of the most common initial beliefs being that it is about the events of 9/11. In the liner notes, the song is dated September 10, and it is track 11 on the album.

However, ______________ has confirmed to the public that the song was written as a memorial anthem about his father, a jazz musician and minor league baseball catcher, who died of esophageal cancer when _______ was only ten years old.

In this ballad, ________ revisits his painful childhood and thinks about the day he lost his innocence when his father died.

Some Freddie "Saddam" Maake claims to have invented it by adapting an aluminium version from a bicycle horn after removing the black rubber to blow with his mouth. He later found it to be too short and joined a pipe to make it longer. What am I talking about?

• This began in 1939 with the birth of a new book company called MLJ Magazines - named after its three partners and founders, Maurice Coyne (M), Louis Silberkleit (L) and John Goldwater (J). The company’s first title was called Blue Ribbon, which was followed by Top Notch and then, in January 1940, Pep. While MLJ produced their own brand of superheroes to compete with the likes of Superman, Batman Wonder Woman etc, its founders realized that in order to entertain younger readers and in particular, female readers, they needed to head in an entirely different direction. John Goldwater wanted to create a character that was grounded in reality and prove that an ordinary person could be just as popular. What did it lead to?

• When American pioneers pushed west of the Allegheny Mountains following the American Revolution, the first counties they founded covered vast regions. One of these original, huge counties was X, established in 1785 and named after the French royal family. While this vast county was being carved into many smaller ones, early in the 19th century, many people continued to call the region Old X. Located within Old X was the principal Ohio River port from which whiskey and other products were shipped. “X" was stenciled on the barrels to indicate their port of origin. X whiskey was different because it was the first corn whiskey most people had ever tasted. In time, X became the name for any corn-based whiskey.

38• Shakespeare used the word 'X' to refer to a theater and in the 17th century

there was theater in London with that name. From Henry V :

Can this 'X' hold The vastie fields of France? Or may we cramme Within this Woodden O, the very Caskes That did affright the Ayre at Agincourt?

In the 18th century, 'X' entered naval jargon, denoting the junior officer quarters on the lowest, or orlop, deck of a ship that doubled for the surgeon’s hospital during battle. Presumably, this was because the midshipmen, like roosters, would get into fights with one another. From William Falconer’s 1769 An Universal Dictionary of the Marine:'X' of a ship of war, the apartments of the surgeon and his mates, being the place where the wounded men are dressed. In 1914, the term was applied to airplanes. So the literal sense gave way to a naval metaphor

• It is alternatively called 'Patience'. There is an old tradition in the German or Scandinavian countries to use "patience" as a guide to what the near future has to offer, a kind of "luck" meter. This belief assumes that a person’s "luck" will vary from time to time and important matters should not be initiated or conducted when the cards are not favourable. If there are no winnings in the game for a number of tries it spells caution in what you do. If a win at the first try times are good and “luck” smiles at you, thus the immediate future can be used for important decisions. Timing the game is a further indicator of the strength of the outcome. What am I talking about?
