When an insulating liquid fails to meet the defined specifications engineers are left with just two options; change the insulating liquid or, if the liquid has not turned acidic, apply on-site purification.

WHY USE PURIFICATION

Using mineral oil as a working example, oil in service is permitted to contain up to 30 mg/Kg moisture in order to meet the requirements of ‘Good Condition’ by BS EN 60422:2013.
On-site purification avoids costs of new oil and waste disposal.
The oil change of a typical 2MVA mineral oil site transformer by a maintenance company will be in excess of £3,570.00+VAT, whereas Eden’s on-site purification results in a higher specification oil at just 52%. MIDEL 7131 changes for a 2MVA transformer will typically cost in excess of £10,500+VAT.
A MIDEL 7131 filled transformer will increase the oil change cost by £6,665.00+VAT.
SPECIFICATION OF INSULATING LIQUID
Typically on-site purification will achieve moisture levels below 10 mg/ Kg and dielectric strength in excess of 75kV.
It should also be noted that the specification for new oil in a drum (BS EN 60296:2012) need only be a low as 40mg/Kg and some suppliers will achieve only that and the oil needs pre-processing.

SUPPORTING TRANSFORMER REPAIRSEden are regularly called upon to work alongside high voltage engineers in the repair of transformers such as tap-changer replacements, failed drain valves and general leaks.

ON-SITE PURIFICATION IN HARD TO REACH PLACESUnfortunately not all electrical planners factor in the supervision and maintenance of transformers, or compromises must be made when fitting out older properties.
To meet these challenges Eden has invested in a range of purification plants to access the most inaccessible place from basements, to roof tops via fire escapes or cranes to offshore platforms.
Eden was formed by Alan Denbow and Eddie Gregory in August 1985.
Former employees of Burmah Castrol, they realised that the vast majority of electrical engineers were simply replacing expensive transformer oil without fully appreciating the additional technical benefits of purification to the electrical equipment, and that Eden could achieve a more convenient solution at a significantly lower cost.
In more recent years the treatment of transformer oil is the first choice for a cost effective and efficient maintenance program: the increasing cost of new oil, the importance of productivity and equipment downtime, coupled with the environmental benefits of avoiding the transportation of hazardous waste and use of virgin products, are all part of the equation.
As well as providing on-site transformer oil treatment, if needed, Eden can supply and install new or reconditioned insulating liquid and provide all of the on and off site sampling and analysis to ensure transformers are supervised and maintained according to British Standards (BS EN 60422:2013) and insurance underwriters requirements.
