    OVER BLACK:

    Hell is repetition.

    - a famous author

    FADE IN:

    INT./EXT. UNKNOWN - 1977

    Darkness -- like space without the stars -- going on in everydirection. Deep silence fills it -- but only for a moment.

    Gradually, all around, the sound of a dog viciously BARKINGgrows closer -- louder.

    Suddenly, instead of moving forward, we've been movingbackwards, emerging from the eye of a black, male unbornBABY -- still in the womb -- floating within his mother'samniotic fluid -- waiting to be born.

    He stares at his TWIN BROTHER. The sound of the violent

    BARKING continuing to grow.

    EXT. BEACH -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    A huge black PIT BULL -- viciously barks downward atsomething, snarling and biting at the air, saliva drippingfrom jagged teeth.

    A terrible storm drenches the dog as unnatural lightningcrashes down from a black sky. Dark clouds swiftly circleover head. Waves violently rushing onto the beach from aninfinite, dark ocean.

    The dog barks with others into a huge ten foot deep by fifteenfoot wide hole. Five muscular black horses, strapped withthick ropes, strain, trying to pull something out.

    Their hooves repeatedly slam into muddy ground, trying toget traction, fighting against the weight of somethingmassive.

    Numerous WORKERS in white turbans and dirty robes workfrantically, pulling up troughs of dirt and mud, screamingand yelling back and forth in Latin. Among them: PIERRE' andRENE' LARRIOT, 70s, sickly-looking twins, stand motionless,

    waiting, unfazed by the storm.

    A soaking wet WORKER screams from the depths of the hole.

    WORKER(in Latin)

    It is uncovered!

    Rene' steps forward and descends down a rope.

    2.

    HOLE

    Rene's boots splash into deep mud, sinking as he walks slowlyaround a huge, half-buried BLACK STONE STATUE wrapped inropes. It's carved into the form of a full-size naked manwrapped in chains.

    Ropes tied around it constantly try to pull it free. Rene'snatches a flaming torch from the Worker.

    RENE'(in Latin)

    Get back!

    He lowers the torch close to the statue's face. It'sterrifying. A permanent oversized grin showing clearer witheach flash of lightning.

    ABOVE

    Chaos: the dogs are in a rage, barking and whimpering downat the statue. The horses buck, trying to brake free of

    their ropes. Workers fight to calm them to no avail.

    HOLE

    Rene' looks up.

    RENE'(emotional, in French)

    It is here, brother!

    At that exact moment...

    INT. HOSPITAL, DELIVERY ROOM -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    Lightning flashes outside a window. A BLACK WOMAN struggleson a delivery table. A stomach too extended for only onechild. Her legs spread wide. Blood from her vagina soakingthrough white sheets.

    A DOCTOR and two NURSES try to deliver the male TWINS. Onealready half out of her womb.

    It looks dead.

    EXT. BEACH, HOLE -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    Rene' still looks toward the top of the hole...

    RENE'(in French)

    After all this time! All we havelost!

    INT. HOSPITAL, DELIVERY ROOM -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    Muted of sound, the Black Woman screams. The first malebaby already out -- its body: limp. The Second: its headcrowning.

    EXT. BEACH -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    Pierre' looks into a journal of many written words, maps and

    drawings. One page shows the sketch of a man wrapped inchains, an exact match of the statue in the...

    HOLE

    Rene', staring up -- toward his brother, looks past him --to the black sky above -- to lightning flashing among theclouds -- seeing something which overcomes him -- changeshim...

    RENE'(to himself)

    Horrific -- a horrific mistake...

    INT. HOSPITAL, DELIVERY ROOM -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    Still hearing nothing -- the second bloody Baby slips out.This One screaming. The Nurses work frantically, trying toget the first Baby to breath.

    The Doctor screams at the Nurses. The Black Woman isconvulsing; crimson blood flowing between her legs. TheNurses try to hold her. The Doctor injects a needle intoher arm.

    EXT. BEACH, HOLE -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    Rene' turns back to the statue, shining his torch --

    RENE'We must rebury it --

    BUT BEFORE HE CAN MOVE, A BLACK COBRA RAPIDLY STRIKES HISFACE.

