After 10 years of working in social media and studying thousands of posts that performed well and many that didn't... I've put together a quick guide to help you know exactly what types of posts work on social media...and WHY they work. The best tip I want to give you with your social media marketing is to remember - the objective is NOT to collect likes and followers. The objective is to create relationships and build a community. This means you have to be social on social media and engage with them. Talk to them. Ask questions. Don't make it just about BUSINESS...make it about providing value. Funny & humorous content on social media performs really well. It creates a good feeling for people and they want to share that. Look for ways to introduce humor to your audience and see the response. When people like interacting with your brand - they'll be more inclined to interact with other types of content like promotions and offers.

Ask your audience questions! Get their feedback on your biz, products, ideas. Simply - just talk to them. They are eager to participate and give you their input. Asking questions improves your engagement rate. The more engagement you get - the more engagement you'll get on your next post.

It's simple, quotes work. You might be thinking they don't or maybe they won't work for your audience but trust me - the reason you see so many of them..is because they WORK. The idea is to use quotes and sayings that are relevant to your audience. Look for ones that provide value to your audience. That they will WANT to engage with. Quotes are EASY for people to engage with so it's good content to share to help you maintain post consistency, stay active and in the newsfeed and get your audience familiar with your brand. Similar to quotes or questions - you want to mix up your content . That means you can't just post graphics - you want to throw a text status in to the mix. These can be quotes, tips, statements, humor, questions , even promotions and offers. The idea is to appeal to different audiences as much as possible. Some will interact with text only statuses, some will interact with graphics, some only with video. So MIX IT UP.

You want to send traffic to your website? You have to post links to your website! Articles are a great, non-promotional way to drive traffic to your website. You can also post links to your products or programs, even a shop if you have one. One thing to keep in mind here, and the reason I posted the image above is to show you how it's likely that you'll get less "vanity" engagement on a link post. We got 17 likes on the post...but 96 link clicks. You may not see a lot of likes or comments...but you will see "LINK CLICKS" which means - the action people take on a link is most likely going to be a click to your website - and THAT is what you want!

Holiday posts need to be included in your post strategy. This gives you content to share with your community to stay engaged and consistent. It's content that creates the Know, Like, and Trust factor. Use a calendar to know what holidays your audience will enjoy and want to celebrate with you.

Video! Is preferred by social networks. Why? Because it retains social media users and keeps them active on the platform. This is powerful and something you can start leveraging in your business. There's no need to be intimidated with creating video content. You can cycle through a variety of video content including promotions, engaging, funny, stories, even LIVE video. Remember - if you don't have your own video content, you can always share popular video content!

You have to include promotions in your social media strategy. These types are critical to your social media success. You can promote free offers, guides, reports, coupons, discounts, sales, trainings, even new products. These WORK because 80% of the time - you are posting content to engage your community. The reason you post so much value - is so they stick around. When you include promotions in your social media strategy- you capitalize on an audience that's familiar with you and your brand. They are FAR more likely to engage with a promotion from you after they've become familiar with you. Rotate through your promotions and keep them consistent. Like links - you won't see a ton of "vanity" engagement like likes and comments because the action people will be taking is clicking your link...hopefully becoming a lead that you'll be able to nurture and sell your products or services.
