La temporada de verano se acerca, trayendo temperaturas más altas. Sin embargo, queremos recordarles a nuestros feligreses y amigos que se recuerden que deben vestirse con modestia y de manera apropiada para la misa. Es preferible que las muje-

res usen camisas con mangas (debe eliminar los vestidos sin espalda o de corte bajo, las correas de espagueti, las camisetas sin mangas, o cualquier cosa que muestre su diafragma), los vestidos o las faldas deben ser por lo me-nos a la altura de la rodilla; Si usa pantalones, asegúrese de que no tengan agujeros. Además, alentamos a nuestros feligreses masculinos a usar camisas de polo o camisas con botones (debes evitar usar ropa con el logo de los equipos deportivos) y vestir pantalones o caquis (evita usar pan-talones deportivos y jeans con agu-jeros).

Nawiedzenie Najświętszej Maryi Panny 31 maja

Święto Nawiedzenia wywodzi się z reli-gijności chrześcijańskiego Wschodu. Uroczystość tę wprowadził do zakonu franciszkańskiego św. Bonawentura w roku 1263. Kiedy zaś powstała wielka schizma na Zachodzie, wtedy święto to rozszerzył na cały Kościół papież Boni-facy IX w roku 1389, aby uprosić za przyczyną Maryi jedność w Kościele

Chrystusowym. Sobór w Bazylei (1441) to święto za-twierdził. Święto Nawiedzenia obchodzimy 31 maja, tj. między uroczystościami Zwiastowania Pańskiego i narodzenia św. Jana Chrzciciela. W ten sposób wspominamy przede wszystkim spotkanie Mesjasza ze swoim poprzednikiem - Janem Chrzcicielem. Jest to także spotkanie dwóch matek. Dokładny opis Nawiedzenia zostawił nam św. Łukasz w swojej Ewangelii (Łk 1, 39-56). Według tra-

dycji miało ono miejsce w Ain Karim, około 7 km na zachód od Jerozolimy, gdzie dwa kościoły upamiętniają dwa wydarzenia - radosne spotkanie matek (kościół na-wiedzenia św. Elżbiety, położony na zboczu wzgórza za miastem) i narodzenie Jana Chrzciciela (kościół położo-ny w samym mieście). Maryja prawdopodobnie odby-wała całą drogę z Nazaretu do Ain Karim - czy jak chcą niektórzy bibliści może nawet do Hebronu - pieszo. Być może przyłączyła się do jakiejś pielgrzymki, idącej do Jerozolimy. Trudno bowiem przypuścić, aby szła sama w tak długą drogę, która mogła wynosić ok. 150 kilome-trów. Pragnęła podzielić się ze swoją krewną wiadomo-ścią o Zwiastowaniu, jednocześnie gratulując jej tak długo oczekiwanego potomstwa. Maryja po przybyciu dowiaduje się ze zdziwieniem, że Elżbieta już wszystko wie - tak dalece, że nawet zwraca się do niej słowami anioła: "Błogosławiona jesteś mię-dzy niewiastami". Elżbieta wyraża równocześnie uzna-nie dla Maryi, że zawierzyła słowom posłańca Bożego. Zadziwiająca jest pokora Maryi. Przychodzi z pomocą do swojej starszej krewnej, gdy ta będzie rodzić syna. Ale i Elżbieta zdobywa się na wielki akt pokory, kiedy Matkę Chrystusa wita słowami: "A skądże mi to, że Matka mojego Pana przychodzi do mnie?" Elżbieta stwierdza równocześnie, że na dźwięk słowa Maryi poruszyło się w łonie jej dziecię. Pisarze kościel-ni są przekonani, że był to akt powitania Chrystusa przez św. Jana i że w tym właśnie momencie św. Jan został uwolniony od grzechu pierworodnego i napełnio-ny Duchem Świętym. Poruszenie św. Jana często zesta-wia się z tańcem radości króla Dawida, idącego przed Arką. Słowa Elżbiety przywołujemy zawsze, ilekroć odma-wiamy Pozdrowienie Anielskie. Krewna Maryi powtó-rzyła część pozdrowienia Gabriela: "Błogosławiona je-steś między niewiastami", wyraźnie czyniąc aluzję, że za sprawą Ducha Świętego została we wszystko wta-jemniczona. Potem zaraz dodała własne słowa: "i błogo-sławiony jest owoc Twojego łona". Wydarzenie to roz-ważamy jako jedną z radosnych tajemnic różańca. Istnieją zakony żeńskie, które za główną patronkę obra-ły sobie Matkę Bożą w tej tajemnicy, co więcej, od tej tajemnicy otrzymały nawet swoją nazwę. Chodzi głów-nie o zakon wizytek, czyli sióstr nawiedzenia. Założył je w roku 1610 - wspólnie ze św. Joanną de Chantal - św. Franciszek Salezy.

The summer season is approaching, bringing higher temperatures. Howev-er, we want to remind our parishioners and friends to please to remember to dress modestly, and appropriately for Mass. It is preferred for women to

wear tops with sleeves (you should eliminate backless or low-cut dresses, spaghetti straps, tank tops, or anything that shows your midriff), dresses or skirts should be at least at knee length; if wearing pants, make sure they do not have holes. Also, we encourage our male parishioners to wear polo shirts or button-down shirts (you should avoid wearing clothes with sport teams logos) and dress pants or khakis (avoid wearing sweatpants and jeans with holes).

This portion of John's Gospel comes near the end of the first of four chapters that make up Jesus' long fare-well discourse at the Last Supper. This section of chapter 14 actually sums up the themes of the opening of the dis-course: the Christian's life is not shaped by Jesus' absence but by God's abiding presence; God's presence over-comes anxiety about God's absence; and the present holds in it the seeds of a fresh future shaped by love, not fear. These verses also contain a glimpse of some of the other themes of the farewell discourse: Jesus' rela-tionship with the Father and the disciples' relationship to Jesus connect the disciples to the Father as well. Jesus promises to send an Advocate or intercessor who will remind the disciples of everything that Jesus taught them and bring them peace. Jesus is preparing his disciples in advance for his absence so that they will continue to believe in him and not feel all alone after his return to the Father. After the initial excitement of his Easter appearances, Jesus will remain with his followers in a very different way throughout the centuries. As our celebration of the Easter season is coming to an end, the liturgy reminds us that Jesus remains with us through the Holy Spirit, who teaches us everything we need to know, reminds us of all that Jesus taught, and brings us peace.

Fathers’ Day will be celebrated on June 16th. A very beautiful way to give thanks and appreciate all that your father, grandfather, Godfather, etc. means to you is to remember them in prayer. Please take home a “Fathers’ Day” Mass envelope and list the names of

those you wish to remember. The envelopes can be found at all entrances of the church. All Masses on the weekend of June 19th will be for the intention of all Fathers.
