Clearvision overview

Clearvision Lighting has a 15-year pedigree in ergonomic and environmental lighting. We have been at the leading edge of the industry in adopting new technology and design techniques to improve workplaces and reduce energy consumption.

Our appreciation of daylight has been apparent from the beginning. One of our first innovations in ergonomics was Virtual Daylight® in 1997, which has since been copied by many other companies.

We focus on lens technologies (some patented) that are central to our most successful products. We find that they’re an effective means of optimising design between efficiency, glare control and useful light distribution.

Clearvision is a project lighting company with a focus on customer applications for our products. We therefore provide a full technical support service–including Dialux (plug-in available), AutoCAD, emergency test and control systems.

Please contact our technical department for design and product related questions and sales for project quotations. All queries can be addressed to [email protected] or on 01252 344011.

The Sky2

Sky2 is a large area modular light fitting, combining an attractive and

ergonomic design with easy installation and maintenance.

Large area light fittings have become popular with architects and

designers for their crisp clean looks and low glare ambient light.

However, the size required is often larger than possible with rigid

sheet materials so stretched fabrics or membranes are employed.

The luminaire interior is designed to minimise lamp visibility, whilst the

high light transmitting membrane (>70%) is stretched across a hinged

opening frame to allow easy access to the lamps.

Sky2 is ideal for any space where a high light level is required with low

glare. Applications have been wide – offices, training rooms, meeting

rooms, video-conferencing, call centres, public space, control rooms,

clinical treatment areas, shops and even a chapel.

The Skyπ

The round Skyπ Is a recent development of the Sky2 requiring a new

approach for the diffuser membrane. The square Sky2 has a framed

door, which is one of the major features of the product. The ability to

relamp has been one of the main problems with larger membrane

luminaires, specialist labour was often required on site to release the

membrane during maintenance or relamping.

With the Skyπ the membrane is installed on a frame that is invisibly

retained via a spring mechanism. This allows simple access to the

luminaire without compromising its look with visible fixings.

Because the appearance of this type of product is key, it is necessary

to use different length lamps. There are 10 lamps (2x24W, 4x54W and

4x39W) used in the luminaire to keep the luminous appearance of the

membrane uniform.

Page 8: Sky Brochure

The Sky2

The Sky2 is sometimes used in large spaces or to define feature

areas, where its colour change facility can create dramatic effect

and mood shift. In some circumstances this form of luminaire is

used to create very high light levels at much lower glare than using

conventional luminaires.

Nesting

Nesting is another feature of the Sky2 that can be used to create

high quality workspace, where either dynamic colour change

(Circada) can replicate daylight, or where high levels of light are

desired. In this situation, surface mounted versions are joined

and fixed within a plasterboard ceiling.

Options

DimmableDimming is available as an option on any Sky2 unit with the standard protocols available – switch dimming, 1-10V analogue, DSI digital and DALI digital. We are able to provide bespoke wiring configurations to optimise the energy efficiency or scene capacity using different hues of white light (see FX Circada below). The dimming controls themselves are supplied as a separate item to the fittings and are not included unless specifically requested.

FX Circada This is a specific form of dimming control to mimic the shift in daylight colour across the day. There is research suggesting that, especially in high northern latitudes, there are well-being benefits to be gained in the workplace from the effects of dynamic or biological lighting that will assist in entraining our circadian rhythms. The Circada version has 8 lamps of two different white colours, from cool to warm, which create a changing colour and intensity across the day. Separate time controls can be supplied that can be programmed to create an artificial day that is particular to a location and orientation.

FX (RGB) The FX is a 12 lamp version with four red, green and blue lamps, which can combine to create a wide variety of colours. In theory, and with suitable DALI control, most colours are possible including white. However RGB is less effective at white than primary colours and is therefore best used where strong colour applications are the main requirement. The level of output is much higher than with LED colour change, with more capacity to saturate a space with colour.

FXW (RGBW) The FXW is a development on from the FX (RGB), for applications where white is the main colour requirement. The fitting has 10 lamps, with 4 in white and 2 each of red, green and blue. The FXW allows white to be the predominant colour at low energy levels and for more subtle tinted colours than it is easy to produce with the FX. However, the FXW has less colour power than the FX and so is more suited to pastel colours and tints than for fully saturated colour changing.

