Equipment of the Month: Bomb Calorimeter

The article presented below is intended to provide an overview of the basic principle involved in measuring the calorific

value of solid or liquid fuel and other combustible materials by Bomb Calorimeter.

Despite of the state (solid or liquid) in which a fuel exists, they are traded on the basis of their calorific value. These fuels are

broadly used for industrial purpose.

A Bomb Calorimeter is a standard instrument used to determine the Gross Calorific Value of hydrocarbons. The heat energy

measured by bomb calorimeter can be expressed in calories (cal), British thermal units (Btu) or Joules (J).

The SLE-Benchmark Bomb Calorimeter is an Automatic Microprocessor controlled with touch screen. Isoperibol Bomb

Calorimeter is used for rapid determination of Gross Calorific Value of solid, food or liquid fuels. It consists of temperature-

controlled water jacket with a built-in water circulating system with chiller. The design is compact with minimum space

requirement. The model has automatic water handing system. Special auto stop and auto draining joints are equipped to

change the water in the system.
