    Te Iowa State University solar car team has been racing solar cars since the first Sunraycein 1990. Since then, the technology used and the name o the race have changed, butthe spirit has not; to design and build the solar car that can make the specified distance in the

    shortest amount o time, purely on solar power. eam PrISUm has participated in eleven racesand is the only team to produce and qualiy a new vehicle or every event since 1990.

    eam PrISUm is a student run, non-profit organization whose core mission is to educatestudents at all levels about engineering and the capabilities o renewable energy through anexciting, hands-on project. During each two-year project cycle, team members design, build, andrace a street legal vehicle powered solely by the suns rays. In addition to training the studentswho build the car, eam PrISUms successul outreach program educates thousands o people peryear about our innovative cars.

    Hands on Learning:

    We build a new solar car every two years because the two-yearproject puts its members at the oreront o technology throughresearch o the latest scientific advancements and the challenge ofinding ways to incorporate these technologies into the solar car.Our team develops real world skills beyond the classroom. As well

    as valuable engineering experience, the solar car team introducesstudents to business and public relation aspects.

    Award Winning:

    eam Prisum has continued to be one o the top teams in theUnited States in solar car racing. In 2013 we took third place at theFormula Sun Grand Prix and astest lap at 4:42 seconds. In 2012 we placed 2nd at both Formula SunGrand Prix and the American Solar Challenge. Also at the 2012 American Solar Challenge we recei

    both the Best Electrical & Mechanical Design awards.

    Outreach Program:

    eam PrISUm travels throughout the Midwest to elementary, secondary, and post secondaryinstitutions as well as numerous expos and various other events in the hopes o getting people exciteabout engineering and solar energy. In a two year project, the team typically presents the solar car toover 30,000 people.