    RENE'(grabbing the snake)

    Aaahhh!

    PIERRE'(in French)

    Rene'!

    RENE' falls back, slamming into the mud. Workers scramble,trying to climb out of the hole.

    INT. HOSPITAL, DELIVERY ROOM -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    The Doctor and Nurses frantically continue trying to savethe hemorrhaging Woman...

    EXT. BEACH -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    Pierre' quickly draws a revolver and shoots into the...

    HOLE

    The head of the cobra explodes. Rene' lies dead against themuddy ground. Rain washing blood from his bitten eye.

    INT. HOSPITAL, DELIVERY ROOM -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    The Black Woman is dead. Her first delivered Baby, stillnot crying, lies next to his twin Brother who continues toSCREAM.

    EXT. BEACH, HOLE -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    On his knees, Pierre' cries, holding his dead brother in hisarms. He SCREAMS as rain washes over them.

    PIERRE'Aaahhh!

    We slowly move from them -- across the wet, muddy ground,stopping at the half buried statue. Its face becoming clearerin the darkness. We move closer -- continuing to hear Pierre'CRY -- his SCREAMS.

    Now, face to face with the statue, a flash of white lightningshows us its terrifying grin -- its unsettling happiness.

    It disappears, fading into the darkness.

    EXT. CITY -- NIGHT - 2013, THIRTY-SIX YEARS LATER

    A fierce storm rages. As far as the eye can see, raindrenches every towering building. Random lightning makingthem visible.

    A blinding streak accompanies CRASHING thunder -- SHAKINGthe very foundation.

    EXT. ALLEY -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    A drunken VAGRANT, soaking wet and filthy, staggers down thedark, trash filled alley. Long, wet dreadlocks hiding hisface.

    Rain pours down on him as if to drown him where he stands.He searches for shelter, finding it in an...

    5.

    INT. ABANDONED BUILDING, HALLWAY -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    Gutted. Garbage and debris. Windows broken. Strong windshowling passed jagged glass as the Vagrant stumbles throughthe deep, black corridor.

    It leads to a larger, open...

    MAIN ROOM

    Filled with I-beams and dripping pipes.

    The Vagrant stumbles, looking at the rotted ceiling above.He finds a corner and sits. Mumbling to himself, he looksaround.

    He reaches into his filthy coat, pulling out a wine bottle.Twisting off the cap, he prepares to drink, but stops.

    With the bottle inches from his lips, he listens -- hearingsomething -- unsure of what it is. He gazes into the darknesssurrounding him.

    He gets up, continuing to try and hear, staggering toward adark corner of the room. He stops, staring into theblackness.

    What he hears: a sound like TEETH -- CHATTERING RAPIDLY --as if something was freezing.

    He continues to stare into the corner, seeing nothing butblack, then slowly, the sound grows louder -- closer.

    What hides in the darkness stares back -- slowly swaying --moving forward -- still sounding like it's freezing to death --its breath showing -- its thick drool dripping on the floor.

    The Vagrant tries to focus through wild dreadlocks, wantingto see what it is.

    Finally, he does...

    VAGRANT(softly, terrified)

    No.

    Frozen, the vagrant uncontrollably urinates, watching what's

    in the darkness step forward.

    The Vagrant stumbles back -- then turns and runs as fast ashe can to get away.

    He tries to get to the hallway, but can't. What chases him,forces him to push through an exit door.

    6.

    STAIRWELL

    Stairs spiraling up to the roof. The Vagrant doesn't stopfor a second, using his hands and feet to climb the metalstairs. He can't scream loud enough...

    VAGRANTGod, please!

    His voice echoes -- but no one hears.

    TOP FLOOR

    The Vagrant slams through a rusted door in his path.

    ROOFTOP

    He doesn't stop. Downpouring rain beating relentlesslyagainst him. He hears what chases him SLAMMING through thedoor behind him. He doesn't look back.

    Sprinting straight for the edge of the roof, he jumps twenty

    feet to the other building.

