Song choiceFor this projected, I wanted to work alone and not join a group. The reason why I’ve made that decision was because I wanted to develop my skills when it comes to filming and editing a media product. In the end this was an advantage, as all the work was done by me and I was fully entitled to make changes when something did not match my expectations.

On the other hand, when it came to choosing a song, I was not as lucky as the other students in my class who divided themselves into groups. I could not use an original song as no one from my social circle is a singer. I knew that this might create a controversial, but I was aware that I have to contact the record label which works with the artist.

From the early beginning, I knew exactly which song fits the most with the music video idea that I had ‘Rather be’ by Clean Bandit. Even in the proposal is stated which song I would be using and explaining why I made that decision.

However, as I was half done with the research, the song was not as appealing as it used to be. As new tunes were received by me as a media consumer, the song did not look ‘up to date’. Neither the radios nor the TV channels play it anymore, meaning that the audience will rather watch a music video of a song which is constantly required and given by the media platforms.

My class had a music video screening. At that time, I did not finish the music video so I had to improvise with what I had. This is another reason why I decided to use a different song. ‘Sun goes down’ is an easy, simple and new song. The artist Jasmine Tomphson is also a new artist, who is well known for her song ‘Ain’t nobody’. I believe this song does help the shots to blend together nicely and create a story as my whole idea was to give the music video a cinematic effect.
