Global Fiesta by Stella Gibbs The Global Fiesta took on a different look this year as Support Links
did not have a stall. There were many reasons for this but as it
happened we were all able to take part in some of the workshops
which were very enjoyable, informative and fun.
Some have asked - can we have a stall next year? It will be up to
you. We have time to think how we would like to run a stall. We
can make things and sell them or we can have an information stall
to let the public know what we are about and how much fun we
have. It is also a good opportunity to talk to prospective new tutors
or English students.
Let‟s plan ahead so we can really have something we are proud of.
If you are interested in joining us, come and have a chat!

Three Questions: Advice from a friend Mitch Ditkoff
www.ideachampion.com
Imagine yourself as a sword in a stone. It's stuck and won't come out.
You pull to the left. You pull to the right. You pull to the left, again.
Back and forth, back and forth you go between the extremes:
good and bad, up and down, black and white, rich and poor, this and that.
With each movement between the extremes, the sword gets looser and looser
until it gets loose enough for you to pull from the stone.
That's how it works some times -- all this going back and forth,
until we're finally free!

SORRY DAY 2010 „Stolen Generation‟
Ipswich Library - Wed 26 May at 6pm Film Synopsis: In this film , three Aboriginal people share their stories of
removal. Bobby Randall a singer; songwriter Cleonie Quayle, a mother of four; and Daisy Howards, a Kimberley woman, separated from her half-sister May 50 years ago. The stories are combined with interviews with two well-known Australian historians, Marcia Langton and Henry Reynolds who described the racist assumptions behind these policies. Removing children was a deliberate government policy and the end aimed for was the eventual disappearance of Aborigines as a people. Archival footage adds strik-ing illustration throughout the film. The film ends with the recent debate in Australia - how the previous Prime Minister John Howard, while recognizing past wrongs and expressing his ‟regret‟, refused to make an official apology and say ‟sorry‟ on behalf of the Australian nation. www.ipswich.qld.gov.au Ph (07) 3810 6655

Inner Peace ...this is so true!
If you can start the day without caffeine,
If you can always be cheerful, ignoring aches and pains,
If you can resist complaining and boring people with your troubles,
If you can eat the same food every day and be grateful for it,
If you can understand when your loved ones are too busy to give you any time
If you can take criticism and blame with-out resentment,
If you can conquer tension without medi-cal help,
If you can relax without liquor,
If you can sleep without the aid of drugs,
Then You Are Probably The Family Dog!!!

Quotes by Thomas Berry www.earth-community.org
“Without the soaring birds, without the great
forests, the free-flowing streams, the sight of the
clouds by day, and the stars by night, we become
impoverished in all that makes us human.”
“Well, the first thing to recognize in human-earth
relationships is the Earth is primary and humans are
derivative. Humans are for the perfection of the Earth
rather than the Earth is here for the perfection of
humans.”
“We might summarize our present human situation by
the simple statement: that in the 20th century, the
glory of the human has become the desolation of the
Earth and now the desolation of the Earth is
becoming the destiny of the human.”

Diary from Footsteps for Peace, by Cassie Mc Mahon
“I am writing from Iluka, a place I feel is
very special. This evening I was touched by
the music, the singing and story telling shared
by the people of Iluka. The choices we make
at each moment will affect the choices we will
need to make in the future. Sometimes these
choices are not the easiest, but in the long
term will create an abundance of positivity.
We have been blessed by people who by
chance find us and are touched by our efforts.
People have spontaneously assisted us when
we are lost, run out of energy, offered us a
caffeine fix ahhh..., as well as spread the word.
This walk is bigger than just the five of
us, bigger than the five walks happening
globally. This walk is mega and for that I am
grateful.”

Symptoms of Inner Peace June.Norman, Wed 21 Apr 2010 http://brisbane.foe.org.au/content/
symptoms-inner-peace
These symptoms of inner peace were provided to Footprints for Peace walkers by Pam and Peter Clarke in Kempsey. We thought this wisdom would be useful to share...
Be on the lookout for symptoms of
inner peace. The hearts of a great
many have already been exposed
and it is possible that people every-
where could come down with it in
epidemic proportions.
This could pose a serious threat to
what has, up to now, been a fairly
stable condition of conflict and
violence in our world.
Here are some signs and symptoms
of inner peace:
- a tendency to act and think
spontaneously, not on fears based on
past experiences
- an unmistakable ability to enjoy
each moment
- a loss of interest in judging other
people
- a loss of interest in judging self
- a loss of interest in interpreting the
actions of others
- a loss of the ability to worry.
(This is a very serious symptom.)
- frequent, overwhelming episodes of
appreciation
- contented feelings of connected-
ness with others and with nature
- frequent attacks of smiling and
increased susceptibility to the love
extended by others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.
Greg Mortenson has
worked to promote peace
through education by
establishing 130 schools,
most of them for girls, in
remote regions of Pakistan
and Afghanistan.
His books ‘Three Cups of
Tea’ & ‘Stone into Schools’
trace the story of his
struggles and achievements.
‘Stone into Schools’ brings
to life the heroic efforts of
the CAI’s fixers on the
ground and renegade men
who were inspired by the
importance of girl’s
education, and the triumphs
of the young women who are
now graduating from the
Schools.

“ Mortenson‟s story serves as a
reminder of the power of a good idea
and the strength inherent in one
person‟s passionate determination
to persevere against enormous
obstacles.” Marilyn Gardner,

HEART OF THE CITY by Marilyn Scott
My Mum loved the inner city she loved the community spirit she thought the suburbs were isolated and boring who could deny it? She was the daughter of an Irish Gypsy the seventh of seven children Her life was cut short prematurely she could no longer endure the suffering A woman of that generation many pains they carried They didn’t have the option then to walk away from the agony She was a person of great spirit colourful and so loving With an extra sense that could pierce the skin you couldn’t hide anything from her Dreadfully lacking in self confidence as were many then She thought she wasn’t talented or smart My god! Such a tragedy She had so many gifts to choose from many bestowed from her ancestors
I sensed in her an unhappiness that was with her wherever she walked She got on and did her best at the expense of herself It hasn’t been easy but I’ve managed to take those extra steps she couldn’t manage All of this expression Is from the both of us Mum I finally did it for us three cheers, bottoms up and thanks for all the encouragement
