Dear Members:

Thank you for being part of the Thrivent Member Network–Mid-America Region. We ARE a regional force of action and generosity making an impact in our community. You can see from the statistics on this page the great things we accomplished together in 2018. It is my honor to work with this faith-filled community, and I am excited about the positive steps we’re taking this year. Our priorities in 2019 are to activate members in our community, grow and deepen our connections with churches and mission-aligned nonprofits, and help members be wise with money. Your Thrivent Member Network–Mid-America Region is doing this in a variety of ways:

• Hosting member activation workshops educating new members and members who may not have connected with us in a while on the benefits of their Thrivent membership.

• Hosting webinars and in-person workshops on financial and personal development topics.

• Spotlighting nonprofits and Thrivent Action Teams that support them.

• Providing volunteer opportunities in our community and connecting with both members and churches for participation.

I hope that you take advantage of the opportunities provided to you through your membership, whether by hosting a Thrivent Action Team, directing Thrivent Choice Dollars®, participating in Habitat and Thrivent Faith Builds projects or attending a Thrivent Member Network event. Your activation is what helps us reach our goal of making a positive impact in our community.

God bless you and your families,

Scott MolanderRegional Board Executive ChairThrivent Member Network–Mid-America Region

Around the Region

Volunteers Help Build Home INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA—His family gently teases him that he spent more time working on a home for a Habitat and Thrivent Partnership project than he did his own home. But Thrivent Financial Professional Erland Porter doesn’t mind. He was happy he could help build a house for the Jimisons, who were in need of decent housing. Porter and the two dozen volunteers he recruited spent three days on the site, working alongside the homeowners. They helped frame the roof and install siding, and they painted the entire exterior. His team of volunteers included friends, family, members of a congregation and employees of an accounting firm.

Member Events Include Service ActivitiesMID-AMERICA REGION—Grandparents, parents and children were the focus of several events hosted by the Thrivent Member Network–Mid-America Region. Each event was a day dedicated to fun, service and fellowship with other members. At Leaders Farms in Napoleon, Ohio, members painted pumpkins to decorate Filling Memorial Homes of Mercy. At Eckert’s Boyd Orchard in Versailles, Kentucky, members packed 100 baby blessing bags and raised $1,000 for Baby Health Services. In Louisville, Kentucky, members gathered at Huber’s Orchard, Winery & Vineyards to learn about Be the Match and Friend for Life. They also wrote cards for recently diagnosed cancer patients.

Dinner Features Financial Education FORT WAYNE, INDIANA—A member event and dinner held in October—Education at the Embassy: A Progressive Dinner for Lutheran Education—combined education, service and fun. Forty-two guests “progressed” from one 15-minute session to another with each course of the meal. Topics covered included generosity, scholarships and information about Lutheran Schools Partnership (LSP). It was held at the Embassy Theatre and Indiana Hotel and was co-sponsored by LSP. The evening started with appetizers and ended with dessert. Afterward, guests enjoyed coffee and could participate in a Thrivent Action Team to write thank-you notes and stuff packages for pastors who support LSP.

Thrivent Action Team Helps Kids SoarLEXINGTON, KENTUCKY—Stephanie and Joshua Moore were inspired to organize a service project for their children’s school, Glendover Elementary. They wanted to help kids learn that they could make a difference in their community. Stephanie led a Thrivent Action Team that invited kids to fill out an application describing what service project they wanted to do. Five were selected, and seed money was used to fund the projects, which ranged from making a meal for neighbors and picking up trash, to holding a bake sale for an animal shelter. Because this was so successful, the school implemented a monthly service project program, called Soaring Eagle, that allows all kids to participate.
