    27 Years of Service

    October 2013

Always ready to enjoy a good party, SICO

celebrated its 27 years of service having a

blast! There was the Jungle River mini-golf

tournament and dinner after at California

Pizza Kitchen. The mini-golf tournament was won by

President Rene who was only too anxious to

have us try this out! Second place tie went to

Susan Lau and Lorraine Fukumae. Marilyn

Lees distinction was the highest score. The

winners won bags of pizelles and President

Rene gave out her home made pickled cu-

cumbers to everyone. The course proved to

be challenging, utterly goofy with the zigzags

and hard to read greens! Great fun!

    The Old Putts start out.

    THE MEMBERSHIP TEA

    at Wahiawa Botanical Garden

The serenity of the Wahiawa Botanical Garden was the perfect stage for the Membership Tea. Through the glass walls,

the backdrop was tall trees, lush green ferns, and many different kinds of plants. Best of all on this humid rainy day was

    air conditioning.

The intent of The Tea was to introduce interested persons to Soroptimist with the hope that they would join SI Central

Oahu. The intent was fulfilled. SICO has a new member and a potential new member. Tammie Cullen, guest of LeonaSoto, was so impressed that she will be joining SICO and the delegation to the District Meeting in Maui where shell

have the honor of being inducted by Founder Region Governor Dona. Actually, Tammie was a guest at last years Taste

of Hollywood. Rene Tokunagas guest, Cathy Nakahara , who has attended and even helped at several fundraisers is

still contemplating her decision to join SICO.

The Sincerity of Friendship became evident as we were treated

to unexpected guests. Noticing the Soroptimist banner, a couple

attempted to enter our tea room. President Rene greeted them

to find that Dr. Maren Wolk is a Soroptimist from Germany. She

and her husband were visiting the Garden. They were warmly

welcomed and invited to join us and all the good food.

For the formal part of the program, former presidents were as-

signed a variety of topics designed to inform and encourage members and new members.

Guest Speaker DVI Director Lorene Hopkins slide presentation explained the Soroptimist

    organization. Lyn Lurbe presented her thoughts on Fulfillment; Jackie Pactol on Friendship;

Leona Soto on Diversity and Networking; Jane Murakami on Leadership and Convenience. President Rene discussed

SICOs programs, agenda and a few personal reflections. As serious as these topics may sound, there was a lot of joking

and laughter. President Rene introduced herself as the leader of this crazy club. By the end of the day, Director Lorene

dubbed us Central Oahu Ward, as in crazy ward! SICO always travels well supplied with food and this was no differ-

ent. There were even door prizes!

Many thanks to Ellen Kazama and Jane Murakami for a well-balanced program and for all the little details that added to

    having a great fulfilled day.
