ourselves of many essential aspects in the Islamic teachings.ourselves of many essential aspects in the Islamic teachings.

erroneous attitudes, or overlook the essentials in our erroneous attitudes, or overlook the essentials in our ‘ibadat ‘ibadat because because

of their being obsessed with that which are secondary. of their being obsessed with that which are secondary.

Being a true Being a true MUSLIM MUSLIM and a and a MU’MEENMU’MEEN (Believer), is not a seasonal (Believer), is not a seasonal

affair. It is not a game to occasionally indulged in some month and affair. It is not a game to occasionally indulged in some month and

upon our meagre efforts? And no matter how much we may have done upon our meagre efforts? And no matter how much we may have done

this - “this - “attestation to the Oneness of Allahattestation to the Oneness of Allah”; negating all forms of ”; negating all forms of

“O Allah! I seek refuge with You from committing SHIRK i.e. associating

others with You, knowingly, and I seek Your forgiveness from the

committing of the sins which I do not know.”

“I believe in Allah Most Esteemed, and I reject idol worship

and evil, and I holdfast to the firmest handhold that will

never be shaken, for Allah Hears and Knows all things.”

“pillar of the “pillar of the DEENDEEN”, where judgement of all of our good deeds ”, where judgement of all of our good deeds

Apart from the obligatory Apart from the obligatory SWOLAHSWOLAH, we are also enjoined additional , we are also enjoined additional

NAWAAAFILNAWAAAFIL prayers , because Allah guides us with a command to seek prayers , because Allah guides us with a command to seek

His help through His help through SWOBR’ SWOBR’ (patient perseverance) and (patient perseverance) and SWOLAHSWOLAH..

FASTING IN RAMADHANFASTING IN RAMADHAN

Then comes Then comes FASTINGFASTING in Ramadhan, a special and unique program of in Ramadhan, a special and unique program of

re-orientating the life of Submission, and strengthening them with re-orientating the life of Submission, and strengthening them with

Faith (Faith (IIMANIIMAN) and steadfastness in obedience () and steadfastness in obedience (ISTIQOMAHISTIQOMAH), with self-), with self-

discipline and overcoming desires, towards attaining the station of discipline and overcoming desires, towards attaining the station of

TAQWATAQWA..

RAMADHANRAMADHAN was selected with its many Blessings, bestowals and was selected with its many Blessings, bestowals and

bounties placed within it. The observance of bounties placed within it. The observance of FASTINGFASTING itself is a boon of itself is a boon of

great benefit, as means for us to traverse towards Allah’s Mercy and great benefit, as means for us to traverse towards Allah’s Mercy and

Forgiveness, - the door leading towards Allah’s Paradise.Forgiveness, - the door leading towards Allah’s Paradise.

TAUBAH - REPENTANCETAUBAH - REPENTANCE

If we are honest and truthful, we know and must admit that we have If we are honest and truthful, we know and must admit that we have

much failings and shortcomings. Our sins throughout the year are much failings and shortcomings. Our sins throughout the year are

immense, while our good deeds are insignificant and very few indeed.immense, while our good deeds are insignificant and very few indeed.

Yet Islam teaches us never to despair – but to come to Allah and repent, Yet Islam teaches us never to despair – but to come to Allah and repent,

seeking the Mercy and Forgiveness of Allah. This is especially so in this seeking the Mercy and Forgiveness of Allah. This is especially so in this

blessed month of Ramadhan. blessed month of Ramadhan.

We must always make true and sincere repentance (We must always make true and sincere repentance (TAUBAHTAUBAH); to make ); to make

reparation for wrongdoings as best as we can; and seek the forgiveness reparation for wrongdoings as best as we can; and seek the forgiveness

of those whom we have wronged and especially towards Allah SWT.of those whom we have wronged and especially towards Allah SWT.



TAUBAH - REPENTANCETAUBAH - REPENTANCE



““O you who have attained to faith! Turn unto Allah in sincere O you who have attained to faith! Turn unto Allah in sincere

repentance: it may well be that your Sustainer will efface from repentance: it may well be that your Sustainer will efface from

We must note the manner in which the subject of LAILA-TU-QADR

was introduced in this Surah came only after Allah s.w.t. reminds us

to behold AL-QUR’AN that was being revealed.

It is AL-QUR’AN that was emphasised, as the proof of NUBUWWAT

of our Prophet Muhammad s.a.a.w; the book and the standing

miracle (MU’JIZAT) that is preserved and still available for every one

without having to search for it. The Book of Guidance for Muslims.

Whereas the reference to it being revealed in LAILA-TUL-QADR only

added to its already esteemed position. Rather than speculating in

seeking for the night, Muslim must not be distracted from what is

already available (AL-QUR’AN) - regarding our obligation to recite,

studied, reflected and its teachings heeded and applied.


Lest we forget, the month of Ramadhan indeed was the month in

which the Qur’an was sent down.

““Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the

at one time from the ‘Preserved Tablet’ (at one time from the ‘Preserved Tablet’ (Al-Lawh Al-MahfuzAl-Lawh Al-Mahfuz) to the ) to the

Ramadhan it may occur each year, our not knowing it should motivate Ramadhan it may occur each year, our not knowing it should motivate

““Verily, the month of Ramadan has come to you all. It is Verily, the month of Ramadan has come to you all. It is
