  • SPEND THIS SUMMER DOING AN INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH INTERNSHIP! Operation Wallacea runs a series of forest and marine conservation management research programs in 8 countries. They all include both forest training and/or marine monitoring with teams of academics targeting specific research questions leading to publication. So far theyve discovered 30 new vertebrate species! Research subjects include large and small mammals including primates, botany, herpetology, birds, marine ecology and physiology in coral reefs and intertidal zones, fisheries, conservation management, and environmental science. Indonesia: Coral reef monitoring at Hoga Island Marine Research Station and/or jungle and canopy access at the Lambusango forests on Buton Island Honduras: Biodiversity in Cusuco National Forest and/or reef and benthic ecology/human impacts at Coral View Research Center and Tela Marine Research Center Peru: Biodiversity in the upper reaches of the Amazon---river dolphins, manatees, and river otters in Pacaya Samiria National Reserve South Africa: Elephants and tourism impact in Kwazuzu Natal Reserves Madagascar: Biodiversity and multiuse management in Mahamavo forests and/or Indian Ocean Reef Ecology Mexico: Tropical forest biodiversity and carbon storage in the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve and/or sea turtle research in Akumal, literally home of the turtles Guyana: Sustainable utilization along with wilderness preservation of the Iwokrama Forest, a tropical rainforest Transylvania: Biodiversity and land use in the foothills of the Carpathian mountains, featuring bears and wolves, small mammals, herpetafauna, birds, plants, and butterflies Summer Semester Abroad Internship (8 weeks) Application Process begins: Fall semester 2014 Complete Application Process: January 30, 2015 How This Helps YOU To Get Your CCU degree: BIOL 399/499 = 6 credits (accepted as BIOL required electives see your advisor) *Pay in-state tuition rates* For application and information about program costs and arrangements, please visit: http://www.coastal.edu/internships/students/internationalinternships/oppwall.html Students are urged to visit with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to understand how their own financial aid may be used to help pay for this international study travel experience.
