Industrial Drones for Energy
SKYCATCH IS FOCUSED ON HELPING COMPANIES SCALE THE USE OF AUTONOMOUS FLYING ROBOTS FOR REMOTE SURVEILLANCE AND LOGISTICS.
Our Vision
Making the use of drones • easy for operators with no prior experience • scalable to cover large remote areas • suitable for harsh environments • low maintenance & high availability • fully accessible via mobile interfaces & web
Our Focus
The Problem
• Sites are becoming more remote and dangerous, the rise of the ROC means that remote surveillance is becoming mission critical
• Fixed cameras in a world of remote pipelines, wind/solar farms, transmission lines, and plants are becoming prohibitively expensive
• Making these feeds accessible 24/7 or providing mobile access to security video feeds = difficult and expensive
• Most drones are toys with limited range and are hard to pilot
Our Solution
Ruggedized drones flying missions autonomously and gathering data
Base stations for 24/7 power
Instant data acquisition & analysis
Three main components:
- The Drone and Payload
- The Software
- The Base Station
The System
The Drone (Flying Robot)
• Quadcopters • Stable autonomous flight • Range of up to 25 miles / 30 kilometres • Ruggedized to IP65 • Internet connected • Smartphone CPUs • 15 satellite GPS lock • Barometric and sonar sensors • Lightweight - Size of a frying pan
Payload
Sensor payload can be up to 1 kilo including: • Smart cameras (video and stills) • LiDAR • Multispectral and thermal sensors for non-visual
bands • Physical payloads (e.g., packages)
The Software
• Secure logins • Image and video view • Waypoint entry via Google
Earth interface • Accessible on web, Android,
and iPhone
Uses in Mining
• Mobile Surveillance across site for mobile machinery, operations, blasting, geology & security
• Critical hazard response – shot firing, injury, fire • Structure management and inspection • Remote operations management • Surveying
Uses in Oil & Gas
• Monitor remote pipelines for leaks and vandalism • Evaluate operations on large oil fields • Inspect “hard to reach” places such as offshore rigs more
easily • Monitor staff and contractors
Uses in Solar
• Check temperature of panels to ensure optimum throughput
• Monitor status of build outs • Check on environmental impact during build out • Conduct automated health and safety checks
Uses in Power
• Check conditions of lines to prevent fire and safety issues • Inspect issues live without risking worker safety • Monitor wildlife along lines
Uses in Wind Energy
• Keep birds away from turbines • Check turbine status without stopping production • Check on environmental impact during build out • Ad hoc checks over water and land
The Base Station
• Rugged (IP65) • Solar or DC power • Wind sensors • Up to 12 batteries • Automated battery swap
(24/7) • Protects the drone when not in
use
Safety and Regulation
Safety in designing every part of our system.
• Our inflight autopilot software is thoroughly tested
• The base station and drone maintain connection; drone can
be called back if any issues or auto land.
• Global failsafes including parachutes
Regulations
• FAA, CASA and others working on new regulations.
• Currently must fly lower than 122 metres, 400 feet.
We have the team
OUR BACKGROUNDS HARVARD/MIT, TESLA, JPL, GOOGLE, FACEBOOK AND THE US NAVY
