Roo Theatre presents The Full Monty Roo Theatre celebrated its 25th birthday on Saturday 25th February with a special performance of the musical The Full Monty.
Now the public can also enjoy this hillarious comedy.
The Full Monty is directed by Roo Theatre’s founder Gordon Streek.
“With all the downturn in the local steel industry this show is particularly relevant”, Mr Streek said. “It has great music and good Aussie humour”. Based on the English film, the show tells the story of six unemployed Wollongong men—yes we have localised it—low on cash and prospects, who decide to present a strip act at a local club after seeing their wives' enthusiasm for a touring company of male strippers. To compete they threaten to go all the way, the full monty.
As they prepare for the show, working through their fears, self-consciousness and anxieties, they overcome their inner demons and find strength in their camaraderie. This show will have you rolling in your seats and crying the next.
Start off 2012 at the Roo Theatre celebrating 25 years of bringing you great theatre.
The Full Monty will be presented at The Harbour Theatre, Shellharbour, on:

KiamaThe coastal town of Kiama is said to gain it’s name from the aboriginal word Kiaram-a which when translated from the local aboriginal language “where the sea makes a noise”, is undoubtedly referring to the famous ‘Kiama Blowhole’.
There is a wide assortment of things to do and see in the Kiama area. Walking tracks ensure that you can visit the Lighthouse, Kiama Harbour and both the Main and Little Blowhole with ease. Fishing, beach swimming and exploring the rock pools are also great activities.
Some great cafes line the main street for those looking for a bite to eat and the Sandstone Terrace Shops make a great place to browse with friends.
The Kiama Terraces in Collins Street date from around 1886 and are now classified by the National Trust. Many of the historical buildings can
also be viewed and a top heritage walk leaflet is available at the Kiama Visitor's Centre.
Jamberoo Jamberoo was opened up for grazing in the 19th century and, at the time, much of the original rainforest was shipped out to Sydney as building material. Jamberoo was settled in the 1820's when it abounded in dense vegetation and rainforest. Jamberoo today is a small but quaint village and visitors will enjoy a leisurely drive out to the town past the rolling hills and countryside.
Jamberoo still houses many of the original churches and the schoolhouse with the local pub's age dating back to 150 years ago. Fredericks General Store in Allowrie Street can provide you with a local map should you need one.
Minnamurra Rainforest Reserve and Jamberoo Recreation Park are top
attractions in the area to check out and should not be missed when in the area. The rainforest reserve is home to abundant native wildlife and spectacular waterfalls whilst the Jamberoo Action Park is fun for the whole family!
What to See & Do■ Enjoy the many shops, boutiques and cafes. Check out the Kiama Terraces.■ Take a walk in the Minnamurra Rainforest or head to Illawarra Fly Treetop walk.■ Visit the famous Kiama Blowhole or to the Little Blowhole.■ Be thrilled at Jamberoo Action Park.

GerringongCleared by cedar cutters, Gerringong developed as a dairying village at the centre of rich pastures. More recently it has become a holiday town, popular with those who prize its beaches, glorious surroundings and proximity to Sydney.
A variety of great quality accommodation is available as well as many shops and cafes in the main street to enjoy. The local Crooked River Winery has beautiful wine to both purchase or enjoy with a meal in their cafe whilst overlooking the picturesque pastures of the winery.
Open on weekends, the Gerringong Heritage Museum is located in Blackwood St, displaying information about Gerringong’s interesting past.Gerringong is a picturesque town located between the pristine Pacific

Ocean and flourishing farmlands with an abundance of activities to while away a weekend!
Gerroa Gerroa is the closest town to Seven Mile Beach National Park, a grand and inspiring sweep of sand with an extensive dune system and a wealth of bird and mammal life.
Gerroa developed as a holiday town, although Seven Mile Beach had been used for horse racing as early as the 1860s. In 1933, aviator Charles Kingsford-Smith used this beach as the runway for his pioneering flight across the Tasman to New Zealand.
Gerroa offers easy access to several national parks and fine beaches as well as many of the prime attractions of the Illawarra, such as wineries, quaint country towns and historic attractions.
The award-winning Sea Vista Café
located in the heart of it all is a great stop over for that perfect cup of coffee whilst in the area.
What to See & Do■ Visit the Village Craft Shop - they have very affordable, handmade gifts.
■ Enjoy a walk along the beach at Werri or Seven Mile Beach, or try surfing at Gerroa.
■ Take a dip in the rockpools at one end of Werri Beach or the natural lagoon at the other, perfect for kids.

