Las Sendas - Building a Sense of Community… www.thetrailhead.org
Pet Network Tom and Lana Taylor, pet owners living in the Highlands enclave of Las Sendas, have established a communications network for pet owners and pet lovers in Las Sendas. The network provides a method for participants who have found a stray pet or who have lost a pet to send a “pet alert” out
to other participants in the network. This alert allows others to be on the lookout for the runaway or possibly to recognize a found stray and notify its owners.
Tom developed the idea for the network about two years ago when some friends found a stray dog in their yard and spent a significant amount of time, energy, and expense trying to track down the owners of the lost pet. From this experience, Tom decided that everyone might be able to be more effective if someone had a database of pet owners, descriptions of their pets, and contact information so that word could be spread quickly and widely if a pet were lost or found. He discussed the idea with a few other pet owners and found a receptive interest. So, he began collecting contact information and building the database.
He has established a database that includes owner’s name, address, enclave, phone number, email address, pet’s name,
breed or mix of breeds, and color. Tom will not release any of this information without permission of the individual owner. The database is used only for communications regarding pet issues and information -- no commercial solicitation or advertising is conducted. owners wishing to send communications to other owners do so with an email or phone call to Tom, and he will forward it to everyone in the database using blind copy to protect email addresses. Those people, in turn, often forward it further to other friends and family.
The network now has over 100 people participating, representing over 75 households and 28 enclaves in Las Sendas. The more participants who sign up, the more effective the network becomes in spreading the word regarding pet issues.
Tom feels the effort has helped greatly with such things as lost pet searches, finding owners of runaway pets, sharing information on pet-related activities and issues such as dog park gatherings and illness outbreaks, and keeping owners informed of changes in state, county, and city ordinances and organizational responsibilities.
If any Las Sendas residents wish to participate in this network or wish more information, please contact Tom Taylor at 480-924-4333, or by email at [email protected]. There is no cost for participation in the network.

LSCA Management Briefs
Las Sendas Board BitsBy Barbara Carpenter, LSCA President
I enjoy bragging on the Las Sendas community, don’t you? While resting during an MRI of my aging body, I was composing this article in my mind. I was reminded that one’s attitude, one’s receptiveness to the fundamental positives of life, is a choice, an important choice.
I am, as are others, trying to extend an active lifestyle by adapting to changes with positive choices. Each of us spends time planning our futures by working toward living longer in good health, deciding when to retire, ensuring sufficient money to support a quality life plus “go to Disneyland” or fulfill a bucket list.
People choose Las Sendas because of its location and its prestige. Its attraction is characterized by warmth, morning and evening breezes, clean air, sunshine, vibrant night skies, and free views of distant urban corridors, mountains and open, natural spaces from our common areas. Mother Nature offers these pleasures, and we take steps to protect our access to them.
our facilities make conducting our business, healthy lifestyles and fun more convenient; they permit easier performance of our tasks, and radiate classy, relaxed and active and healthy, southwestern style—our Las Sendas signature. an amenity is a feature that contributes to comfort, pleasure, attractiveness and value. Perhaps we can deduce (thank you, Sherlock Holmes) that our facilities perform as amenities if they function as intended, are comfortable and pleasurable, and add attractiveness and value to the overall community.
How could the concept of “choice” be turned to a discussion of our community amenities, I pondered. How each of us enjoys our common amenities and facilities is a personal choice. The price of access (our quarterly assessment) and the shared benefit are the same for every Las Sendas Community association Member.
Working toward Las Sendas’ future life and good health, your Board and management have established long-term goals and objectives in addition to scheduled facilities repair and replacement according to the Reserve Fund schedule. This is to ensure a fiscally responsible Las Sendas signature environment for years to come according to our Vision and Mission.
So, there it is. I hope you will choose to partake in more of our/your facilities and amenities to enhance your individual Las Sendas experience. Regardless, the overall community value extends to all. Enjoy!
2nd Quarter Assessments

Plant Management“Spring Cut Back” and “Selective Pruning”
Plant management is one of the most important concepts to maintaining your landscape. a natural pruning technique promotes the natural beauty of the shrubs and ground covers in the landscape. We have created this information sheet to hopefully help our clients better understand the “Spring Cut Back” and “Selective Pruning” management techniques that we will be using on your property.
our general definition of a “Spring Cut Back” is removing the bulk of the plant material from the shrub and ground covers so that the shrubs are left approximately 18”-24” tall or the main core of the ground cover. Each plant may be treated slightly different as to its condition, but in essence this practice is a severe pruning of the plant that is typically performed in the spring months. It is not always necessary to cut back all of the plants every year. after evaluating the plants on the property, only certain species or areas may need to be cut back from year to year.
Why perform a “Spring Cut Back”?1. To revitalize a sheared shrub. When shrubs are continually
sheared the plant becomes very woody and bare looking. also, flowers are continually being removed.
2. Keep the plants contained within their intended space without having to continually shear them. Replacing plants in this situation with plants that will fit the intended space is another solution.
3. Rejuvenating old shrubs by removing older wood and leaving younger healthier wood. This helps to promote flowering since most flowering shrubs will bloom either on 1-year old growth or on new growth.
Home and Landscape…
Landscape Update - Four Peaks Landscape
What can you expect to see from the “Spring Cut Back”?
The first step is cutting back the plant material to an appropriate height. This will also remove any frost damage from the plants that may have occurred during the winter. Typically within the first 30 days you will see new growth appear. as we start into summer you will begin to see more and more flowers on several of the different shrubs and ground covers. Summer is the growing season for a majority of the plants, so this is the time that we want to help control the growth through the use of “Selective Pruning”.
“Selective Pruning” is a method of only pruning the unwanted growth from the plant. This would include awkward growth, crossing branches and deadwood. The goal is to keep the natural look of the shrub and help promote flowering.
Please remember that Pruning is an invigorating process and one of the most important parts of managing your landscape…

Congratulations Red Mountain High School Football!!!Congratulations to Coaches Eddie Bradford, Chris andreadis, and andrew Reinholz and the following players Billy Freeman, Mitch Struhs, Jonah Reinholz, Nathan Cortazzo, Cory Ruffing, Steven andrews, Nick Biebedorf, Lorenzo Bradford, Ethan Cortazzo, Colton “Stormy” Morley, and Cody o’Brien, fellow Las Sendas residents, and the rest of the Lions for an outstanding football season! They ended their season with a 9-3 record and advanced to the second round of the playoffs! Head Coach Ron Wisneiwski says, “We can’t thank the Community enough for all their support. We are looking forward to another exciting Mountain Lion football season.”
The Lions coaching staff, players, and parents would like to invite the Las Sendas Community to their 2nd annual Red Mountain Lion Carnival on Thursday, March 29, 2012 through april 1, 2012. This carnival will boast 12 fair rides, a ton of games, food for purchase from a variety of local vendors, and great live entertainment! admission and parking is free! To purchase tickets, or find more information, please visit www.redmountainfootball.com! This event would be a great way for the community to meet the coaching staff and players, which from my understanding is comprised of a great group of boys! It might even encourage you to attend some games and become part of their football family!