    EXT. ABANDONED BUILDING 2, ROOFTOP -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    The Vagrant's body slams hard against the wet, stone wall.His feet kicking and scraping for a foot hold. As he hangson the slippery ledge, seconds away from falling fifty feetto his death...

    EXT. ABANDONED BUILDING, ROOFTOP -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    Whatever was chasing him, watches him struggle -- theneffortlessly jumps across.

    EXT. ABANDONED BUILDING 2, ROOFTOP -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    Rain smashes against dreadlocks, still hiding most of theVagrant's face. He slowly looks up, staring at something wecan't see. Something bringing terror.

    As its teeth continue to CHATTER, it stares down -- toweringover the Vagrant -- waiting. THE VAGRANT LETS GO OF THELEDGE, BUT DOESN'T FALL FAR. WHATEVER IT IS QUICKLY SNATCHESHIM BY HIS DREADLOCKS, LIFTING HIM BACK UP.

    The Vagrant kicks and screams as he's raised directly infront of his assailant. A large, metal ventilation structureblocks the appearance of what holds him.

    Rain and thunder drown out everything around... all exceptthe answer he screams:

    VAGRANTYes!

    With a blinding flash of white light, everything fades.

    EXT. SUBURBAN NEIGHBORHOOD -- NIGHT

    The storm rages on. Power is out all over the neighborhood.A beautiful white, two-story house shines through thedarkness. With every flash of lightning, we move closer.

    A lightning flash shows the name on the mailbox: WESTON

    EXT. WESTON'S HOUSE, FRONT YARD -- NIGHT - CONTINUOUS

    A jet-black Mercedes Benz C300 Sedan sits in the driveway.Both house and car are nothing out of the ordinary, until --TWO POLICE PATROL CARS -- RED AND BLUE LIGHTS FLASHING --SPEED UP TO THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE AND SLIDE TO A STOP.

    CURB

    Two POLICE OFFICERS jump out of each car -- full rain gear --running up a narrow walkway to the front door.

    FRONT PORCH

    An SENIOR OFFICER reaches the front door first -- rapidlybanging on the door -- trying to scream above the deafeningstorm --

    SENIOR OFFICERThis is the police! Open the door!

    He waits, trying to hear a response. He bangs again. Thethree other Officers crowd around.

    SENIOR OFFICER(more forceful)

    Open the door!

    Nothing. He steps back, looking at the dark windows of thehouse, then at the other Officers. He quickly pulls hisgun, shoots the lock and forces the door with his shoulder.

    INSIDE, FOYER

    It's completely dark. Lightning flashing through windows.No noise. No movement. The officers quickly draw theirweapons, pulling out flashlights to see.

    SENIOR OFFICERThis is the police! Is anyone inthe house?!

    Thunder and lightning answer him -- crashing louder --flashing brighter.

    Looking on edge, the Officers prepare themselves.

    SENIOR OFFICERWe'll check upstairs.

    The Officers split into pairs. The Senior Officer signalswith his flashlight for a ROOKIE OFFICER to come with him.They both go up a wooden staircase in the center of the foyer.

    The THIN OFFICER and TALL OFFICER head toward the livingroom.

    SECOND FLOOR, HALLWAY

    The Senior Officer looks down the hallway. His flashlightilluminating expensive oil paintings, round tables and vasesfull of flowers. Nothing out of place. Nothing damaged.

    The Rookie Officer stays close, checking behind them. Hisflashlight unsteady. Its beam hitting different closed doors.

    They both walk toward one of the bedrooms. The Rookie Officersmells something horrible and stops. Shaking his head fromthe stench, he places the back of his hand to his nose.

    ROOKIE OFFICERWhat is that?

    (shaking his headagain)

    Fuck!

    SENIOR OFFICERI don't know.

    They keep moving slowly toward the bedroom door. Gunsleveled. They notice the door isn't closed, but isn't openenough to see inside.

    They each take a side -- their eyes watering from the horribleodor. The Senior Officer nods his head once, then swiftlykicks the door open. They rush in.