North Werri Lagoon – A Family Favourite
The Lagoon at North Werri Beach has become our family favourite lately - it covers all the essentials. With the lagoon entrance currently open to the ocean, the water has been pristine – a stunning place for my two year old to swim, and “whoosh” through the incoming current. After our swim we wrap up and climb the sand dune to try and spot Daddy in the surf. He has found a left hander and we watch him on some nice waves. Then there are castles to build, and rocks to explore.
We watch people on the costal walk from Kiama to Gerringong. It starts at Kiama Heights (Loves Bay) and finishes six kilometres later at the Werri Lagoon. This walk is definitely on my
list of things to do.
But for the mean time I will continue to laze on the beach and smile, witnessing some amusing reactions as people reach the end of their trek and realise they have a compulsory lagoon wade, for some this is obviously unexpected!

BerrySet amongst rolling green hills with the backdrop of the stunning Cambewarra range, its striking landscape is unparalleled. Berry, the first truly rural town south of Sydney is a country experience like no other.Dairying and logging on the coastal plain were the initial drawcards to the district but now the town is famous for its cafes, homewares and boutique shopping. The surrounding area is dotted with many boutique wineries of note and the restaurants and local gourmet food outlets should not be missed. If passive pastimes are not your thing – then Berry won’t disappoint you either. Berry has a wonderful assortment of quaint B & B ‘s that you can stay in when enjoying the area. The Apex Park in Berry is a great place to relax and enjoy a picnic after a pleasant day of shopping!
There is always something happening in Berry from the country markets on the 1st Sunday of the month, the Berry Show in February, the Musicale festival held throughout May and June or the beautiful Garden Festival in October.
Shoalhaven HeadsShoalhaven Heads is located at the southern end of famous Seven Mile Beach and its surrounding national park. The surf here is some of the best on the South Coast and the local surf life saving club provides beach patrols in the main holiday season.Accommodation in the area includes van parks, guest houses, homes to let, resort and motel styles. There are a number of dining choices, bowling and golf clubs and local stores. Lovers of all waters sports have access to both ocean and river front. Visit the Highlands for Brigadoon in AprilAustralia’s premier Scottish Gathering —Brigadoon—will again weave its magic, at Bundanoon in the Southern Highlands on 21 April.
Be prepared to have your blood stirred and spine tingled as the mist rolls back to the skirl of bagpipes and the village becomes Brigadoon for the day.
Once again, Highlander, Celtic Rock Band, is bringing its unique sound to the gathering. This five piece group has a unique sound which has been wowing audiences of all ages with their electrifying high-energy music.
The Street Parade starts at 9.30am and features 23 Pipe Bands from across NSW.
The Opening Ceremony begins at 10.30am on the Oval and the Gathering is officially opened by the Chieftain of the Day.
Spectators are treated to a spectacular Massed Pipes and Drums display of highland music. With the swirling of a myriad of coloured tartans and accompanying music that stirs the heart, it makes you proud to wear the Kilt of your ancestors.
At the Oval there are over 120 specialist stalls, selling everything imaginable, from Scottish pies to shortbread, from Clan memorabilia to souvenirs, with copious amounts of burgers, steaks and a variety of food promoting every nationality, even the Scots favourite “Haggis”.
Everyone is made most welcome at the gathering and encouraged to participate in the “Traditional” and not so “traditional” games.
Throughout the day enjoy Highland and Scottish Country dance demonstrations and Pipe Bands entertaining crowds with their individual styles of music and marching.
Heavy ChampionshipThis year the Brigadoon Challenge will again consist of three events.
1. Heavyweight Caber
2. Tossing the weight over the bar for height &
3. Throwing the weight for distance.
Using a points system the overall winner of these events wins the Brigadoon Challenge.
One of the main events of the day is the display of strength by David Hux.For more info visit www.brigadoon.net.au

The original inhabitants of Kangaroo Valley, the ‘Wadi Wadi’ people, shared the valley with kangaroos and other native species. In 1840 a local pastor declared “This valley takes its name from the numerous kangaroos which abound here”.From the early part of the 19th century, cattlemen like Richard Brooks and Cornelius O’Brien acquired extensive landholdings in the valley. They were followed by Irish settlers who, to the delight of their neighbours, brought with them their “moonshining” skills.Gradually more settlement took place and a patchwork of small farms spread out as far as the escarpments, mainly concentrating on dairying activities. In 1977 the pleasant ambience of the entire valley and village was recognised by the National Trust. An outstanding feature of Kangaroo Valley is the Hampden Bridge across
the Kangaroo River with its impressive castellated sandstone towers. Opened to coach and cart traffic in 1898, the bridge was named after the then Governor of New South Wales, Lord Hampden. While visiting Kangaroo Valley make sure you call in at the Pioneer Farm Museum, a time capsule of life as it was 150 years ago.Kangaroo Valley is both pretty and dramatic – remnants of rainforest cling to the steep escarpment, while the Kangaroo River and small creeks criss-cross the valley. Here you can enjoy the ideal ingredients of a short break – cafés, galleries, pubs, cabins in the bush and bushwalks. Kangaroo Valley Pottery located in the main street is a great place to pick up some local pottery and landscape artworks.

