President Rick Amsberry called the meeting to order by noting that one nice aspect of our meetings is that they are on Friday. He emphasized his point with a quote from Rotary

President Rick’s quote from Paul Harris:“Is the world really using you badly, friend, or do you merely think so? For all fancy ills of body and mind, I recommend the old Rotary remedy of abandoning self for awhile. Sojourn for a day in the joys, aye, the sorrows of others.”

founder, Paul Harris. Charlotte Kroeker gave the invocation, adapted from The Book of Common

Prayer. Cindy Cum-mings led the Pledge of Allegiance and “The Star Spangled Banner,” followed by “America.”

Mark Kashar introduced our visitors and guests, including for-mer member Jim Lilly, then stayed at the podium to recognize The Hub and the web advertisers of the week

Greg Pape reminded us that the Every Rotarian Every Year donation of a $100 supports the Rotary Foundation humanitarian and educational projects. This is World Water Week; RI has awarded almost 9,000 grants, totaling $52 million for clean water projects. Greg also noted that twelve RCPC members

are members of the Paul Harris Society, who give $1000 yearly to the Rota-ry Foundation. One of the PHS members is Gerry Montgomery who has earned his ninth level PHF represented by a pin with three rubies. Gerry told a story of his lottery as-pirations, but concluded with the moral, not to wait

tine Cristlieb, Bill Matthews, and Daw-son Orr. Tom Stutz announced Honored Guest Day on October 1st, and re-minded anyone bringing a guest to

register them online. Fred Brown introduced our newest member John Reed, a Dallas native who works for Merrill Lynch.

President Rick called the Annu-al Meeting, which will be on Nov. 19.

John Gilchrist introduc-ed today’s speaker, Dr. Britt Berrett, president of Texas Health Pres-byterian Hospital. He stated that

healthcare is dynamic, changing and in a constant state of evolu-tion. The health system does more today than has ever been done in history. There are three areas that have had amazing develop-ments. One area is in the breakthroughs in biomedical devices, resulting in minimally invasive procedures that replace major sur-geries. In the future these same procedures will be out patient. Another area of amazing progress is pharmacology; in the future medi-cines will be matched to the exact disease. The third area is in information technology; all of a person’s medical records will be on a card, so it is available at any time any place.

THOUGHTS ON . . .Friends

A friend is someone who will help you move. A real friend is some-one who will help you move a body. ~ UnknownIt is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive a friend.

~ William BlakeMoney can't buy friends, but it can get you a better class of enemy. ~ Spike MilliganIn the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.

~ Martin Luther King Jr.A true friend is the greatest of all blessings, and that which we take the least care of all to acquire. ~ Francois de La

RochefoucauldWithout friends no one would choose to live, though he had all other goods. ~ Aristotle

Wrinkled was not one of the things I wanted to be when I grew up.

I used to have a handle on life ... but it broke.

Becoming aware of my character defects led me naturally to the next step of blaming my parents.