    BEDROOM

    The Senior Officer takes one step in and immediately slips.His back slams hard against the carpeted floor. They bothhear a SPLASH.

    SENIOR OFFICER

    What the...?

    His flashlight lies by his side, shining on what he slippedin. Dark, red blood -- almost black. A naked leg lying nextto him. Severed mid-thigh. Jagged, red-covered bone andmuscle exposed.

    The Senior Officer grimaces at what he sees. The RookieOfficer looks straight ahead -- like he's in shock. Hisflashlight frozen forward, shining deeper into the room.

    ROOKIE OFFICER(a whisper)

    God in heaven.

    He drops his flashlight and violently vomits.

    FIRST FLOOR, KITCHEN

    The Tall Officer enters, looking around. His flashlight

    shows everything's in its place. The entire room is spotless.Chrome pots and pans hang motionless as the flashlight's beamshines across them.

    FIRST FLOOR, HALLWAY

    The Thin Officer slowly walks down the narrow passage. Hisflashlight shining across the wooden floor, up the walls andfarther ahead.

    His flashlight hits a piece of white cotton material stickingfrom underneath a small closet -- soaked in RED. He walksup to the closet, continuing to shine his light on the cloth.

    He quickly looks back down the dark hallway, seeing no lightfrom his partner. He looks back at the door -- the cloth --deciding...

    The Thin Officer readies his gun. With an unsteady hand, hereaches out, grabbing a brass doorknob -- quickly pulling itopen.

    With his gun ready to fire, he finds TONYA WESTON, 62, plain,half her face heavily splattered with blood -- covering herhair -- in her mouth.

    She rocks back and forth like a scared child. Her kneespulled tightly to her chest. With tears in her eyes, shedoesn't acknowledge his presence.

    THIN OFFICERMrs. Weston?

    She doesn't respond.

    THIN OFFICER(down hallway)

    Torres in the hall!

    He looks back at Mrs. Weston, kneeling down.

    THIN OFFICERMrs. Weston? Can you hear me?

    The Tall Officer (Torres) runs up on them, getting a goodlook at Mrs. Weston.

    TALL OFFICER(under his breath)

    Shit.

    THIN OFFICERRadio, Mitchel.

    The Tall Officer (Torres) quickly pulls up his walkie talkie.

    TALL OFFICER(into walkie talkie)

    Mitchel, this is Torres. We thinkwe found the wife.

    Hard static.

    TALL OFFICER(into walkie talkie)

    Mitchel, did you hear me?! We thinkwe found the wife!

    The Thin Officer moves matted, bloody hair out of her face.

    THIN OFFICERCan you understand me? Are you hurt?

    Mrs. Weston still doesn't respond, continuing to rock backand forth, staring at the wall of the small closet. Tearssteadily running down her face.

    Then... her lips slowly move. She says something below awhisper. The Thin Officer struggling to hear her.

    TALL OFFICER(to Thin Officer)

    Something's wrong! Mitchel's not --

    THIN OFFICER(to Tall Officer)

    Shut up!(to Mrs. Weston,quieter)

    What? What did you say?

    She continues whispering -- crying. The Thin Officer leansin closer to her -- his ear to her mouth...

    THIN OFFICERYou said... ?

    Then, without warning...

    MRS. WESTON(screaming)

    Yes!

    Both Officers rapidly jump back. The Thin Officer slamminghis back against the wall across from the closet. The Tallofficer -- shaking -- his gun leveled to shoot her.

    Mrs. Weston breaks down, placing a hand over her bloodlymouth. Her voice lowering to a mumble...

    MRS. WESTON(weeping)

    I said yes... I said yes... yes...

    She continues to rock. Tears continue to flow.

    The Thin Officer remains on the floor with his back to thewall. Confused, he looks up at the Tall Officer for somekind of response. He doesn't get one.

    With a blinding flash of white light, everything fades.

    INT. BEDROOM -- NIGHT

    The sound of RAIN hits the windows. A tarnished gold wedding

    band on a man's black hand -- holding a recently used condom.

    JOHNATHAN REED, 36, bald, gray in his beard, sits on theside of a messed bed. He stares down at the carpet betweenhis rusty bare feet -- the wet condom in his view.

