Society Training Day

Remember, Society Training will take place on Monday 8th June from 9.15am to 5pm (don’t worry we’ve got breaks time tabled!)

This event will cover Health & Safety, Finance, Governance as well as a Team Building Session.

2 Committee members must attend each session. The Treasurer MUST attend Finance training or else the society will not have access to funding.

As stated in the Society Training Policy, a society can’t start any activity until all training has been completed.

You should have already submitted your Welcome Week events to the Societies Coordinator. If you haven’t done so yet, please send it across as a matter of urgency.

Please come talk to the Societies Coordinator after this Assembly if you have questions or concerns about this.

The dates and times of your events can’t be changed, so please ensure that you stick to them. In extreme circumstances where you must cancel an event, please ensure a committee members attends the meeting point to inform those that do turn up.

Societies House Executive

Who Are They?

The House Executive will be formed of one representative from each House. These representatives will be elected at the final meeting of the Societies’ Assembly from the pool of elected committee members for the following academic year.

What Do They Do?

Discuss and approve new society applications Discuss and approve upon society suspensions Discuss and decide which house a new societies should be assigned to Act as an advisory board to the Vice President Activities

Elections!

We will do an election for each house. Candidates are asked to come to the front and will be given 60 seconds to explain why they should be elected onto the committee.

Big Ideas

Big Ideas are the easiest way for you to submit ideas to your Students’ Union. These can be anything which could help to improve the student experience here at NTU. If you have any idea, big or small, about how NTSU can improve:

Then get them submitted!

You can also submit your ideas through one of our Assemblies, whichever one best fits the purpose of your idea. So for any society member wanting to submit a big idea – you could submit it here to this assembly. Once Submitted you can keep track of your Big Idea using the trentstudents.org website.

FACTSResidents don’t use the common rooms provided

IMPACTSIf the common rooms were used by the majority of residents on a regular bases, it would build a better community atmosphere and enhance the student experience

REACTSThe accommodation provider to allow residents to share ideas on how to redesign the common rooms, and implement the ideas swiftly

VP Activities Report & Questions

SocietiesUpdated Societies code of Practice to make it a more student friendly document as well as a document that reflects the growing nature of societies. Created Policy papers so that Societies Assembly now has a say in how societies are run.

RAGRaG week – held more smaller scale events which saw a higher level of attendance, clubs and societies also got involved and the overall total for the week came to

Other Work 21st Century University Research – Officers and staff at the Union produced a report on what students thought a 21st century university should be. Produced in a fun interactive way – University has taken this feedback on board and has used it in their own strategic plan
