WHAT IS SPE Society of Petroleum Engineers

• An international professional organization which functions to exchange technical knowledge of exploration, development and production of oil & gas resources and associated technologies for professional development &

enhancing technical competence and offer great opportunities.• At year end 2012, SPE membership totalled 110,564, including more than

28,000 student members• It consists of 4,500 members in the UK

SPE- ABERDEEN SECTION BOARD

• SPE Aberdeen section has been active since past 39 years and will celebrate its 40 years of success in year 2014

• The SPE Aberdeen Board provides a focus, direction and strategy for the section

• The Board co-ordinates a number of committees, each has a chair and is made up of volunteers

Aberdeen Section- Committees • Continuing Education – the collective name for a series of event-specific committees that organise one and two day international

conferences or seminars. • Offshore Achievement Awards – the group which manages a high profile awards dinner now in its 28th year, taken over by SPE 3

years ago to help raise our profile. • Programme Committee – the group that organises our smaller events – evening and lunch meetings, socials and anything else

they feel like! • YP (Young Professionals) – the group that provides young professionals (under the age of 36) an opportunity to enhance their

technical and professional competence. • AP (Another Prospective) - the group that promotes diversity throughout our section and its activities. • Student Development - the group that encourages university and postgraduate students to pursue and develop a successful

career in the oil and gas industry. • Career Guidance – the group that reaches out to the whole school community in Scotland, mentoring, offering guidance, and

promoting careers in science, energy and technology • Membership – the group that serves our members directly with information, liaison, feedback and networking. • Communications – the group that manages the section’s public face – website, e-bulletins’, print, Facebook, PR....

• Treasurer - manages the Sections finances, including paying invoices received and raising invoices to receive monies

Young Professionals (YP’s)• The Aberdeen YP committee was founded to bring together people in an

atmosphere of education and fun.• It provides a strong combination of professional development, technical

learning, social networking and educational support

insight of the working industry

University Bursaries & Awards

• The SPE Aberdeen Section has long encouraged high standards of academic achievement among petroleum engineers by providing bursaries of £15000 to students studying petroleum engineering-related subjects

• The Section also subsidises the cost of transporting students from other Universities to attend its monthly and technical meetings in Aberdeen

• A new Award introduced this year- Best Faculty Sponsor to encourage faculty sponsor involvement
