the citizens promptly responded. Transport and

mobility sector came out as a leaderwith nearly

30%ofthecitizensvotinginfavourofarevamp.In

order to address the problem in aid of �inding a

solutiontherewereseriesofjointmeetingswhich

took p lace among var ious depar tments ,

stakeholdersintheformofNGOs,PMPML,MSRTC,

PrivateBusOperators,variousexpertsandleaders

ofTransportandmobility.

Discussions to bring about a mass change in

Mobility Sector held among all stakeholders

resulted in efforts to improve the functioning of

Public Transport, create an infrastructure which

willbemaintenance&hasslefreeandtocreatea

modeshifttoNMTrelatedissuessoastoprovide

universalaccessibilityforall.

Keeping this as a preamble to this project, Pune

MunicipalCorporationbegandevelopingaholistic

approach toward the Transport and Mobility

problem in order to bring in the core-aspect of

sustainable development. A series of initiatives

weretakeninPolicyformation,Appcreation,Street

designingandsuchotherrelatedprojects.

Every City is unique and has its own set of

challenges. Pune studied various documents

availableonStreetdesigningandcameupwithits

ownUSDGforPuneCity.Streetsareforallusers;not

onlyforvehiclesbutalsoforpedestrians,forpublic

transportation and for cyclists. Streets are also

Streets are identi�ied as Mobility Corridors that

carry about 80%of vehicles all the time, Feeder

streets- streets feeding traf�ic onto the Mobility

corridors and Neighbourhood streets which is

labelledasallotheradjacentstreets.

The above identi�ication helps in knowing the

streetsandprovidingtraf�icoptions.Forexample,

Mobilitycorridorsareproposedtobedevelopedas

PublicTransport orientednetworkswhich could

beaBRTS,Metro,Monorailserviceetc.

WalkSmart-APedestrianPolicywasdeveloped

byensuringfocusonthePedestrianuseofstreet

networks.TheaimofthePolicyistodevelopPune

into a pedestrian friendly city with dignity for

pedestriansandcarefortheirsafetyandwell-being

through the implementation of appropriate

measures.

Pune city now has a high-quality pedestrian

infrastructure with equitable allocation of road

space. Footpaths are continuous and not broken

downorinazigzagfashion.

country's �irst Bio-CNG (bio-methane) Bus. Tata

Motorshasdesignedanddevelopedbio-methane

engines (5.7SGI&3.8SGI) for lightandmedium

buses. According to Mr.GirishWagh, Head of

commercialvehiclesbusinessatTataMotorssaid

the use of bio-CNG will contribute in a positive

mannertothesmartcitiestokeepthemcleanandis

agoodoptionforwetgarbagemanagement.

Previously, Tata Motors had pioneered the

introduction of natural gas vehicles (CNG) in the

countryandhasintroducedseveraltechnologiesin

CNG engines related to vehicle performance and

safety including sequential gas inject ion

forUSD805millionandtheexecutorwillgeta24-

monthtimetocompleteit.

The work will include streetscape design,

beauti�ication, landscaping, intersection redesign

and infrastructure upgrade in the town centre

district.The length of Janpath is 5.5km from

VaniVihar Square to SishuBhavan Square. The

projectalsoincludesa0.3-km-longfour-laneroad

from Master Canteen to Bhubaneswar railway

station.The public works department and the

railwayshaveinitiatedtheproject.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has also

announcedplanstoinvestUSD3billioninthecity's

traf�ic and transport system over the next four

smart road in ABD areas of Jaipur.The awarded

projects include thedevelopmentof smart city in

Jaipur for16kmsof areawhichwouldbewhere

AkshOpti�ibre would be deploying optical �ibre

network,mobilehotspots,smartlightingsystems,

surveillancesystem,smartparking,environmental

sensorsetc.

Theprojectcostisdividedintotwoparts--capex,

andoperationandmanagement.While thecapex

part will be decided by December 2018, the