    He thinks about something -- something unpleasant. He looksto a trash can -- tosses the condom in.

    MARISSA LANGTON, 39, dark skin, her years showing, comesaround the bed in a skimpy night shirt. She sits next tohim, leaving space between them.

    Her eyes on his left hand. The wedding band.

    MARISSAIts been a long time since we'vemade love like that. I didn't knowhow much I missed it.

    Johnathan continues staring at the floor between his feet --then looks at her. Holding each others gaze, they both looklike they don't know how to talk to each other.

    A cell phone RINGS on the nightstand. She gets up and goes

    to the bathroom. The cell continues to RING. Johnathanpicks it up.

    JOHNATHAN(into phone)

    Yeah.

    He listens. His face gradually changing... saddening.

    INT. WESTON'S HOUSE, SECOND FLOOR, BEDROOM -- NIGHT -CONTINUOUS

    Johnathan stands at the doorway, taking it all in, staringat the remains of what used to be a man -- THOMAS WESTON,64. A head and part of a red-covered torso lie face down ona bed. Everything below his waist is gone. All of hisinsides showing.

    Thunder crashes as Johnathan gazes around -- splattered bloodand jagged body parts thrown throughout the room.

    Flashlights shine everywhere as a POLICE PHOTOGRAPHER snapsclose-up pictures of body parts on the bed.

    Every flash of the camera gives Johnathan a different view.His expression shows disbelief -- disbelief of a murder asgrotesque as this.

    A TIRED OFFICER tries to get passed him.

    TIRED OFFICER

    Evening, Detective. Jack the Ripperwould of puked if he found this guy.

    He steps around Johnathan and walks out. Johnathan doesn'tmove from the doorway -- as if he can't enter.

    CAPTAIN RICHARD DORSEY, 52, stocky, glasses, walks up toJohnathan with homicide DETECTIVE MIKE ROLANS, 38, weary.

    DETECTIVE ROLANSI'm sorry, John.

    CAPTAIN DORSEYWhy don't you wait downstairs.

    JOHNATHANNo.

    Johnathan composes himself, taking a step inside.

    JOHNATHAN(to Dorsey)

    What happened?

    Dorsey struggles to answer...

    CAPTAIN DORSEY... I don't know. Your mom's safe,though. We have a guard on her atHillcrest psych ward until we findout what's goin' on. They took herright after they found her.

    JOHNATHAN(solemn)

    They told me downstairs.

    They all move closer to the bed, trying to avoid blood andflesh on the carpet. Johnathan slowly looks around, seeingindividual body parts outlined in chalk throughout the room.

    He looks to the bed -- to the mutilation -- pain covering

    his face. Captain Dorsey walks up to JACK MENTA, 48, aforensic technician needing a new life.

    CAPTAIN DORSEY(solemn)

    No jokes tonight, Jacky?

    Jack just stands there, surrounded by a sea of disgustingvisions.

    JACKCan't think of anything funny. Ijust wanna walk away from this shit,

    forever.

    CAPTAIN DORSEYWhat would that change...?

    Dorsey slowly looks around...

    CAPTAIN DORSEYYou'd always have the memories.

    Johnathan still stares at the ravaged torso on the bed.Jack steps close...

    JACKHey, John.

    JOHNATHANJack.

    JACKHeard you knew him.

    JOHNATHANMy father... adopted father. Hetook me and my brother in... him and

    his wife.

    JACKSorry you have to see him like this.

    All of them looking...

    JOHNATHAN(solemn, to himself)

    Who would do this to him? Why wouldthey...?

    JACK"How could they?" I've never seenmutilation like this before.

    JOHNATHAN(to anyone listening)

    Where was my mother?

    DETECTIVE ROLANSFound her downstairs hiding in acloset -- blood all over her. Shewas in shock, couldn't say much.

    JOHNATHAN(to Rolans)

    Did she see this?

    Rolans looks like he doesn't want to answer.

    JOHNATHAN(more direct, to anyone)

    Did she see it?!

