Greetings from the Youth Programs Coordinator

Dear South Regional Academic Bowl teams, he moment that you all have been waiting for has inally arrived! he Youth Programs team and the Academic Bowl Executive committee warmly welcomes you allto the North Carolina School for the Deaf (NCSD) campus in Morganton for the 2017 South Regional Academic Bowl.

I am thrilled to write my irst letter as the Coordinator of Youth Programs Operations. he Academic Bowl is one of the programs that I currently oversee; I have fond memories of my past involvements with the Academic Bowl as Volunteer Coordinator (2009), Moderator (2014 & 2016), and Host Coordinator (2016). What makes the Academic Bowl experience special is for me to witness the bond developing amongst teams and between diferent schools. Also, for some of you, this may be your irst time seeing a new campus and being in a new state. I’m sure you will agree with me when I say NCSD is a beautiful campus! It is a given that you all will be added to the Gallaudet University Academic Bowl history book now that you are a participant! Each of you will create a book about your life and the Academic Bowl will be one of the chapters that you will oten reminisce about and share with others. It will be impossible toforget the buzzers, the challenging questions, the YES/NO cards held up by the Gallaudet University Oicers, the mascots that joined you during the 2nd round, and that exhilarating feeling that came when you and your team earned points for every correct answer.

Hats of to Dr. Audrey Garvin, Director of NCSD, and her team for opening their beautiful campus for us to use this weekend. Special thanks to Jimmy Autrey and Irlanda Mayo, host coordinators, and their amazing committee and volunteers for their commitment to planning this successful event for us to enjoy andremember. JoAnn Benield, Director of Gallaudet University Regional Center – South, and her staf did an awesome job working with the NCSD host committee and 20 teams to get them ready for the big event. Lastly, I am grateful to have an amazing team and for their support – Jesse Saunders, Andrew Morrill, Vivienne Schroeder, Lisa Jacobs, Tayla Newman, and Nikolya Sereda. heir hard work on many diferent projects helped make this Academic Bowl event possible. We commend and recognize all the players and coaches for the long hours of practices to prepare for the Regional competition. Good luck to everyone! Give it your all and you will leave NCSD a winner!
