South Bruce Peninsula Elections: Yellow Flyer

Election Warning We are facing a major obstacle in this very vital election. Certain Council members and candidates are pushing to get all trailer park renters in Sauble Beach registered to vote. They began by going to Woodland Park in Sauble where Mayor Close, Jay Kirkland, Jim Turner, Paul McKenzie, Karen Klages and Dan Kerr attended what was called an "All-Candidates Meet & Greet". Jim Turner organized it and only invited those 6 candidates. See the story in the Sept 2nd Wiarton Echo. They went with a box full of registration forms and some of them told the renters that they were qualified to vote and should register. This is a problem because by the Municipal Elections Act seasonal trailer park renters are normally not qualified to vote. They are being told that if they stay at the park for a minimum of 6 weeks per year, they get to vote! If these candidates are successful in getting around the rules then the 6,000 trailer renters in Sauble Beach alone could easily decide who runs your town for the next 4 years. Here's how they did it; When Council turned down the Paid Parking program, they rejected a bid by Councillor Jackson to give a free pass to every taxpayer plus reduce the cost to tourists to $10 per day. With the beach costing over $300,000.00 to maintain, it's only fair to ask the tourists to pitch in and help cover the costs. All taxpayers would get a free pass which they could lend to their friends and family who visit. How could the majority of Council say NO to that? It's now crystal clear why they did it. At the trailer park, campers are apparently being told who to vote for "if you want to continue free parking". The campers don't care about taxes, they pay rent for their few months of the year. It's not their taxes that could go up with free parking for tourists, it's yours! And who knows who will own the beach next summer anyway? But they're buying it. They're registering. Is appears the Councillors who voted against paid parking threw every taxpayer to the dogs in an attempt to get re-elected. Should the Sauble Beach trailer renters dictate who's going to run your town? Some of these candidates are going to each campground trying to pick up votes. Just look and see whose signs are on campground lawns. It appears that the council members forced the total cost of beach maintenance on you in order to try to get re-elected. It's disappointing that Dan Kerr joined this group. Please don't let the trailer people over-ride your voice. Please get out and vote. If you normally vote, please make sure you're on the voters list. If you don't usually vote, please vote this time. Your voice is desperately needed. Vote for people who care about you! Please don't vote for anyone who would put their interests before yours in order to get re-elected! Paid for by candidates who are members of the Coalition for Ethical Elections.
