Challenge  to  architects  &  engineers    How  to  build  a  completely  flexible  building,  for  real  life,  not  just  an  intellectual  exercise.    Libraries  are  buildings  that  will  change  all  the  Sme,  great  opportunity  for  architects  and  engineers  to  design  something  really  thoughTul  and  have  impact.  

Invest  during  construcSon,  save  operaSng  funds  later.    

Future  proof  your  library  with  strong  infrastructure.    

Don’t  invest  in  stuff,  everything  that  sits  on  floors  and  walls  and  hung  from  ceilings  will  be  replaced  in  5-­‐10  

years      

10  years  later,    The  library  will  look  completely,    

Because  your  users  will  have  demanded  change,  Everything  will  be  re-­‐arranged  and  different  

At  UofC  we  faced  this  reality  2  months  into  the  TFDL  being  open…