Have you seen the Green Kangaroo?Kangaroo Valley is widely regarded as one of Australia’s leading eco responsible tourist destinations and the Kangaroo Valley Tourism Association is working hard to keep it that way.
So that people can continue to enjoy the pristine natural beauty and country charm of this area for generations to come, the Kangaroo Valley Tourism Association is using a Green Kangaroo symbol to indicate tourist operators who are participating in the ‘Becoming Carbon Neutral’ program.
Participating members are auditing their CO2 footprint, reducing their energy use and offsetting greenhouse gases so that your visit has minimal impact on the environment.
The Green Kangaroo is just the latest of many eco responsible practices introduced by tourism operators to protect and preserve the environment.
Kangaroo Valley was the first plastic
bag free town in mainland Australia—an initiative proudly supported by many local tourism operators—and the association is supporting nature and heritage projects to preserve the area’s beautiful environment and historic structures.
Visitors can make a valuable contribution to these initiatives through direct financial support, by choosing participating operators and by driving less and enjoying walking and cycling while in Kangaroo Valley.

The regional centre of Nowra, situated on the beautiful Shoalhaven River, is a bustling town which contrasts the pleasant laid back lifestyle enjoyed by locals. The broad Shoalhaven River offers a number of recreational possibilities such as fishing, boating and river cruises. Nowra is also a base for local adventure tour operators and options include canoe trips and skydiving.
Nowra has a number of historic buildings and houses dating from the Victorian era. Heritage walks and other information can be picked up from the local Visitors Centre.
One of the cultural delights of Nowra is nearby Bundanon, the rural property of the late Arthur Boyd which he gave to the nation to be used as a retreat for artists. Along with the district's many wonderful natural attractions, Nowra
itself provides an extensive selection of entertainment for all ages. Live entertainment is found at local clubs, hotels, halls and schools. Cinemas offer the latest releases and touring circuses pitch their colourful big tops throughout the year.
The Fleet Air Arm Museum celebrates links with the aviation industry with a display of military and civil aircraft- it is well worth a visit. You can also explore Meroogal a historic timber gothic-style house with one of the most authentic 19th century interiors in NSW.
Terara Original historic town with buildings dating back to 1850’s. The area is a prime agricultural region with great fresh local fruit and vegetable shops to buy local produce from. Use Millbank Road to cut through to Pyree and closer to the beach.
What to See & Do■ Visit Gradys Riverside Retreat in Burrier - you can hire a canoe and explore the Shoalhaven River.
■ Picnic at one of the pretty parks located on the outskirts of Nowra and at Bomaderry (just north of Nowra).

Memories and Music – at BundanonBundanon Trust will be a memorable place to visit this March. The latest exhibition From The Archive is a photographic history of the properties of Bundanon, Riversdale and Eearie Park, and the many locals who lived and farmed there.
This exhibition also offers a rare insight into the private life of the celebrated artistic Boyd family.
Also featured this month is an afternoon of guitar virtuosity on Sunday 18 March at Riversdale, with
Rupert Boyd and Jacob Cordover - The Australian Guitar Duo. This highly acclaimed duo is becoming recognised as one of the most dynamic and exciting guitar ensembles on the music scene. Of a special
significance is Rupert’s relation to Arthur Boyd. This Riversdale event will be a tribute to the artistic giftedness of the Boyd family.

Grow your business and love the lifestyleWhether you ‘re looking for a sea or tree change or to grow your business or professional career in a natural and family-friendly environment, the Shoalhaven is a real alternative.
The Shoalhaven offers incredible business opportunities. With a population of over 100,000 it is one of Australia’s fastest growing regions.

Now you can make the move a little easier thanks to the NSW Government’s Regional Relocation Grant Scheme, which provides a one-off payment of $7,000 to assist with relocation costs.
For more information about the scheme, visit www.newlifensw.com.au .
Shoalhaven Council’s Economic Development Office will help you relocate, start or expand your business or to invest in the Shoalhaven.

