    Spiritual or Meditative Mudra

    1. Gyan Mudra

    How & When: The most important and most known Spiritual Mudra is Gyan Mudra. Even a layman is well

    versed with this hand gesture adopted by even Gods and Gurus like

    uddha! "hrist! Guru #anak $ev %i! and Swami Mahavir%i et. There are many variations o' this Mudra as

    will be disussed later in this part.

    To per'orm this Mudra one %oins the tip o' the inde( 'inger with the tip o' the thumb o' the same hand!

    keeping the rest o' the three 'ingers straight. The hand is then kept on the knee 'aing up with elbows

    straight and body seated in Sukhasan! )admasan! and *a%rasan or may be on hair with straight bak. +ne

    an keep this Mudra 'or as long as om'ortable and possible. +ne an per'orm this Mudra as any point o'

    time. There are no diet restritions 'or this Mudra.

    +ne should pre'erably per'orm this Mudra while meditating to get ma(imum bene'it out o' it. Mornings

    and evenings are supposed to be the best time 'or it.

    How & When: The hand position is the same as Gyan Mudra 'or this Spiritual Mudra! e(ept 'or the

    position o' hands. The right hand is kept lose to the hest with palm 'aing 'orward in Gyan Mudra and

    the le't hand whih is also in Gyan Mudra is kept on the le't knee with palm 'aing up. The best time 'or

    this Mudra is during meditation.

    3. Cup/Chalice Mudra

    How & When: This is a two hand Mudra. To per'orm this Mudra keep

    the right hand in the lap 'aing up and then keep the le't hand over the right hand with the thumbs

    %oined together pointing up1one may also do it alternatively by keeping one set o' 'ingers over the other

    set o' 'ingers 'aing up and the thumbs %oined pointing up , to 'orm a up with the hands. The order is to

    math the yoga asana. /ou would plae the right hand on top o' the le't hand i' the right leg is on top o'

    the le't leg and vie2versa.

    How & When: The $hyana Mudra is generally per'ormed by both hands. 0ording to tradition! this Mudra

    derives 'rom the one assumed by the uddha when meditating under the )eepal tree be'ore hisEnlightenment The hands are generally held at the level o' the stomah or on the thighs or to be more

    preise in the lap. The right hand is plaed above the le't! with the palms 'aing upwards! and the 'ingers

    e(tended. -n some ases the thumbs o' the two hands may touh at the tips! thus 'orming a mysti

    triangle. The esoteri sets obviously attribute to this triangle a multitude o' meanings! the most

    important being the identi'iation with the mysti 'ire that onsumes all impurities.

    #o$ % &hen: Touh the tip o' the thumb and the tip o' the ring'inger together! keeping the rest o' the three 'ingers straight. Make sure you do not 'ore the 'ingers tobe straight! only try to keep them so.

    This Mudra is pre'erably done in the morning! but ould be done any time o' the day otherwise and 'orany duration. This Mudra is re7uired to be done when one 'eels lak o' energy! enthusiasm and motivationin li'e. 0ll seems dull and li'eless. +ne may per'orm this Mudra with both the hands by sitting in Sukhasanor )admasan! and keeping the bak o' the palms on the knee! keeping the elbows straight.
