The main character of the site in Dubrovnikcan be described as a undened open space.Right now there is a narrow road leading up tothe plateau which is used as a parking space. The road then continues westwards to anearby chapel. The exposed site ofers a wideview around, not only over the sea but alsoeastwards to the old town of Dubrovnik. Adeterminant characteristic of the site is theimmediate neighbour - the fortress. It standsexposed on the rock giving a clue of what kindof volume the new building cold react to.From the very start we wanted to use theexposed site as our platform. Visible from theold town we wanted to create a counterbalance to the dominating fortress. The programm inside was divided by its functions. Functions of the congress such awardrobe, restrooms, a bar and rooms forutilities are organiced along the east façade, leaving a free space of 18 by 55m. That spaceis a continuation of the outer plateau and hasa “public“ character. People can enter theground oor even if they are not attending thecongress. They dont interfere. There are twoelements in that space. Each of them containsstairs and an elevator giving access to themain function of the congress - the auditoriumand the congress hall. They can be discribedas two seperate volumes which are suspended from the roof structure. They elevate in ahight of 4 m and maintain a gap of 2 m oneither side for proper illumination through skylights which are situated inbetween the bearing reinforced concrete beams. The 18by 55m parcel can be used for breaks or for variousevents outside the congress time, such as exibitions, parties or other gatherings.Furthermore, two oors of oces are situatedas well along the east façade creating the 2ndand 3rd oor. The basement which is orientated to the south inhabits seminar rooms, restrooms and storage.

GRAZ HAS CHANGED. NO MORE GREY, NARROW ALLEYS AND STREETS. NO CARS, NO TRAFFIC JAMS. THE CITY LIFE HAS BEEN ELEVATED. IT IS NOW FLOATING IN A HEIGHT OF 150-300 M. PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SPACES ARE RATIONALIZED INTO MODULS OF 30X30X150 M AND CREATE A GIANT MESH. PEOPLE ARE FREE TO TRAVEL INSIDE THAT MESH. IT PROVIDES ENOUGH SPACE FOR PROPER DAYLIGHT BUT IS STILL DENSE ENOUGH FOR SHORT CONNECTIONS.

DESIGN IN ARCHITECTURE2008 | 2009 UT Brno
CD CASE2010 TU Graz
CD case is inspired by scandinavian design and its sence for simplicity, purity, utility and availability. As well using natural materials like paper / wood combined with felt makes the product very haptic. Felt stripe is not only decorative element, it helps to connect both case parts together and eases to pull out the CD disc.
