    Keani DiBerardino, President

    Speech Major, 4th year student

What do you like about being in SCS?Being in SCS has been a great experience.

Events in SCS allow for members, graduate students,

and faculty involvement which allows us to get to

know one another outside of the classroom. It makes

the university experience less intimidating and cre-

ates a strong social environment during our time at

UH. Not many departments in UH can say they have

the same family-like connection between faculty and

    students.

    Class Standing: Senior

    Interdisciplinary Studies: Non-Prot Organizations

    Major and Speech Minor

What do you like about SCS?I enjoy being in SCS because it is fun and easy

to make friends; it is great for showing how unique the

Speech Department is and how accessible the profes-

sors are. It is also wonderful to see and be part of a

group who is not only service oriented but also socia-

    ble.

    Rhoda Zamora Castillo, Treasurer

Class Standing: Senior, Graduating in May 2011.

Science and Human Nutrition with a focus in Dietetics

Major and Speech Minor. What do you like about SCS?

What I like about SCS is that it is an organiza-

tion outside of my major that allows me to network

with other students of different majors, minors, and

also connects me with faculty outside of the class-

room. Ive noticed that SCS is one of few organiza-

tions at the university that helps students form closer

bonds with the department professors. With that said,

SCS has beneted me by providing me with opportu-

nities to meet new and different people, by helping meimprove my speech and communication skills, and by

    enhancing my resume.

    Marilyn Tangi, Historian

I love being a member of SCS. It is a great way

spare time, which I barely have, you can nd me at a

coffee shop, the library, or working on a boat taking

photos of tourist. I also am a photographer for Kaleo

O Hawaii. I am excited about this semester and hope

to met you and get acquainted. Lets make this semes-

    ter fun!!

What do you like about SCS?

The best thing about SCS is making friends

who are or have taken the same classes I am. Its

helpful if I need a book.

Fall 2010 has been an eventful semester. In

the midst of school, work and exams, SCS members

had the opportunity to socialize with students and

    professors throughout various events.

    This semester, the Speech Communication

Society hosted social events such as general meet-ings and the Beach Bash. Students and faculty also

Attendees prepare for another round of

got into friendly competition mode through the annual

    Student vs. Faculty Bowling event.

    Besides socializing activities, SCS members

focused on academics in October. On October 20th, a

Masters Degree info session was held in GRG 214.

Members also had an opportunity to learn about what

career elds a Bachelors Degree in Speech can get

    into with Dr. Jayson Dibble.

November was a Service Learning and inter-

personal communication oriented month for SCS. On

November 20th, SCS worked with Project Hawaii to

fundraise money for homeless children in the commu-

nity. Finally, students dressed to impress for the excit-

ing and fast-paced setting of speed dating. Whether it

was for potential romance or just a networking oppor-

tunity the Speed Dating event on November 12 at the

Campus Center Dining Area was a riveting success.

Thank you to the members, faculty and graduate stu-

dents who helped make this fall very eventful. Great

Job everyone! We look forward to more fun events

next Spring. Have a safe winter break and Happy

    Holidays!
