aby of mother stabbed to death fights for his life
By Xantha Leatham and Arthur Martin
Clues: Officers at the scene yesterday
Relatives rush to hospital amid fears victim’s boy will not survive
A TWO-DAY-OLD boy rescued from his dying mother’s womb was fighting for his life in a British hospital last night.
Kelly-Mary Fauvrelle, 26, was eight months pregnant when she was stabbed at her home.
Paramedics rushed to Thornton Heath, south London, shortly after 3.30am on Saturday but were unable to save the heavily pregnant mother.
The baby, named by relatives as Riley, was delivered at the scene and remains critically ill in hospital.
Yesterday, speaking from her home in Crystal Palace, southeast London, the dead woman’s devastated aunt, Rosa
we can’t wait to meet you.’ Other posts revealed the pregnant
woman was a keen motorbike enthusiast and that, in March last year, she passed her bus driving test ‘with pretty much full marks’ with Arriva London, which oper- ates Transport for London’s buses.
The company said that she undertook bus driver training between February and June 2018 before leaving.
Last night, family and friends took to social media to pay tribute.
Her brother Stephan Alexander Simpson wrote: ‘Words can’t describe the pain we’re feeling. You couldn’t have been a better sister and I thank you for always being there for me, helping whenever I needed it. A beautiful person whose life has been taken away from her.
‘I’ll stay strong, so you’ll always be in my thoughts. I love you more than you can possibly imagine.’
A close family friend, who did not wish
to be named, added: ‘If you ever wanted something, she would go out of her way to help you. She was a good and honest person. It’s savage what happened to Kelly... There are about 100 members of her extended family and I spoke to some of them yesterday – they were in pieces on the phone.
‘They will have to live with this for the rest of their lives. Whoever did this – if they were fully aware of what they were doing – then they are sick. What in the world could drive somebody to do this?’
Yesterday, forensic officers could be seen leaving the property and swabbing surfaces in an alley running along the side of the house.
In a statement, Scotland Yard said: ‘A 29-year-old man was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of murder.
‘He was taken to a south London police

station where he remains at this time. ‘A 37-year-old male arrested that same
day has been released under investigation pending further inquiries.’
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: ‘Violence against women has no place in our city and horrific murders in the home like this show the scale of the problem we face. My heart goes out to this innocent child and to the mother they have so tragically lost.’
Detective Chief Inspector Mick Norman said: ‘This is a horrific incident in which a young mother has lost her life and her child is critically ill.’
He added: ‘At the forefront of our inquiries is understanding what exactly has led to these tragic circumstances and we are doing everything we can to establish the facts.’
Fauvrelle, said: ‘It’s my husband’s niece. He’s at the hospital because they are doing a little blessing as they think the baby might not survive.
‘Everyone’s on edge and everyone’s very short-fused. No-one knows anything at the moment. We don’t know what happened. Everybody at the moment is very hysterical, very tired.
‘People want answers and we’re just not getting anywhere. I know today they have gone to the hospital as they said that if you want, you can bring a priest in. I don’t think the baby is going to make it.’
Mrs Fauvrelle added that her niece was an ‘absolute sweetheart’ and that being a mother was ‘all she dreamed about’.
In February, Ms Fauvrelle shared her ultrasound scan on Facebook with the caption: ‘Happy Valentine’s sweet pea...

POLES APART: Leclerc is out in front with Hamilton (right) in fourth
Raikkonen fumes at Hamilton while new kids rise up
FERRARI’S Charles Leclerc will start on pole for the Austrian Grand Prix today as Lewis Hamilton was hit with a three-place grid penalty.
Hamilton said he ‘totally deserved’ the punishment for impeding Alfa Romeo’s Kimi Raikkonen in quali- fying.
The five-time world champion had qualified second behind Leclerc before receiving the penalty which, in a twist typical of a sport renowned for turning simple maths into a complex calculation, dropped Hamilton to fourth.
That placing, confirmed on a pro- visional grid published by the gov- erning FIA, took even Hamilton’s Mercedes team by surprise.