    DETECTIVE ROLANSI think she did. From the way shelooked, she was probably in herewith him.

    Johnathan looks to the head of the bed, stepping closer. Heraises a flashlight, pointing it above the headboard. Crimsonhandprints smear the wall above it.

    DETECTIVE ROLANSLooks like he was tryin' to get away.A suitcase full of his clothes areover there on the floor.

    A suitcase lies open against a wall. Clothes sprawled aroundit.

    JOHNATHANWas this a break in?

    DETECTIVE ROLANSNo forced entry. We're still checkingthe house for prints.

    Johnathan shines a flashlight on Mr. Weston's head. It liessideways. The eye sockets: dark -- hollow.

    JOHNATHANWhere are his eyes?

    JACKWe haven't been able to find 'em.

    Jack pulls off a pair of thin rubber gloves.

    JACK(to Johnathan)

    But that's far from the strangestthing.

    Jack walks toward the opposite corner of the room, staringdown at the carpet. Johnathan moves to the corner. A shortstationary light shines down.

    Jack says nothing, looking at a burn in the carpet. A large,five-pointed star within two circles. Five feet in diameter --big enough for all four men to stand inside of.

    JACKIt's flawless.

    JOHNATHAN

    (beyond confused)What kind of murderer takes the timeto do this?

    JACKThe same one that took the time todo this one.

    Jack raises his flashlight to the ceiling. It illuminates asecond burn. An exact duplicate of the one on the floor.They all stare up. There are no words.

    FRONT PORCH

    The storm has passed, but rain still falls. Johnathan standssilent, staring into the dark. Dorsey steps out the frontdoor, taking a drag off a cigarette.

    CAPTAIN DORSEYWhy don't you go see your mom, John?Laura and Drea. Get some rest.

    JOHNATHANJust needed a minute.

    There's a silent moment...

    CAPTAIN DORSEYI'm really sorry, John? We're gonnafind who did this. You know we will.

    JOHNATHAN... Yeah.

    Dorsey palms Johnathan's shoulder...

    CAPTAIN DORSEYIf there's anything...

    JOHNATHANI know.

    Dorsey doesn't know what else to say. He walks off the porch.

    Johnathan continues looking at the rain.

    Jack walks out the front door and stands next to Johnathan.He exhales hard, relieved to be outside.

    JACK(under his breath)

    Shit-shit-shit.

    They both gaze into the dark. Rain steadily trying to coverit.

    JACK... Do you think your mother had

    anything to do with this?

    Johnathan looks toward Jack...

    JOHNATHANMy mother?

    Jack, appearing lost in thought, still gazes out into thedark.

    Jack tightens his coat, walking off the porch. Johnathan'seyes following him...

    JACKAnd tell Dorsey I don't think they'regonna find a murder weapon.

    JOHNATHANWhy?

    JACK(stopping, lookingback)

    'Cause your father wasn't cut intopieces, John... he was torn.

    Jack flips up the collar to his raincoat, walking away,leaving Johnathan alone in the rain.

    EXT. HILLCREST MEDICAL FACILITY -- NIGHT

    The tower brick building stretches on forever. Light from a

    few random windows glow against the dark.

    Johnathan walks toward the front entrance.

    INSIDE, LOBBY - MOMENTS LATER

    Johnathan walks with DR. MERRIN JACOBS, 51, stress with age,toward an elevator. Dr. Jacobs pushes a button.

    DR. JACOBSWhen they brought your mother in,she was in deep shock. Unable totalk. No reactions to stimuli.

    The elevator doors open.

    SEVENTH FLOOR

    Elevator doors open. Johnathan and Dr. Jacobs step out.

    JOHNATHANHas she said anything?

    DR. JACOBSNo. One of the officers said she

    spoke when they found her. She hasn'tsaid anything since.

    They stop at a locked door. A guard posted outside, sittingin a chair. Dr. Jacobs pulls out numerous keys -- findingone. He unlocks the door.

    DR. JACOBSShe's been sedated to help her rest.

    JOHNATHANMay I go in alone?

