The research priorities for Bidar district:

Scientific study and characterization of natural resources at cadastral level for analyzing the resource potential and their appropriate conservation.

Deepening the understanding by developing tools for characterization of hydrological dynamics in relation to hydro geological features and impacts of climate variability.

Augmentation of land capabilities through suitable watershed based scientific interventions that contribute for more sustainable improvements in productivity.

Addressing the site specific constraints through research and development interventions through participatory approaches.

Strengthening/capacity building of watershed based community organizations through more realistic participatory bottom-up approach for sustainable development of the district.

Evaluation of soil resources for suitable technologies for soil and water conservation and assessing suitability of crops.

Identification of various constraints affecting crops productivity and planning for addressing constraints to enhance the productivity of crops.

Research priorities for Horticulture component

•Promoting horticulture in the district with horticultural components such as fruit crops (cashew, mango, tamarind, custard apple, etc) through dry land horticultural techniques.

•Vegetable crops (chilly, curry leaf, drumstick) and perennial species may be introduced for utilizing soil moisture from deeper soil horizons apart from conserving soil and rain water through dry land horticultural techniques.

•Mixed dry land orchard systems such as cashew /mango/sapota lime/custard apple have more scope.

•Short duration and intensive horticultural activities such as nurseries, cultivation of short duration vegetables under watershed areas .

•Developing suitable Agri –Horti-Silviculture measures for resource conservation and enhancement of productivity of land.

•Promotion of horticulture based integrated farming systems
