In a recent newsletter from the Missionaries of Africa (in the past known as the White Fathers), the report of the mission in Ouargia, Algeria caught my attention. Re- porting on the celebration of Easter the pastor, Fr. Jose, reports “In North Africa, our Muslim neighbors believe that God rescued their prophet Jesus before his crucifixion, that that there was neither death nor resurrection. For us Christians, it is the very fact that Jesus rose from the dead which enables us to believe in the infinite mercy of God who gives us that eternal life that awaits us.” It is incomprehensible to me that anyone would deny such a fact of history as the Crucifixion of Jesus! Even non-believers must know history. But then it helps to explain, to me, why the Muslims, on the whole, deny the Holocaust that murdered over 6 million Jews, Christians and others offensive to the Nazis mentality. Denial. A refusal to accept any truth that their Muslim mullahs have not proclaimed. In the teachings of their prophet Mohammed they claim ancestry from Abram. That would be via Ishmael, the first born from Abraham by way of his intercourse with his wife Sarah’s maid, Hagar (or Agar). Mohammed said that his work, known as the Koran (among other spellings) was done at the instruction of the angel Gabriel. It is reported that Gabriel said that the Jews and Christians had all gone astray. Could this be the same Angel Gabriel who announced to Mary that she would give birth to the Savior? Is now God saying that He made a mistake? Is this a great religion? Or one of many that have been made out of “whole cloth”. Far be it for me to dictate another’s religion. If they wish to worship a golden calf, an impressive leg, a block of stone, money or men from outer space that would be their right, and their problem. God has given us a free will, to accept, or reject. If we don’t like how Christianity has evolved over the past2000 plus years call God to task and make your own belief system, create your own god. At my age I am not about to challenge God’s plan, only the distortions that man has made of it to satisfy their own egos (to borrow from Freud). In this tumultuous world we continue to fail to see, or accept the fact that God is still the creator of all the universe, including our Earth. New discoveries are made on a daily basis. To me the greatest oxymoron is the proclamation that any science is settled; if settled, we must cease to explore (so no more science.) The other day an earth science specialist noted that as water tables are changed, by loss or addition of water, in the San Joaquin valley, the valley will sub- side (and has subsided) and the mountain ranges, Sierra Madre and Coastal, have ris- en. God’s Earth is still in motion through His creation. One day He may allow me to understand; in the meantime we may continue to be amazed by His Works and not bedazzled by human estimations as to what is to come. Some reflections By: Deacon Roy Murvin

In a recent newsletter from the Missionaries of Africa (in the past known as the

White Fathers), the report of the mission in Ouargia, Algeria caught my attention. Re-porting on the celebration of Easter the pastor, Fr. Jose, reports “In North Africa, our

Muslim neighbors believe that God rescued their prophet Jesus before his crucifixion, that that there was neither death nor resurrection. For us Christians, it is the very fact that Jesus rose from the dead which enables us to believe in the infinite mercy of

God who gives us that eternal life that awaits us.”

It is incomprehensible to me that anyone would deny such a fact of history as the Crucifixion of Jesus! Even non-believers must know history. But then it helps to

explain, to me, why the Muslims, on the whole, deny the Holocaust that murdered over 6 million Jews, Christians and others offensive to the Nazis mentality. Denial. A

refusal to accept any truth that their Muslim mullahs have not proclaimed.

In the teachings of their prophet Mohammed they claim ancestry from Abram. That would be via Ishmael, the first born from Abraham by way of his intercourse

with his wife Sarah’s maid, Hagar (or Agar).

Mohammed said that his work, known as the Koran (among other spellings) was done at the instruction of the angel Gabriel. It is reported that Gabriel said that

the Jews and Christians had all gone astray. Could this be the same Angel Gabriel who announced to Mary that she would give birth to the Savior? Is now God saying

that He made a mistake? Is this a great religion? Or one of many that have been

made out of “whole cloth”.

Far be it for me to dictate another’s religion. If they wish to worship a golden

calf, an impressive leg, a block of stone, money or men from outer space that would be their right, and their problem. God has given us a free will, to accept, or reject. If we don’t like how Christianity has evolved over the past2000 plus years call God to

task and make your own belief system, create your own god. At my age I am not about to challenge God’s plan, only the distortions that man has made of it to satisfy

their own egos (to borrow from Freud).

In this tumultuous world we continue to fail to see, or accept the fact that God is still the creator of all the universe, including our Earth. New discoveries are made

on a daily basis. To me the greatest oxymoron is the proclamation that any science is

settled; if settled, we must cease to explore (so no more science.)

The other day an earth science specialist noted that as water tables are

changed, by loss or addition of water, in the San Joaquin valley, the valley will sub-side (and has subsided) and the mountain ranges, Sierra Madre and Coastal, have ris-en. God’s Earth is still in motion through His creation. One day He may allow me to

understand; in the meantime we may continue to be amazed by His Works and not

bedazzled by human estimations as to what is to come.

As we begin the new Columbian year for the Knights of Columbus I want to thank all

the officers that also joined me for the second year in our Council. This past year went very well without too many problems. We will be having the Installation of Of-

ficers this month on Friday July 25th. This will be a potluck dinner and I would like

all the knights in the Council to attend. It is always a beautiful evening.

Prior to our Installation, our Council 5392 is hosting the Installation for the Ar-

rowhead Desert Valley Chapter on Saturday July 19th. This is a catered dinner and we will need to have about 8-10 knights to help serve the dinner and tend to the bar.

They expect have about 70 guests for this dinner. Cocktails approximately 6:00PM,

dinner 7:00PM.

The Ladies Appreciation Dinner we had in June was very nice. There were

about 48 guests attending. Hopefully we can get more knights and ladies at future

dinners.

The last activity for July will be a 1st Degree on Monday July 28th this is the 1st

degree for this new year.

July

Birthdays May each and every

passing year bring you

wisdom, peace and cheer.

God, Our Father, Giver of Life, We Entrust our Nation to your loving care. You

are the rock on which this nation was founded.

You alone are the true source of our cherished rights to life, liberty and the pur-

suit of happiness. Reclaim this land for your glory and dwell among your people.

Send your spirit to touch the hearts of our nation’s leaders. Open their minds to

the great worth of human life and the responsibilities that accompany human

freedom. Remind your people that true happiness is rooted in seeking and doing

your will.

Through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, patroness of our Land, Grant Us

the Courage to reject the “Culture of Death”. Lead us into a new millennium of life.

We ask this through Christ, Our Lord, Amen.
