Metropolitan France is situated on the western edge of Europe, and thus lies within the northern temperate zone.From southwest to northeast, France shares borders with Spain, Andorra, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg, and Belgium. France also borders Suriname to its west and Brazil to its east and south, by way of the overseas region of French Guiana, which is considered an integral part of the republic.

Marseille is the capital of PACA.It’s also the oldest french town with an enormous harbour.

The city was founded by the Greeks arrived with 600 Fokai BC  Μασσαλία (Massalia)

The climat in Marseille is typically meditaranien with mild, humid winters and warm to hot, mostly dry summers.

How to get to Marseille?

International Marseille-Provence airport is located 25 km from the city center.The airport can be reached by bus or train

Public transport

The public transport in Marseille consists of:• 2 trolley lines, • 2 metro lines and • 79 bus routes.A single ticket costs 1,50 €.

Cycling is a convenient way to get around the town.There are a 130 stations around the city with aprox. 1000 bikes for hire, open from 6 o’clock till midnight, seven days a week.The rental cost is one euro for the first half hour, then it grows 1 euro per hour.

The white facades of houses, charming squares, narrow streets – Marseille is now one of the most cosmopolitan cities in France.

Marseille is an important cultural center. City is full of monuments and traces of a rich past can be encountered in all of its parts.

The 19th-century Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, built by the architect Esperandieu, is an enormous Romano-Byzantine basilica in the hills to the south of the Old Port. The terrace offers spectacular panoramic views of Marseille and its surroundings.

Fort Saint-Jean was built in the 12th century to defend the entrance to the port.

Romano-Byzantine Basilica of Sainte-Marie-Majeure, was built in the secondhalf of the nineteenth.

Castle d’If is a fortification in the centre of the Marseille harbour.It was essentialy a prison, for about 400 years. Alexandre Dumas made it famous by setting the story of Count of Monte Cristo in this castle. It’s a site worth seeing.

Le Palais de la Bourse was erected in 1860. Currently the building is Chamber of industry and commerce.

Marseille is also famous of Calanques. Calanque is deeply indented in the limestone rocks, inaccessible valleys with steep walls on the Mediterranean coast, very often do not have any directions.

Cusine

The provincial cuisine is characterized by using vegetables, olives, oil, herbs, garlic and fish.

Bouillabaisse is the best known fish soup.To cook using different species of saltwater fish, garlic, tomatoes, olive oil, pepper and saffron. After cooking, the soup the xylene is to be through a sieve, and cooked in her fish, crawfish and crabs shall be indicated on a separate platter.For the soup must be given in Marseille breads called marette.

La ratatouille - a delicious vegetable stew native of Provence, which also works well as a main dish as well as a food additive. This dish is based on vegetable ingredients, mainly aubergines, courgettes, peppers, onions and tomatoes.

Aïoli - is a traditional dish based on cod and boiled vegetables covered in sauce with olive oil and garlic.

ShoppingThe French love shopping.The town is full of shops and shopping centers:- Centre Valentine;- Le Centre Commercial Grand Litoral;- Le centre le Plan de Campagne

The main shopping streets in the vicinity of the Canebière street -rue de Rome, rue Saint Ferreol, rue Paradis and of course the Centre Bourse.
