Honoring the Heilicher Family — Five Generations of Outstanding Leadership

Dear Friends,

The Sabes JCC’s 18th Annual Golf and Games Event will be held on Monday, August 6, 2018 at Oak Ridge Country Club. This community day of golf, games and friends will culminate in a community dinner honoring the Heilicher family.

In addition to being a wonderful community gathering, the funds raised through this event will fund scholarships that enable families experiencing financial difficulties to enroll their children in our Early Childhood Center, summer camp, and to participate in the full-spectrum of programs and services offered by the J. Because of our commitment to the community and with your support, no one is ever turned away due to inability to pay. The Sabes JCC allocates over $200,000 in scholarships each year.

We hope that in addition to playing in the tournament, you will consider being a sponsor of this year’s event. Golf Sponsorship (and individual registration) includes lunch, golf, and the community dinner honoring the Heilicher family. Also at the dinner, two community awards will be given to long-time volunteers, Micki Naiman and Erv Grossman.

Your sponsorship provides the opportunity to: • Promote your business to 7,000 people receiving information about the event and 400 guests • Entertain clients on the golf course and network with other business and community leaders • Demonstrate your support for the mission of the Sabes JCC and contribute to this Scholarship Fund

For those who are not planning to golf or play in the Mah Jongg /Bridge/Canasta event which takes place in the Clubhouse, we invite you to join us just for dinner, to sponsor a table at the dinner, and/or to make a donation.

For five generations, the Heilicher Family has been at the forefront of leadership, activism, and philanthropy in support of the Minneapolis Jewish and broader Minnesota community, Israel and Jewish communities world-wide. Spanning over a century, the Heilicher family has shared the gifts of their time, ideas, energies and support with almost every local Jewish community organization and many other causes as well. Supporting Jewish education has been a major focus for the family, starting with Menachem Heilicher, who was a beloved teacher at the Minneapolis Talmud Torah from 1912-1962. The Heilicher Minneapolis Jewish Day School has also profoundly benefitted from the family’s lay involvement and educational leadership. Tens of thousands of students have been educated and inspired because of the Heilichers’ on-going commitment to our community’s children. The Heilicher family has been instrumental in helping the Sabes JCC meet its mission through a commitment to camp scholarships, affordability, inclusion of children and adults with special needs, arts programming and collaborative community programs and celebrations. Since opening its doors in 1969 – nearly 50 years ago - the JCC has served and welcomed over 20 million guests into our Center and enriched their lives. Understanding the impact of the Jewish camping experience on Jewish identity, pride and community connections, members of the Heilicher family have also been strong supporters and have played many key leadership roles at Herzl Camp and Camp Ramah. In addition to years of leadership, Lisa has been the welcoming face you see, as she directs traffic at the Herzl bus stop on the first days of camp. Members of the family have also held key positions at the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, The Jewish Historical Society of the Upper Midwest, JFCS, JCRC of Minnesota and the Dakotas, American Israel Chamber of Commerce, the Community Scholarship Committee, PACER, STEP, J-PRIDE, Stone Arch Festival of the Arts which was conceived of and facilitated by Ira Heilicher, Adath Jeshurun Congregation, Beth El Synagogue, NECHAMA – Jewish Response to Disaster, SHOLOM, Moishe House, JNF (Jewish National Fund), JHAP (Jewish Housing and Programming) , JCA (Jewish Community Action), JAFI (Jewish Agency for Israel), Make-A-Wish, YMCA, Habitat for Humanity, Pinky Swear Foundation and local partnership programs with Israel.

Tens of thousands of people’s lives have been touched and the life of our community strengthened by their individual and collective good works and tzedakah. We are honored to recognize the Heilicher Family and thank them for their leadership.