‘We thought P5 but will not com- plain if it becomes P4,’ said a spokesman.
The sanction means Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, last year’s race winner, moves up to form a front row of 21-year-olds, the youngest in history. Valterri Bottas will start from third.
‘Totally deserved the penalty today and have no problem accept- ing it,’ Hamilton said in an Insta- gram post.
‘Was a mistake on my behalf and I take full responsibility for it. It wasn’t intentional. Anyway, tomor- row is another day and an opportu- nity to rise.
‘These things are sent to try us. We all have to push through what- ever it is we are up against, whether it’s right or wrong, just continue to believe in yourself!’ he added.
‘We have the power to overcome obstacles even when they appear too large a task.’
Hamilton, who leads Bottas by 46 points, was called to the stewards for obstructing Raikkonen while the Finn was on a fast lap. Raikko- nen was incensed by the incident and flashed a finger at Hamilton in protest.
‘Hamilton totally blocked me,’ he
complained over the radio. He later said: ‘How can it be so difficult to move out of the way for people? He should have slowed down and let me go. But he slowed down and then sped up.’
In explaining the penalty, the FIA’s race stewards said that Ham- ilton had ‘just come out of the pits and was informed of the cars approaching, including car 7 [Raik-
konen]. Although car 44 tried to take evasive action when he became aware of car 7 approaching on a fast lap, it was not sufficient to avoid impeding car 7, which then had to abort the lap.’
Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel failed to go out in the final part of qualify- ing because of a problem with the air-pressure line to his engine and his team had to withdraw him after
failing to fix it in time. He will start ninth.
‘Obviously the car was broken so we couldn’t fire up and go,’ said Vet- tel. ‘We lost parts of Q2 (the second phase) and then Q3 completely.
‘The guys did everything they could but we couldn’t do it in time. It’s frustrating but nothing you can do inside the car and nobody’s fault.’
Leclerc had looked the faster Fer- rari driver for much of the week- end and delivered on his potential to take his second pole. The Monaco native’s time of one minute 03.003 seconds was the fastest ever lap around the undulating 4.3km Red Bull Ring.
‘Come on, baby, yes!’ he shouted over the team radio.
‘I’m extremely happy,’ Leclerc said later. ‘We have been competi- tive since second practice but it is always difficult to do the lap at the time. It is just a shame for Seb. We should have two cars close to one and two.’
Britain’s Lando Norris will start in fifth, the McLaren rookie ini- tially having qualified in sixth but the beneficiary of a five-place drop for Haas’ Kevin Magnussen, who required a gearbox change.

Well there’s a surprise!
It was love at first swipe. They married in Vegas ten days after meeting online – but just eight weeks later, it was over...
Friends and family said it would never last – and they were right.
A couple who married in Las Vegas ten days after meeting on a dating app have split up after less than eight weeks as man and wife.
sarah elliott, 34, a nanny, has revealed she parted ways with Paul edwards, 37, after a tumultuous two months that saw them living with not one but two of her exes – both also called Paul.
Ms elliott and Mr edwards, a trainee electrician, met on the matchmaking app Bumble on december 15 last year and instantly hit it off. After exchanging mes- sages online they spoke on the phone for the first time on december 22, and made plans to fly to Las Vegas for their first date – a wedding.
despite their nearest and dearest’s mis- givings, the couple insisted their fledgling relationship was based on a ‘deep connec- tion’. After their Christmas day wedding, Mr edwards moved into Ms elliott’s
By David Wilkes
home, which she shared with two former lovers, both also named Paul.
Ms elliott said initially the quartet formed ‘one big, happy, albeit unusual family’. However, she said her husband became ‘very jealous of one of my Pauls, who i’d had a long-term relationship with and who shared the mortgage’.
‘I took those vows seriously’
After a week, she said Mr edwards started a row while they were playing a board game. she said: ‘Paul got funny because i was apparently sitting two inches closer to my ex… He accused me of still being in love with him.’
