The levels of SPM concentration are well within the limit at all sampling station during the period from April-14 to Sept-14. The emission of NOx and CO is being maintained below the prescribed level. The air quality monitoring is done at workers quarter; officer's colony and New Sayal incline. The results of monitoring report are annexed. The emission level is below the norms.

(ii) No burning of coal at the project site as well as near the project should be allowed manufacturing of soft coke for house hold purpose

No burning of coal at the project site as well as near the project is allowed for manufacturing soft coke for house hold purpose.

(iii) The quality of effluent finally discharged into the main water course should confirm to the standards prescribed under GSR 422 (E) dated , the 10th May, 1993

The effluent quality is also within the limit and confirms to the standards prescribed under GSR 422 (E) dated the 19th May, 1993 during the period from April-14 to Sept-14. The results of monitoring report are annexed. The water quality has been monitored at Bansgarha Incline, Nakari river upstream and Nakari river downstream .The effluent unit are under norms.

(iv) All the slopes of external dump should be maintained at a maximum of 28 degrees.

The condition is being complied.

The blanketing of this subsided area using O.B. should be carried out and also the likely subsided area should be brought back to the original land use pattern. The reclamation of subsided area should be completed as provided in the EMP and supplementary note.

Quantity of O.B. dump over Central Saunda – subsided area during December, 98 to March, 99 is 2,48,000/-cum. A total dumping of 6, 00,000 cum has been done during the year, 1997-98 till May, 2003 at total OB dump over subsided area Central Saunda is 26.21 lakhs M3. In the north side of Bhurkunda-Patratu road, the Quarried out area under fire zone has been reclaimed by O.B materials only except small area other surrounding area is under plantation.

(vii) Regular Air and Water quality monitoring should be made in and around the core zone. Recorded data should be furnished to this Ministry in every 3 months

Regular monitoring of Air and Water quality is being made in and around core zone by the CMPDIL, Ranchi. Reports are being furnished to the Ministry and Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board regularly. Quarterly report is being annexed.

(viii A plan for developing the green belt as envisaged by the Project proponent to improve the greenery should be provided. The plantation should include mixed culture with emphasis on local species

Conditions Status

(ix) The drainage pattern envisaged after post mining activities in the environment management plan should strictly be followed.

The drainage of the area has been made in such a way that the water goes to 2 lagoons (ponds) and is being used for recharging the ground water aquifer. These lagoons are also used as water Harvesting pump. The water is also being used by local inhabitants for washing and bathing etc. further action shall be taken after final closure of mine.

Steps taken for improving the environmental quality

Saunda – D Project lies in Barka- Sayal Area of Central Coalfields

Limited. It is located in Patratu Block of Ramgarh District, State

Jharkhand and forms a part of South Karanpura Coalfields. It is

under operation since the year, 1946.

Rainwater harvesting is being done at the project. For this two

numbers of lagoons (ponds) has been developed as settling

ponds. Water is being recharged to ground water aquifer. The

clear water after settling is being used by local inhabitants for

washing and bathing etc.

To improve the greenery, plantation work was undertaken in the

past. In the year, 1990, plantation work was undertaken and 5722

plants survived and in the year, 1995, 23875 saplings were

planted. 110000 nos. of plants in 46 Ha has been planted in 2007
