Objective – Initiated in response to the need to provide clean water to communities during the drought experienced last year.
The M-PESA - Grundfos Water Project was launched in June 2009 in partnership with K-REP Bank, Grundfos Ltd, Action Aid, RedCross and Davis & Shirtliff.
How does it work ?– The partners work with communities to sink boreholes and install pumps programmed with an M-PESA application which allows people to pay for and draw water at their convenience.
To date there are pumps in operation
in:• Katitika • Thika• Kalukuni• Musingini• Kola• Ruiru
On average about 9,000cubic meters of water is drawn per borehole per day
