welcome!Thank you for you interest in planning for the future of the Southwest Area! We hope this evening’s Visioning Session

provides you with an opportunity to share and express your opinions and to learn something new. Tonight’s program

will be structured as follows:

6:00-7:00 Interactive display and questions

Please take some time to review the panels on display and provide your feedback. City staff and consultant team

members will be available to answer your questions.

7:00-7:30 Welcoming remarks and presentation

Members of our project team will present welcoming remarks, a brief overview of the Southwest Area Study process,

and some initial thoughts on visioning the future for the southwest.

7:30-8:30 Small group discussions

The core component of the evening is a series of facilitated small group discussions. After the presentation, please

make your way to one of the tables. If there is more than one representative from your group, please go to different

tables in order to provide a diversity of viewpoints at each table. Project Team members will guide participants through

each of the four themes we would like to discuss this evening.

8:30-9:00 Reporting back

Once all the groups have had an opportunity to discuss each of the four themes, a reporter will be assigned from each

table to share with the larger audience the key themes, ideas and recommendations that emerged from your discus-

sion.

why are we here tonight?The City of London is taking the lead in creating a long-term plan for the Southwest Area - the last significant portion of

undeveloped lands within the city’s Urban Growth Boundary. You are here because we need your help!

This evening’s discussion is the first in a series of public events designed to collect your input into the area planning

process. The purpose of tonight’s session is to get your help in crafting a vision for how southwest London should

grow in the coming decades. Specifically, we would like to hear your thoughts on the following themes:

SWAP Study Area boundaries

study purposeThe Southwest London Area Plan (SWAP) is a City-initiated and Development Charge (DC) funded area study that will

provide a comprehensive assessment of the opportunities and constraints for the planning and development of south-

west London. As set out in London’s Official Plan (Section 2.6.8), the area study will provide the basis for an Official

Plan amendment that will identify or refine environmental features, areas and natural resources; apply specific land use

designations; and identify collector road alignments. The SWAP may be adopted as a secondary plan to provide guid-

ance for implementation of the sub area plans.

study areaThe primary study area for the project is shown in the map below. It includes all of the Urban Growth Area south of

Southdale Road, east of Dingman Creek, and north of Highways 401/402 and including Brockley Planning Area. Rec-

ognizing that substantial tracts of land are already developed for urban uses (Lambeth, Exeter Road Industrial Area) or

designated and planned for development through previous area planning studies (North Talbot, Bostwick East, North

Longwoods and Dingman), the study will focus on lands currently undeveloped and designated in the Official Plan as

“Urban Reserve”.

how do we use these workbooks?These workbooks are divided into two main parts. The first section (what you are reading now) is for you to take home

with you. It provides an overview of the study process, study area, study timeline, and opportunities for consultation.

The second section of the workbook (the last page) is a place for you to record and share your ideas with the project

team and fellow community members. This section is divided into four visioning themes, and includes a series of ques-

tions. Please answer these questions in any format you wish - or simply use this space to offer any thoughts or com-

ments you have. You will have the option of sharing your feedback in small group discussions, or you may leave your

comments with any member of our project team here this evening.

Your comments will be used to help formulate the vision for the southwest area. They will also be summarized and

posted on the project website at:

What elements need to be present for the southwest to become a “complete” community? What are the qualities that

you value most in a neighbourhood? Does it need a mix of land uses & housing types? What kind of places do you like

to go for shopping and dining? What would you like to see in your neighbourhood? Are there uses that are not part of a

liveable community? What kind of community facilities and open spaces do you value?

Theme 2 - AN ATTRACTIVE PLACE

What kinds of streets do you like living and walking on? What happens on those streets? What kinds of parks and pub-

lic squares do you enjoy?

Dingman creek, the woodlots, the Village of Lambeth and the other neighbouring communities of London help form

a unique identify?