HopDog to release new season beers The South Coast’s newest micro brewery, HopDog BeerWorks, will launch its second range of seasonal beers this month, boasting new and creative flavours.
Owner Tim Thomas and wife Tess have developed three new recipes to complement the foods more commonly eaten during cooler months:
Alluvial Peach - brewed using peaches from the Arulean region of NSW and aged in French Oak barrels; an age-old method more common in wine production.
Ham on Rye – a complex golden ale brewed with smoked German Rauch malt and hint of rye, giving an aroma of cracked pepper, smokey bacon and taste described as ‘a bacon sandwich in a glass’. This autumnal ale promises a dry finish and assertive taste.
Coffee Pants – a strong dark coffee stout beer made by adding organic fair-trade coffee at two separate occasions during the fermentation process. Tim says this is a beer coffee lovers shouldn’t miss.
Stout is a style of ale, just bigger and darker than it's paler cousins.
The new range’s release marks a milestone for the 200 litre nano-brewery that only commenced operation in mid 2011.
The new beers will be released at a launch event on 25 March from 11am-2pm in the brewery tasting room.
There will be a brewery tour at 11am followed by the launch and tastings.
To complement the flavours of the new beers, a professional barista will operate on site while bacon and egg rolls are cooked on a barbecue.
The new beers and all-season ranges will be available to purchase in standard bottles and 2-litre refillable bottles, called growlers. Standard bottles come complete with HopDog’s trademark bright green caps!
HopDog BeerWorks Brewery Door opens for tastings and sales on Friday 10am-6pm and on Saturday, Sunday and Monday 10am – 4pm.
For more information see HopDog’s ad on page 21, visit www.hopdog.com.au, find them on Facebook or call 0428 293 132.

This month, we caught up with Andrew Heffill, owner of The Butterfactory Restaurant and the Woodbox Cafe...
Who taught you to cook? My mum and nanna.
What inspired you to become a chef and restaurant and cafe owner/operator?I like food. I like everything to do with food. I enjoy meeting people and the social nature of the industry. I couldn’t think of anything else I’d rather be doing.
Do you have a philosophy on food?‘Fresh is best’ and ‘if it’s not perfect, don’t serve it’. Food has got to be fresh and visually appealing. I serve food that I like and that I hope others like too. If it’s made with local ingredients: even better.
What are three things in your kitchen you can’t live without? My dishwasher, a good knife and good kitchen staff.
What was your most memorable meal?A meal at La Trianon restaurant in Darling Point, Sydney. It was my sister’s 21st birthday and I was a teenager. It was the most amazing place I’d ever seen and it had an impact on me going into the hospitality industry. It showed
me what good hospitality can do for people. We still talk about that dinner as a family experience.
What is your typical breaky?A cup of tea and piece of toast. Every good day starts with a cup of tea.
What are you most proud of about the Butterfactory Restaurant and the Woodbox Cafe? That the Butterfactory is still here after six years and that people keep coming back because they enjoy it (people who came as guests are now friends) and how we support the local community.
We also do lots of weddings. It makes my day to give people good memories of such an important day.
What is your favourite dish from your menus? At the Butterfactory it’s our Seafood Tasting Plate. It’s a light and fresh entree, using local seafood. It’s delicious.
At the Woodbox Cafe, it’s the hamburger. I enjoy a good hamburger so we’re doing a fantastic burger there - you’ve just got to taste it!

Jervis Bay www.southcoastimag.com.au
Jervis Bay measures about 15 km from north to south and about 10 km across. The main town is Huskisson, where you can enjoy dolphin and whale watching cruises, fishing trips and boats, but it’s the natural beauty of the area that seduces. Other towns in this area include St Georges Basin, Sanctuary Point, Callala Bay and Beach, Myola, Vincentia and Hyams Beach.
The bay’s beaches are impressive - a series of scalloped coves bracketed by rock formations and backed by blackbutt, tea tree and mahogany forest. The bay’s sparkling waters, the underwater topography of arches, caves and rock stacks, and an impressive marine population make this one of the finest dive sites in the state.
At its southern end, Jervis Bay is enclosed by Booderee National Park, a
pristine coastal wilderness. From Wreck Bay village on Summercloud Bay in the park’s south, a walking trail circles the peninsula to St Georges Head, passing quiet beaches, cliffs and forests.
Huskisson is the location of many facililties including the Lady Denman Heritage Museum, as well as a variety of great cafes and shops to explore. Hyams Beach is surrounded by natural bush and is far enough removed from the ‘rat-race’ to be as peaceful a retreat as one can imagine with the added attractions of pure white sand and crystal clear water.
What to See & Do■ Go for a walk to St Georges Head, passing quiet beaches, cliffs and forests.
■ Feel the world’s whitest sand between your toes at Hyams Beach.
■ Take a dive or snorkel with local dive operator Crest Diving.
■ See the restored ‘Lady Denman’ ferry and the world famous heritage maritime museum at the Lady Denman in Huskisson.
■ Go for a walk around Cave, Green, Murrays or Steamers beach in the Booderee National Park. For more info call 4443 0977.

