Master of Public Health
• 42 credits – 16 to 24 months to complete (on average)• For students from all backgrounds wanting a professional-
oriented degree to work in public health• Two formats: Traditional and DL (on campus once/month)• Two dual degree options: Nursing and Dentistry• 12-week practicum• Over 90% of graduates have been able to find a job or
were already employed 6 months after graduation

Master of Health Science
• 30 credits – 12 to 24 months to complete (on average)• For health professionals (mainly doctors) looking for
advanced clinical research experience• Comprehensive exam• Major essay• Graduates can work as part of a research team, conduct
their own research, or complement their existing practice via integration of research

MSc in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene
• 42 credits – 20 to 30 months to complete (on average)• For students looking to gain the skills to improve the health
and safety of community and work environments• Two options (both are paid!):
1. Project (co-op) based2. Thesis based
• Alumni for OEH have all been very successful in obtaining jobs after graduation

• 30 credits – 24 to 28 months to complete (on average)• Students looking to conduct intensive research• Thesis-based• Opportunity to present research proposal to the Thesis
Screening Panel (TSP)• Many graduates go on to pursue PhDs, and graduates have
successfully found employment as research assistants, epidemiologists, managers, or consultants.

Master in Health Administration
• 42 credits –26 months to complete • For mid-career professionals to move towards leadership
positions within health care management• 24 courses plus independent research project• Cohort-based, executive style – all courses meet every 3-4
weeks at UBC Robson Square • Over 350 MHA graduates now work in diverse roles around
the world

PhD in Population and Public Health
• 16.5 credits – 5 to 7 years to complete (on average)• For students looking to advance education in public health• Comprehensive Exam, Thesis Screening Panel (TSP)
Presentation, & Doctoral Dissertation with Final Oral Exam• Our PhD graduates continue to find success in teaching
and research, obtaining positions in Canada and internationally as faculty, researchers, and post-doctoral fellows.

Admissions Criteria for All Programs
• Degree equivalent to UBC 4-year Bachelor’s• Equivalent to 4 years of study with B+ average
• Canadian and US institutions, all 3rd and 4th year-level coursework• International institutions, all courses
• Three reference letters• Letter of intent• Curriculum vitae (CV)• English proficiency (TOEFL [min. 100], IELTS [min. 7.0])

Additional Admission Criteria• Demonstration of proficiency in quantitative skills
• Undergraduate statistics or calculus course with B+ or higher• GRE (153 verbal/153 quantitative)• MSc, MPH, MHSc, MHA, PhD and recommended for MSc OEH• http://tiny.cc/SPPHquantitative

MPH Dual Degree Programs
• MPH and Master of Science in Nursing• Must be registered as a nurse with a bachelor’s degree• Current member of College of Registered Nurses of BC or
eligible to apply
• MPH and Diploma in Dental Public Health• Must hold a DMD or its equivalent from a recognized university,
a degree in dental hygiene, or a dental hygiene diploma from an accredited program with a baccalaureate degree or a dental hygiene degree

Additional Admission Criteria (Residency)
• Qualified physician completing two years of accredited post-graduate training and has full license to practice medicine (or eligible for full license) from the BC College of Physicians and Surgeons
• Must be Canadian citizen or PR at time of application• Not enrolled in a residency training program• Dean’s letter• LMCC and any other exam transcripts
