Friday of the session. Lunch bunch does not meet when preschool is not in session. *Price is per day/per session.

Messy Monsters (Ages 18 mos-2.5yrs) This is a fun class where your toddler and you will join in messy, fun, creative activities. The instructor will lead all sorts of sensory experiences with paint, playdoh, goo, bubbles, shaving cream, etc. Parents are encouraged to stay and get messy with their toddler. Parents of children not potty trained may not leave the building.

Music Makers (Age 18mos-3yrs) Does your little one love to wiggle and move whenever music comes on? Do they love to play with musical instruments but the noise drives you insane? We have the perfect class! Your little one will be dancing, singing, and creating their own musical sound. Parents are welcome to stay but it's not necessary. If a child is not fully potty trained, a parent/guardian must remain on call in the building. Minimum/Maximum: 5/10 (Downstairs Mat Room)

Pee Wee Energy Plus (Age 2-3.5yrs) It's gym time! A great introduction to the basics: getting in a circle, lining up, following the leader and taking turns. Class includes circle time,age-appropriate games and activities, and the use of basic equipment. Level 1 & 2 preschool participants can be transferred from preschool to this class.

Peek-A-Boo Preschool (Ages 2-3yrs) Your mini preschooler will experience a sneek peek of what a day would be in preschool. This developmental environment will include circle time, arts and crafts, music, snack, and opportunities to socialize through play.

Preschool Spanish (Age 3-5yrs) The best time to learn a second language is as a child. Your child will learn the Spanish language through fun, exciting and engaging activities! Your child will be fully immersed in a Spanish language room and will learn through real-life situation games, music, building vocabulary, and developing listening skills through read-alouds, and arts and crafts. Minimum/Maximum: 5/10. (Downstairs Craft Room)

Rhythm And Movement (Age 18mos-2.5yrs) Get your wiggles out as we make music, sing songs, dance, and get our bodies grooving to the beat. Parent attendance is optional. Parent must remain in the building if child is not potty trained.

Science Discovery (Age 4-6yrs) Your child loves to discover because kids are natural-born scientists. Let’s build the curiosity for the world they live in with this experimentation class. Children will use all their senses to learn in this hands-on class.

Tot Time (Age 2-3.5yrs) Through sing-a-longs with puppets, group games, parachutes, and time to play on the equipment your child will continue to develop their gross motor skills which are vital for physical development. Preschool children in Level 1 or 2 may be transferred to this class from their preschool class.

Wildlife Safari (Ages 4-6yrs) Come join us while we discover the wonderful world of animals. We will investigate animals from every continent and learn fun facts. Students will make a animal safari passport that will take them around the animal world.

Gym And Swim This unique program will give a sample of a gymnastics class and a swim class all in 1 hour. Gymnastics begins at 2pm and children MUST wear their swim wear to gymnastics class. The instructors are not allowed to change their clothes. The gymnastics staff will take them to the pool and parents will pick up after swim at 3pm. Participants must sign up for both gym and swim.

Gymnastics Tyke Fit Introduce your child to exercise and a healthy lifestyle early with this gymnastics based program. We will teach how to exercise your heart, how to strengthen and stretch your muscles, and basic good nutrition.

Born To Move Dynamic games, Movement and Music. In this 30 class, teachers show participants how to do moves from dance, martial arts and yoga. This class includes great music and games to keep things interesting while developing fitness skills. Youth Tabata The Tabata workout lasts only four minutes, but is one of the longest four minutes you'll encounter. The structure of the program is; workout hard for 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds, and complete 4-8 rounds