Page 13: Sky Brochure

Mounting

SuspendedThe suspended version is the same as the surface with the addition of a wire suspension kit. In past projects the Sky2 has been mounted up to 5m below a soffit and cross suspended to brace against wind induced movement. The Sky2 can have up to 12 lamps and in some circumstances this allows for a high light output sufficient to compare with metal halide, but with much less glare. The Sky2 has been used high in call centres, retail space and even some factory areas, where low glare and high power were the main factors.

RecessedThe dimensions of the recessed version are slightly smaller than that of the surface so that it will fit into an exposed T-grid ceiling as well as plasterboard. In other respects the products are very similar. It should be remembered that if this fitting is to be lifted and tilted into position within the ceiling there will need to be sufficient unobstructed void depth (around 500mm) to perform this operation. The recessed version is suited to arrays of fittings, which are particularly effective in suitably supported grid ceilings.

SurfaceThe surface product is manufactured from a steel body; polyester powder coated in white (RAL 9010) together with the stretched membrane within a door made from steel and aluminium. The surface lumianire is usually fixed through the back of the body into the soffit or an appropriate surface.

Whilst all Sky2 models can be supplied with either DSI, Analogue 1-10V, DALI or switch dimming electronics, to be compatible with most proprietary control systems, they can also be supplied pre-packaged with one of two dedicated controls systems built-in. Both Clearvision’s control systems are supplied with high frequency electronic control gear featuring intelligent electrode preheat-ing. This enables rapid dynamic operations to be performed without adversely affecting lamp life.

S-LINCBased on the Osram DALI EASY II ® system, the S-linc control system provides simple user control via an infrared remote handset and/or wall mounted key pad. Additionally a 24 hour timer switch is installed for Circada systems. Unlike a conventional DALI system, no addressing is required, the system is simply plugged together and colour scenes/sequences programmed.

Between 1 and 127 ‘Slave’ luminaires are connected to a ‘Master luminaire, containing the control hardware. The Master luminaire can be located anywhere within the installation, ideally near a control point, and is supplied pre-programmed with up to 16 colour scenes and 4 colour changing sequences.

The Master luminaire may also be connected to a single retractive switch (eg. MK K4900), providing additional override on/off and up/down dimming control of the whole system. Simple programming changes can be carried out at a later stage via the keypad or infrared remote (user lockout prevents accidental reconfiguration) if required. Further alterations are performed via a laptop/desktop PC connected to the systems USB input.

• Controls Housed within a ‘Master’ Luminaire•16 Colour Scenes, 4 Colour Sequences• Infrared Handset and Keypad control• 24 Hour Timer (Circada only)• No Commissioning Required• Up to 128 Sky2 Luminaires Controllable* *(dependent on model)

S-LINC PLUSThe S-linc plus uses a conventional DALI control protocol and a more advanced 5.7 inch colour touch screen user interface, allowing between 1 and 32* Sky2 luminaires to be controlled by one touch panel. The panel incorporates concealed LED backlighting with an RGB colour mixing facility.

A total of 16 colour scenes and 99 colour changing sequences are available for selection or time control via an onboard real-time clock/calendar.

Manual dimming and switching control is also possible. Additional wall switches, touch pads and radio control handsets may also be connected to the system to provide further, basic, control points if required. The S-linc is supplied in a default state requiring the system to be commissioned and luminaires addressed on-site prior to operation.

Emergency

EmergencyEmergency versions of Clearvision luminaires come in several forms. The standard configuration is for a 3 hour maintained operation. Both Nickel Cadmium (NiCad) and Nickel Metal Hydrite (NiMH) batteries are supplied depending on lamp compatibility. Some fixed output formats are available with combined inverter/ballasts, but dimmable emergency products are always supplied with separate ballasts and inverters.

Both self-testing inverters and intelligent emergency systems should be supplied in consultation with our technical department. Central test inverters are available where remote diagnostics and reporting systems require.

DimmingSky products are available with four main dimming protocols. Switch dimming is the most cost-effective dimming option for manual dimming of single rooms. DSI digital (Tridonic) offers digital functions for more advanced requirements. Analogue (1-10V) dimming is supplied to offer compatibility with many of the popular control systems. The DALI protocol is provided for high functionality systems, where reporting, flexibility (soft wiring) and individual addressing are project requirements.

If you have specific requirements for dimming and/or emergency luminaires, please check with our technical department to ensure they will be available with your chosen lamp format.
