Editorial Announcement

1. This special issue is a subset of the papers presented at a conference on Evaluation of Training Programmes held on 10-11 September 1993 at CEMFI, Madrid. All submitted papers were refereed individually and subjected to the usual standards of acceptance at the Review. The conference was organized by Manuel Arellano and Costas Meghir. The organizers would like to acknowledge financial support from CEMFI and the Bank of Spain.

2. The ninth set of Review of Economic Studies European Meetings were held in May in Oxford, Brussels, Barcelona and Tel Aviv. At these meetings, held annually, a number of the most promising graduating doctoral students in the world present their research to audiences in Europe. This is in line with the Review's tradition of encouraging the work of young economists. The selection of speakers was made by the Foreign Editors of the Review, coordinated by Robert Porter. A list of speaker and their papers is given at the end of the issue.

For next year the selection of speakers will be coordinated by John Cochrane. Sugges- tions for suitable candidates are welcomed but there is no formal application process and the Foreign Editors will make their own searches and will not restrict their choice to names suggested by outside sources. Suggestions should be coordinated through department heads and made to
