Questions About the Catholic Church?

Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration This week as we reflect on the many things for which we are thankful, we might ponder this:

“Thank you for the birthday gift is not the same as Thank you for the gift of Life. Thank you for the bread we eat is not the same as Thank you for the Bread of Life. Thank you for a speedy recovery is not the same as Thank you for preserving my life. Thank you for saving my life is not the same as Thank you for giving up Your Life for me.” – Dorothy A. Smith

Consider setting aside One Hour each week to spend in the Divine Presence of our generous Lord. Call 657-888-4631 or write to [email protected] to schedule your special hour.

Happy Eucharist & Thanks be to God!

Eucharist/Thanksgiving Blessings to all families! Eucharist is a Greek word for “Thanksgiving.” We are a Eucharistic people! Begin celebrating Thanksgiving Day at 9:00 am Mass to truly show God our gratitude. Bring food, like bread & wine, to be blessed for your Thanksgiving table. Enjoy your family time together thanking God for His abundant blessings. Awaken daily with a grateful spirit. ”Lord, Thank you for another day of living and loving.”

NO CLASSES Thanksgiving week - November 20-24. Classes resume Nov 27 Spend family time sharing the Gospel Weekly & activities sent home.

Jesus’ Parable of the Talents teaches us to put our abilities at the service of the Master, God our Father. First, we need to discern our gifts. We all have been given special abilities by God. It’s up to us to figure out what those abilities are and how we can best develop them to use to build up God’s kingdom. When Jesus comes to call us at the end of our lives, to account for our love & holiness, we want to hear these words…. “Well done, my good and faithful servant…Come, share your Master’s joy.”

Home Visit Ministry Activity Update We hope everyone was able to come see our progress map on October 28-29. The Ministry is looking forward to reaching out to the rest of our parish community! October was another productive month for the Home Visit Ministry. We are blessed to

be of service to those in need, as this month, we were able to assist eight (8) of our fellow parishioners with prayer requests for their loved ones. With forty-five (45) homes visited last month, this is a notable increase, and we are grateful that we can offer them the comfort and strength of prayer. In addition, we were able to update sixteen (16) parish records, and to connect another parishioner with needed resources.

Home Visitation – Reaching Out to Our Own and Connecting the Dots! It’s never too late to become a part of this effort, and meet more of your fellow parishioners. Teams visit at least one group of five (5) homes each month on a day/time that fits their availability.

Contact Eldon at [email protected] or Susan at [email protected] for more details.

The parish Corazón ministry completed its final build of the year on November 4th, 2017. As usual, the day was filled with a lot of work, a lot of smiles, a lot of great fellowship, and even some tears (of joy) when the keys to the home were turned over to the family at the end of the day. This build would not have been possible without the generous contributions of time and talent (from the volunteers who went on the build) as well as the treasure donated by so many of you to make this happen. Thank you for stepping up -- again -- to make this a reality.

Our builds for 2018 will take place on May 5th, 2018 and November 3, 2018. If you'd like to go on either – or both – of these builds, please send an e-mail to Tim Garvey at [email protected] or Nick Van Hoogmoed at [email protected]. They will fill you in on what you need to do from there.

If you'd like to contribute to any future builds, please drop off a check made out to Corazón at the parish office. For each build, we have to raise $9,000 just for materials. Your generosity inspires us. Thanks again for your generous hearts. May God bless you and yours always. The Corazón Team - Mike Fitzpatrick, Tim Garvey, Mark Jablonski, Mike Reger, Nick Van Hoogmoed.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

Angel Tree Coming the weekend of 12/2-3 Choose a holiday wish for a local abused child of Crittenton Services. Return wrapped gifts (with tag attached) by Dec 10 to the church meeting room atrium. The elves need time to sort and deliver to more than 800 children. Questions, call Bev Berryman 714-680-9022 or email [email protected]. Thank you for your abundant blessings.

Come and fortify your spirits before you celebrate Thanksgiving!

WINGS (Women IN God’s Spirit), meets on Wednesdays from 8:40 to 11:00 am in St Martin de Porres Parish Hall. On November 22, we have our Annual Thanksgiving Tea, guests are welcome – just let your shepherds know. There will be no small group time – just ample fellowship time and a shortened presentation on Gratitude by Deacon

Community Life The Other SMdP Women’s Retreat is Dec 1-3 Even though we will have a retreat planned by and for St. Martin’s Women on April 27-28, 2018 at St. Martin’s, we are continuing to do our annual silent retreat at Mater Dolorosa in Sierra Madre. Each of these retreats is a very unique experience, and we encourage those who can do so to attend both. The annual silent retreat for women of St. Martin and surrounding parishes will be held Friday evening, Dec. 1 through Sunday noon, Dec. 3 at the Mater Dolorosa Retreat Center in Sierra Madre. This year’s theme is “Going Without Knowing: Pitching Our Tent in Faith.” Private rooms are available, and carpools will be arranged. Join the women of St. Martin as we enjoy a personal encounter with God through a balance of communal prayer, inspirational talks, silence and solitude, natural beauty and sacramental grace. This sacred time will bring renewal for your body, mind and spirit. Suggested donation is $250, with a non-refundable deposit of $50 due by Nov. 17. Contact Maureen Williams at 714-693-1931 or [email protected] or Suzanne Mills at 714-993-7868 or [email protected] for registration or details.

On Monday, November 27, the eve of the feast of St. Catherine Laboure, St. Martin de Porres Church is starting a perpetual Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal after the 6:30 pm Mass. The Novena will then be prayed every Monday evening. This Novena is a beautiful prayer that honors our Blessed Mother as well as offers us another way to lift our prayers and needs to her. Come join our parish community as we celebrate this Novena!

Altar Server of the Month Please join the Altar Serving Ministry in recognizing Grace Nogal as our Altar Server of the Month, for the month of October 2017. Grace has been a server for the Sunday 8:45 am Mass. This year she was chosen to be a senior server. She exemplifies leadership skills by guiding the newer servers during a mass. Grace continually learns and finds areas to improve. It goes unnoticed that she is willing to step up and serve as a substitute. It is our hope that servers who show this type of positive attitude will grace the ministry moving forward. Congratulations on your award, Grace, and thank you for your service at St. Martin’s.

Shari and Tom Vallejos have been the Box of Love (BOL) coordinators for the past 6 years. With heartfelt grati-

tude, we thank and bless them for their dedication to this ministry that helps feed the poor in our community. If you are or others you know are interested in leading this ministry or have questions, please email Gretchen Heyman at [email protected]. We’re looking for individuals and families who have some free time to work as a group gathering food in some local neighborhoods where the homeowners have been contributing to the Christmas CanTree Drive for the past 30 years. There’s no soliciting involved; it’s simply slipping on your tennis shoes, rolling up your sleeves and picking up grocery bags filled with food that people have left on their front doorstep. For more information, dates and times, please call, text, or email Jim Thomsen (parishioner) at 714-932-5176 or [email protected]
