PRINCIPAL’S REPORT—WEEK 9 Last week was our first week of our new newsletter format.
We have had positive feedback about the new layout and I
encourage parents and community members to let us know
what they think about the layout and with any other
suggestions they may have.
This week we are celebrating NAIDOC Week at Armidale
City Public School. Students and staff have been taking
part in a variety of activities and I would like to make
particular mention of our students who performed dances,
speeches and songs at the NAIDOC Assembly yesterday –
you are all highly talented – thank you, for sharing your
special gifts with us. Thank you, also to the students and
Bruce Roberts from the Armidale High School Clontarf
group, to Will Green from Armidale Police, to Natalie
Nugent from NECOM and Brad Widders from Armidale
City Public School for your efforts in supporting and
organising our students for the NAIDOC Assembly.
Student reports are being sent home this week. I would
like to thank teaching staff for the time and effort they
have put in to complete the Semester One reports. Any
parent wishing to discuss their child’s report should contact
their child’s teacher to make an appropriate time.
On Wednesday and Thursday this week we will have five
students from our school participate in the e-GATS
program camp at Thalgarrah Environmental Education
Centre. Olive Tutt, Juliet Knuckey, Beth Do, Roanan
Kelsall and Dougie Close will all spend time with Mrs
Russell and other teachers at Thalgarrah working on a
variety of projects and we know they will be participating in
quality learning experiences with students from throughout
the New England Region. Thank you, again to Mr Phil
Roberts and Dr Michelle Bannister – Tyrrell from UNE for
their time in being on the selection panel for the program.
The ‘Be Skilled Be Fit’ day held last Thursday was a
wonderful day for all students involved and this week on
Friday will be our School Athletics Carnival – track events
at Armidale High School. All students are reminded to
make sure you bring your hat and a jumper along for Friday.
Our School Council Annual General Meeting for 2014 was
held on Monday 20 May. There is still a vacancy on our
School Council for a parent representative. Attached to
the newsletter two weeks ago was a nomination form for any
parent wishing to nominate for the vacant position.
Nomination forms are due back to the office by the last day
of this term – Friday 20 June.
Levels of interest for a school based Ethics program
commencing for students in Years 5 and 6 have indicated
there are sufficient students who wish to take part in
Ethics classes. Classes will run at the same time as
Scripture classes and start date is planned for Tuesday 15
July (Week 1, Term 3). Early next term we will be
determining the level of interest for other year groups. If
any parent wishes to volunteer to teach Ethics Classes
please let the office know.
I would like to remind parents that supervision for students
before school does not commence until 8.40am. A number
of students have been arriving before this time in the last
few weeks and parents are reminded students who walk,
ride or get dropped off should not be arriving well before
this time. We thank parents and families for their support
with this matter.
Staff will be undertaking professional learning in ‘Taking
Off With Numeracy’ and the ‘Quality Teaching Framework’
on the staff development day at the beginning of next term.
The first day back for students in Term 3 is Tuesday 15
July. I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday
break and thank the entire Armidale City Public School
community for your warm welcome this term. Please feel
free to email me on the address below if you wish to raise
any points of interest. Thank you, to parents who have
already emailed me with suggestions and questions.
Mr Matt Hobbs
Principal
Thankyou !!!! A big thankyou to Jani Cullen who
came in last week to plant out the
garden beds in the infants
playground with an assortment of
winter vegies.
