I also saw a red snapper with a crab in its mouth.” Even though he caught a lot of fish, he paid a price — he returned to shore with a fair share of bruises from the fights the fish put up. At the end of the day, though, it was worth it and he will be back out today for another day of fishing, he said. Jill Hayes from Dripping Springs, on the other hand, is a regular at the Fishin’ Fiesta and landed the second spot so far in the adult inshore gafftop, catch- ing a 4.28-pounder. She sits right behind Eric Prokisch, who reeled in a 4.38-pound catch. Hayes fished both Wednesday and Thursday and liked how the water fared better on day two than day one. “I’ve been fishing the Fiesta since the 1990s,” Hayes said. “The water was very nice today, prettier than yesterday, which was real choppy and windy. Today was just a nice day.” The weigh station opens back up at 10 a.m. today for all fishers and closes at 9 p.m. The inshore mini tournament will consist of trout stringers and the offshore mini tournament consists of kingfish.
