Dearest Key club, This month is always our busiest. We have had so many good experiences together al-ready. I am so glad that all of the freshman enjoy Key Club as much as I do. ♥ Honestly, I have looked forward to this month because of four reasons. Breast Cancer Awareness month/ Walk , My birthday , RTC and especially the Alzheimer's walk. As you all know by now my grandpa had dementia and now its Alzheimers. Not only has it been hard on my family and has torn us apart on some issues involving how we are going to take care of him but, this has been really hard on me. I am glad everyone in Key Club has been there for me as much as they have and I am so glad I met so many wonderful people that I now call some of them my best friends. ♥ I think all of you can make a difference. How? Well you all already have. RTC we won the D28W spirit stick. NORTHWEST YOU KNOWWW!!!! We all prayed and almost cried, that drum-roll got us on our toes and then WE WON. ♥

Girls Scouts
Well, this is Angelica Butler, Katherine Mendoza, and I. We all went to the Girl Scout Birthday Bash Event and had a blast! In the beginning, we were one of the first Key Club Volunteers –from NW- to be there and we walked around a bit, to see what was there. We also got these green shirts that distinguished vol-unteers, from the rest of the crowd. There were a lot of different vendors; blood donating, baseball, mini- zoo, fire department, and a lot of other fun things, for children! We were assigned to the Blood Donation vendor and it wasn’t really hard. All we had to do was pass out some fliers and have 15-20 people donate blood. After that, we just walked around; got some free cookies, helped out at some other vendors, ate some more food. We stayed till the very end, also. There was this planetarium that we got to inside. It had, basically, all of the planets and the worker told us what we were looking at, and the different locations of the stars, etc. It was really upsetting to go home, because it was just so much to fun to be with everyone and just have a good time

Food and Wine Fest
By far, I have never been in a position requiring as much work that was needed during the Wine and Food Festival. Although the beginning was slow, the amount of work gradually began to pour over the volunteers. The simple tasks at hand were not the problem of the day; the problem lied within the amount of work assigned to each volunteer. Our leading coordi-nators were the ones to be the most appreciated having that our coordina-tors ran through the area of Red Rock Casino to the point of exhaustion upon their feet. It is significant of us to note the stress and pressure our coordinators were under in that it was not expected of them to be put into such powerful positions. However, despite the assigned positions Paula, Marcus, and Krysta had been put into, they did a tremendous job running the event. Without the help of all the volunteers that arrived for the Wine and Food Festival, the success of the event would not have been reached. To see our group of volunteers working together with cooperation and pa-tience is the ideal image of what a true Key Club comprises of. Given the work and time invested into this service project, I must say it was all well worth it. The project depended upon the help of volunteers in areas such as signing in vendors, setting up the event, welcoming guests all in which would provide a high reputation for our key club. As volunteers, we are to deliver the assistance needed within a community; we look towards the aspects of a service project that do not comprise of what benefits us, but benefits the people.
I went to the Wine and Food Festival, last month, in September. Most of the volunteers got a yellow shirt! It was to distinguish us, from the rest of the crowd. A good handful of people took the first shift, yet there wasn’t much to do. It wasn’t very busy; we just had to help people place their equipment down inside this little area, to hold, until it was time to actually set up. They also provided us with free lunch –whoop whoop! Up until around 3-4 P.M, it got really busy! There were a lot of Key Clubbers running around and trying to help as much people as they can. It was really hard, trying to find something to do, because a lot of the work that they handed to us was really easy and simple. Some people, left at midnight, others left earlier; like me, for instance. I know that, as soon as everything settled down, every-one had a blast! People were trying food; chocolate, su-shi, even water! Overall, everything was so fun, even if I didn’t get to stay for the food. Jazmine Jaden Balboa

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk was a really great experience for me for
two reasons: one, my mom had her first round of chemotherapy to cure her breast
cancer two days before and she walked the entire 3.4 miles without stopping, and
two, because so many members from our club showed up to support a great cause.
The environment was really positive and uplifting. Seeing thousands of people
coming together in support of something that affects so many lives was a beautiful
thing. This event really hit home for me because my mom was diagnosed with
breast cancer earlier this year and is currently going through chemotherapy to cure
it. She and the rest of my family were really excited to see everyone from our Key
Club at the walk.

Cine fest was an amazing experience that i'm so glad I got to experience. I saw some AMAZ-ING independent films and met some great directors/actors. I also met lots of key clubbers from other schools. We got to get some great work experience working with people in the industry and got fed VERY well. We critiqued films, welcomed guests, and escort-
ed directors/guests to the main ballroom. We had a lot of different jobs and got to meet a lot of interesting people. All the while being in one of the most beautiful hotels in Las Vegas. It was a great day!

The Cinefest didn’t seem like a big event at first, but it was very exciting get-ting to talk to the independent film makers. They were so proud of their work, and it made me proud to be there to escort oth-ers to watch their own crea-tions. The event was really orga-nized and diverse. I met so many people from other schools, and I got to watch different films that people worked so hard on. Some of my highlights from this event
were getting to work with hardworking Key Club members who I once went to school with, many years ago. Also, dressing up and guiding groups to the film rooms made me feel so pro-fessional. Another exciting part about the whole event was that the volunteers got to watch any film they wished for FREE. For an all day pass was $40, but we got to view everything for no amount of money. Another highlight of the event was the FOOD. We got some snacks on our break, but lunch was the best. We had loads of chicken wings, celery, carrots, fries, and co slaw. Overall, it was really fascinating to see non-mainstream films. It inspired me to keep doing what I do best, considering I am in the Video Productions Program. We did a lot of walk-ing back and forth, but when it came to our break time, all the key clubbers had a great time being together. The whole event was difficult at first, but we all pulled through and at the end of the day, we made memories and had a blast.

Haunted Harvest To start off, Regional Training Conference or RTC was an amaz-ing experience. Seeing all those people from different schools representing their key club was a sight to see. The spirit that everyone had was inspiring as well. RTC also held workshops explaining many topics of key club and the Kiwanis foundation. Key club has this motto that we use, “Caring – our way of life.” When we live by this motto, it can really change the way you see things. Caring can come in a lot of ways, service, purified love, and unwavering attention. Moving on to another highlight of RTC, the spirit rally! Cheering and representing our schools in the district was amazing and loud. The spirit rally was a competition to see who deserved the final prize, the spirit stick. The school who won the region 5 spirit stick was Liberty High school. The school who won District 28 west was Northwest CTA. The school who won District 28 South was Rancho High school. In the end, RTC was a blast. I recommend all key clubbers to go. It’s an amazing experience and a memory you will never forget.
