Skuas are seabirds in the family S t e r c o r a r i i d a e .The name skua comes from Faroese skúgvur IPA: [ˈskˈkvˈˈ] (Stercorari-us skua). Jaeger is derived from the German word Jäger, meaning hunter.Skuas nest on the ground in temperate and Arctic regions and are

l o n g -d i s t a n c e m i g r a n t s .

Auks are seabirds of the family Alcidae in the order Charadriiformes. They are superficially similar to pen-guins due to their black-and-white colours, their upright posture and some of their habits. Nevertheless they are not closely related to the penguins, but rather are an example of

m o d e r a t e c o n v e r g e n t e v o l u t i o n .
