Slovakia is a beautiful country. It lies in the heart of Europe. Our country has very nice customs
and traditions.

We are students working in the club called Virtual World.

And this is our club of traditions where we meet very often .
Here we were preparing this presentation about our unique customs.

Dožinky – Harvest festival is great and interesting tradition. ( August – October )
People celebrate the end of harvest . The vreath is symbol of this festival. In our area we celebrate Grape
harvest because Vráble is a vineyard area.

December is the best month in the year because Christmas are coming.
Firstly on 6th December St. Mikuláš visits us.
He brings lots of sweets to all good children.

Christmas is the most beautiful holiday in the year.
All Christians celebrate the birth of Jezus.
We do Christmas decoration at home and at school.
Christmas tree is the symbol of Christmas.

Christmas Eve – Štedrý deň is celebrated on 24 December.
Christmas dinner is typical for this day.
In Slovakia the soup is different in each region: sauerkraut, lentil or fish.
Vegetable salad and fried fish is typical as the main dish.

Apples, honey, wafers,nuts, garlic belongs to our traditions.
Families sit to the Christmas table and they pray together. They sing Carol – Holly Night.
Cutting apples is very popular habit. It says whether the family will be healthy.
Honey, wafers and garlic are the symbols of health too.

We get presents. Members of family give presents to each other.
But little children believe "Ježiško" brings presents and put them under Christmas tree. They enjoy this nice time very much.
At midnight people use to go to the church.

Nativity celebration is tradition, which is holding on the second Christmas holiday in our churches.

We made this celebration at school each year before Christmas holiday. We call it Nativity festival.
Our schoolmates from 4th class prepare it every year. It is always beautiful experience.

Singing Carols is a very nice habit at Christmas time.
Young people go from house to house with three kings – Melichar, Gašpar and Baltazár.
They sing carols and wish divine blessing.

Fašiangy - Carnival time is a period before fasting season. It starts in January after Three Kings.
It´s time for carnivals and fancy-dress balls
Doughnuts and sweets called „fánky“ are typical for this time.
We have Carnival at school every year .

Farewell with winter was associated with burning of Morena. People also celebrated the start of spring this way.
