5/6T CLASS NEWS
Over the past couple of weeks 5/6T have been
composing and publishing short stories. These
stories all involved animal characters and included
a moral story about getting along or persistence.
The students of 5/6T have then shared their
published work with all of the Stage One classes.
Both 5/6T and the Stage One classes are to be
commended for the manner in which they
approached this task and all students have
expressed their enjoyment for working with each
other.
5/6T have recently read 'Sadako' and along with
the other Stage Three classes who read the book,
are trying to make 1000 paper cranes. These
cranes are being displayed in the hallway.
Congratulations to all the students who
participated in the Athletics Field Events Carnival
last week. Unfortunately we have had to postpone
our track carnival due to inclement weather.
Fingers crossed for a nice day next Thursday!

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT—9 Well done to our students who participated in the
Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking held last week in
Inverell. Sam, Anna, Rubi and Peter all presented
outstanding prepared and impromptu speeches -
congratulations to them all on their efforts. Sam was
successful in winning the junior section and will represent
the Northern Tablelands at the Regional Final.
Last week we had a number of students attend North West
PSSA Cross Country at Coolah. Well done to all students
who attended. Congratulations to Chiyo who won her event
and will now be representing North West PSSA at State
Cross Country next term. Well done also to students who
represented Armidale District PSSA at touch football trials
last week. Congratulations to Shaun and Jake on their
selection in the North West team.
Unfortunately our Athletics Carnival which was to be held
today has been postponed due to inclement weather. The
carnival will now be on next Thursday 30 June at Armidale
High School for students from Kindergarten to Year 6.
This is the first time all students across the school have
been participants in the day.
Thank you to all parents who support our school in a positive
and encouraging manner in a variety of ways. The
partnership between families and school is vital to the
success of all our students.
This week has been trying due to the unpleasant weather;
however, all students have been positive in all they are
doing despite not being able to get outside to play – thank
you boys and girls for your great attitudes.
Please feel free to send me an email at any time on the
address below. Enjoy the rest of the week everyone.

LIBRARY NEWS Multicultural Perspectives in Public Speaking
Ross Hill Public School
Congratulations to Anna and Sam who represented our
school in the Years 3 and 4 section of the Multicultural
Perspectives in Public Speaking. They both did a fantastic
job in their prepared speech and the enormously difficult
impromptu speech. Their topic for the impromptu was “It’s
scary”. The topic was so scary that a couple of students
forgot what to say and one very brave student overcame a
slight panic attack and tears to come back and triumph by
delivering a rousing presentation.
Congratulations go to Sam who’s impromptu was the
deciding influence for the adjudicator to award him the
winner. Sam will now represent the New England area at
the next round of the Multicultural Perspectives Public
Speaking Competition.
Congratulations to Rubi and Peter for representing our
school in the Years 5 and 6 section. There were some very
passionate and animated presentations given by students
from areas such as Yetman, Moree, Gum Flats and North
Star (up near Goondiwindi).
The standard was extremely high and Rubi and Peter did a
magnificent job in both rounds of their speeches. The topic
for the 5/6 impromptu was ‘The Great Outdoors’.
There were some very interesting interpretations of the
topic.
All four students were excellent ambassadors for our
school. I was extremely proud of Anna, Sam, Rubi and
Peter. They all used everything they had been told and had
learnt in their preparation for the competition.
Yrs 5&6 Premier’s Debating Challenge Thank you to Mr Ken Docksey for coming to adjudicate for
the debates we had on Thursday 9 June. It was really lovely
to see him and for our students to get support and
feedback from his experience.
The Golden Eagles, made up of Fynn, Alix, Ryan and Maya
debated Uralla Central School. The debate was exciting and
our Armidale City Public School team won.
The Blue Stars, made up of Grace, Jessica, Rubi and
Delphi debated Bundarra Central School. Our girls had the
affirmative argument and the debate was convoluted and
extremely close. Congratulations went to Bundarra Central
School.
All of our debaters learnt lots and lots from the day
(including the coach). We will be dissecting how we can
improve and reflecting on our experiences.
Other students from our squad will have the opportunity to
feel the thrill of the argument soon.
Our next debates will be against the two Ben Venue teams
in Term 3.
Wish us all the best.
BOOKCLUB Issue 4 orders have been placed, on the 18 June 2016. I am
hoping that the orders will arrive early next week – well
before our holiday break.
Thank you,
Mrs Kate McGrath
KINDER BLUE CLASS NEWS It has been another very busy term for Kindergarten Green!
We have been learning all about word families and have been
learning lots of new sight words to help us with our reading
and writing. We are so excited to be writing independently
in our very own writing books. We have been listening to
many wonderful stories this term! Our favourites have been
‘My Dad the Wrestler’ by Matt Zurbo and ‘Puffling’ by
Margaret Wild and Julie Vivas. We have also been learning
lots of fabulous things in Maths, such as subtraction and
fractions! We made collage fairy bread slices and real fairy
bread slices, divided them in half and ‘shared’ them with a
friend! We have had lots of fun at the ‘Be Skilled, Be Fit’
Olympics Day and we have enjoyed having our work
experience student, Olivia, spending time with us in our
classroom. We are looking forward to the school holidays.
We can’t believe that we are nearly halfway through
Kindergarten!!