The Lady Denman Ferry Her Story – 100 YearsA little bit of history is good for us all! Catch “The Life and Times of the Lady Denman” exhibition before it finishes on March 11.
A new object of interest has been specially acquired for this exhibition - “The Lady Denman Master’s stool” - from one of her old captains.
A group of volunteers worked hard to collect photographs of her working life and plans, both of the ferry and of what might have been developed for her at the Denman. Also featured is a section of art inspired by the ferry.
Other attractions at the Lady Denman Heritage Complex include The Mangrove Boardwalk, The Marine Reserve, The Boatshed, Wirreecoo Wildflower Garden, and Visitor Information Centre.
Drop into the Lady Denman Heritage Complex today, see their ad on page 34 for details.

Lake Tabourie - CullendullaBawley Point - East Lynne - Termeil - Durras - Kioloa
Steamships were once built here at Bawley Point. Much of the timber used in the construction of these ships came from Termeil timber; a horse drawn train was loaded with logs and it clip-clopped its way into Bawley Point to be sawn by the timber mill, built in 1910, and at one time employing 72 men.
Visitors to Bawley Point or to neighbouring literary-sounding East Lynne can enjoy tranquil beaches, headlands and lagoons where the prawns are a local delicacy, in season. Much of the area here has been reserved as a sanctuary for wildlife.
Warm currents extend the swimming season with miles of quiet beaches and headlands fronting the south Pacific Ocean, which is studded with attractive small islands. Behind the coastline lie the lakes of Termeil, Meroo and Willinga, where vegetation and
picturesque views create an idyllic setting to the backdrop of Pigeon House Mountain. The district offers all kinds of fishing, surfing and swimming for all ages. For the bushwalker there are interesting paths to take through the bush or the Kioloa Forest. While in the district, seek out the small roadside cafes and shops where some of the walls and counters are thick with show awards for pies, rolls, cakes and other mouth-watering goodies - all produced in country kitchens.
Murramarang National ParkMurramarang National Park was created in 1973, with an area of 1970 hectares. The park was divided, into two sections north and south of Durras Lake, and included four offshore islands. In 2002 the park was increased to 11,978 hectares and now includes Durras Lake.
This park features beaches, rock platforms, spotted gum forests and rainforest gullies, surrounding the beautiful Durras Lake. The extensive forest in the park is home to many animals. Eastern grey kangaroos, swamp and red-necked wallabies can be seen at dawn and dusk when they feed. Stay in a caravan, cabin or tent and enjoy everything the park has to offer - from walking and picnicking to swimming and fishing. Don't forget to visit Murramarang Aboriginal Area.
Cullendulla Creek Nature ReserveThe reserve is on the northern shore of Batemans Bay and has beautiful views across to the Tollgate Islands. Explore the mangroves along a raised boardwalk. The unusual dune formations here are known as cheniers and are of great scientific interest.

Nowra Players present Eurobeat: Almost EurovisionThe Shoalhaven’s premier theatre group, Nowra Players, will present Eurobeat: Almost Eurovision from 17-31 March.
This is the hilarious parody of the widely known and successful annual Eurovision song contest.
Take a trip to Sarajevo where you will be part of it all! The show features performances from your favourite European countries and YOU get to vote each night for the winner!
Like one enormous and hilarious Eurovision party! Audiences have the power to decide which of the ten
competing countries will win so bring your mobile phone and your best or loudest friends and get set for the best night out you will EVER have!
You will be ‘transported’ to Sarajevo, which has somehow won the right to host this year’s competition. Each audience member will be assigned to one of the ten competing countries as they enter the venue – either with a sticker or branding with a hot iron on the forehead. (It doesn’t matter if you are from Bomaderry or Huskisson, tonight you are from the country you’re given, so get used to it!) Don’t forget - you can’t vote for your own country
although there is nothing to stop you bribing others.
The competing countries are:
ITALY, ESTONIA, ICELAND, UNITED KINGDOM, HUNGARY, RUSSIA, IRELAND, GREECE, GERMANY, SWEDEN
WARNING: Don’t wear mascara to Eurobeat
Tickets to Eurobeat: Almost Eurovision can be obtained from the Shoalhaven Visitors Information Centre. or by phoning 1300 662 808.