    DR. JACOBSCertainly. But please, only for afew minutes. She's been severelytraumatized. Knock when you're readyto leave.

    Johnathan enters.

    MRS. WESTON'S ROOM

    The door closes loudly behind him. The room is small --white and gray pads covering the four walls.

    Only one metal framed bed decorates the room. Pushed at anangel into a corner.

    Mrs. Weston lies still in the bed. White sheets coveringher up to her neck. She stares at the ceiling. Lost deepinside her own mind.

    She looks thin -- old -- her hair: gray and coarse.

    Johnathan steps to the bed, looking at her. Hurt by herlying there.

    As he stands there, her eyes never leave the ceiling, neverblinking...

    JOHNATHAN(solemn)

    Mom... can you hear me, mom?

    No reaction...

    JOHNATHANIt's, Johnathan. I know it's been awhile... since you've seen me.

    He moves hair away from her face.

    JOHNATHAN(hesitant)

    I'm so sorry about, dad. But I'mglad you're all right... what

    happened, mom? Who did this?

    She does nothing.

    JOHNATHAN(leaning closer)

    Please, tell me who did this?

    Johnathan looks at her lying there -- staring off at nothing.

    He pulls up a side of the sheet by her hand, exposing it anda leather binding strap around her wrist.

    Johnathan takes her pale hand and holds it in his. Lightlysqueezing it. Pain shows in his eyes.

    JOHNATHANI'm gonna find who did this. Ipromise you.

    He holds her hand for a moment more, then covers it back up.He leans in, giving her a small kiss on her head and turnsaway from the bed.

    As he walks to the door, does he hear...

    MRS. WESTON (O.S.)(weak, in Hebrew)

    Apollyon.

    Johnathan stops, turning around, but Mrs. Weston looks thesame. Unmoving, comatose -- continuing to gaze at nothing.

    Johnathan looks unsure of what he heard, staring at hismother. He finally lets it go and KNOCKS on the door.

    HALLWAY

    Johnathan and Dr. Jacobs stand outside Mrs. Weston's door.

    DR. JACOBSWe'll do everything we can to helpher.

    JOHNATHANThank you, doctor.

    Dr. Jacobs walks off. Johnathan looks back at the door.

    MRS. WESTON'S ROOM

    Mrs. Weston lies still -- staring off. The whites of hereyes begin to change -- showing deep red veins.

    EXT. JOHNATHAN'S HOUSE -- NIGHT

    Johnathan's late model, black Trans Am pulls into the

    driveway. Its headlights go out. He gets out and walks toa side door.

    INSIDE, KITCHEN

    Johnathan walks in, closing the door behind him. In thedark, he sets his keys on a counter and flips on a lightswitch. A ceiling light illuminates the entire room.

    Immediately, Johnathan looks puzzled. He stares at thekitchen table. It's completely covered with EVERYTHING fromthe refrigerator. Perfectly and neatly stacked.

    He slowly takes off his coat, still staring at the table.He puts his wet coat on a chair, then walks to therefrigerator.

    Pictures of a smiling WOMAN, 34, and a happy young GIRL, 4,

    cover the door. He glances at them. The Woman in the pictureisn't the Woman he was with earlier.

    His hand reaches out, pulling the door open -- BUT TO HISSHOCK, HIS LIFELESS, BURNED-ALIVE, NAKED WIFE LIES INSIDE.HER BODY BURNT BLACK. HER DEFORMED FLESH CRACKED --SMOLDERING.

    Her open-wide eyes staring back at him. He trips backwardsaway from her...

    JOHNATHANGod, no -- Laura!

    He can't stop looking at her eyes...

    JOHNATHANLaura.

    Then quickly, something comes to him...

    JOHNATHANDrea. Drea!

    He bolts from the kitchen, rushing throughout the house,searching...

    He runs down the hall, throwing open bedroom doors. Nothing.

    He runs to a doorway, leading into the...

    BASEMENT

    He runs down narrow stairs into the dark. He reaches up fora thin string hanging by a naked light bulb. He pulls it,illuminating an unfinished basement, cement walls, dirt andconcrete floors.