The atmosphere ‘turned sour’. ‘i’d be with my ex in his room, comforting him, but leaving the door open to appease my husband. Paul would storm in and accuse me of sleeping with Paul.’
in an attempt to patch things up, the newlyweds went to a ‘fet-
ish party’, which Ms elliott enjoyed – although she did not sleep with other partygoers. Ms edwards, who says she has a high sex drive, said: ‘it was great. i love kinky parties and role-playing and although Paul was not au fait with that world, he was open to it.
‘i thought i’d met my match, in and out of the bedroom.’
However, she said Mr edwards was ‘a fish out of water’ and ‘would get all jealous’ when
other men said hello to her. On another night out, she
claimed Mr edwards erupted with fury ‘and said i’d cheated on him’ after she gave a gay man a ‘cheeky’ kiss on the lips. she said that as their relation- ship faltered she ‘felt conned, like he had sold me a version of himself that wasn’t real’. ‘As i became less attracted to him, our sex life dwindled. He got a “man cold” and moaned all the time. it wasn’t sexy at all.’
she asked Mr edwards to move out then decided to give the relationship another go, saying: ‘We were married and i took those vows seriously.’
However, they had ‘another big row’ and tried counselling, before splitting for good days before their two-month anni- versary. Ms elliott said: ‘now i’m living the polyamorous life- style and loving it.’ Mr edwards declined to comment.

IRIDESSA OUT ON HER OWN
IRISH RESULTS
Iridessa bounced back to her very best to spring a surprise in the Juddmonte Pretty Polly stakes at the Curragh
yesterday evening. The Joseph O’Brien-trained filly
had ended her juvenile campaign on a high with victory in the Fil- lies’ Mile at Newmarket, but had fallen short at the highest level in both the english and irish 1,000 Guineas after being beaten on her seasonal debut.
However, she showed her true colours to land the second Group One success of her career.
Magic Wand was the first to lead, but Wild illusion went on seven furlongs out until into the straight. Magic Wand regained the advan- tage, but Wayne Lordan produced iridessa (8-1) with a well-timed run to assert in the final furlong and cross the line two and a quar- ter lengths to the good.
Pink dogwood, trained like the runner-up by aidan O’Brien, was a never-dangerous third. Charlie appleby’s Wild illusion was fourth, with the david Lanigan-trained Worth Waiting last of the five.
‘she won very well and it was a
huge performance. Wayne gave her a lovely ride and the race worked out well for her. i’m over the moon,’ said O’Brien.
‘There wasn’t a big field, but there were some very very good fillies in the race. We were hopeful, and confident of a good run from her. The lads at home felt that she was as good as she has been all year.
‘it was fairly obvious from her pedigree that she should step up once she went up in trip, but obvi- ously you don’t always know that until you do it.
‘she ran well here in the Guin- eas. she had to battle for her posi- tion through the race and she still ran on well. she seemed to improve as she went on last year and natu- rally she carries condition and she’s strong and hardy.
‘That’s obviously a career-best again today and she’s progressed with each run so far this year.’
O’Brien is understandably think- ing of the Kerrygold-sponsored irish Oaks next. Obviously against her own age group it would prob- ably make sense to go to the Oaks,’ he said.
‘it would be the logical step, but at the same time she won today like a pacey filly. We’ll get her home and have the conversation then.’
iridessa was given a quote of 6-1 for the irish Oaks with Paddy Power.
Meanwhile, Twilight Payment dug deep to see off all-comers in the Comer Group international Curragh Cup.
There was drama before the Group Two contest got under way when the stands were briefly evac- uated due to a fire alarm.
it delayed proceedings by nine minutes, but there were no such problems in the race for jockey Kevin Manning and Twilight Pay- ment, as Jim Bolger’s six-year-old made most of the running.
Latrobe, the 2018 irish derby hero, looked a serious threat in the straight, but there was no stopping the 7-1 chance, who held on by a neck to go two places bet- ter than 12 months ago.
The Luke Comer-owned and trained raa atoll, representing the race sponsors, was two and three-quarter lengths away in third.
Twilight Payment was given a quote of 50-1 for the Melbourne Cup with Paddy Power.
